Indian Air Force | What Makes It 4th Largest Air Force ?
Lca Tejas is an Indian, single engine, delta wing, light multirole fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force. The Tejas currently has three production models - Tejas Mark 1, Mark 1A and trainer variant. The IAF currently placed an order for 40 Tejas Mark 1 and 73 Tejas Mark 1A and 10 trainer aircraft. The IAF plans to procure 324 aircraft in all variants, including the Tejas Mark 2 currently being developed by the HAL. The Tejas Mark 2 is expected to be ready for series production by 2026.
Indian Airforce Sukhoi Su 30MKI is a twinjet multirole air superiority fighter developed by Russia's Sukhoi and built under licence by India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Development of the variant started after India signed a deal with Russia in 2000 to manufacture 140 Su-30 fighter jets. The first Russian-made Su-30MKI variant was accepted into the Indian Air Force in 2002, while the 1st Su-30MKI assembled in India entered service with the IAF in 2004.[5] The IAF has nearly 260 Su-30MKIs in inventory as of January 2020. The Su-30MKI is expected to form the backbone of the Indian Air Force's fighter fleet to 2030 and beyond.
Indian Air Force Rafale jet is the 4.5 gen fighter jet, making it among the deadliest in the world and was procured after a lengthy evaluation by Indian Air Force under MMRCA, outperforming SAAB Gripen, MiG 35, Typhoon, F-16 among others.
1st squadron of the Rafale jets is stationed at Ambala airbase due to its strategic location in North India and proxitimity to Pakistan, while the second one will be based at Hasimara base in West Bengal, due to its proximity to China.
MiG 21 Bison is an upgraded version of the MiG-21bis which had been first inducted into service in 1976. The Mikoyan and Gurevich (MiG) 21, code-named 'Fishbed', has been the longest-serving aircraft in the Indian Air Force’s current fleet. Despite the fact that modern avionics and armaments were added to the MiG-21 in the Bison upgrade (2001 onward), the airframe is still decades old and all the MIG 21 will be phased out by 2025 from Indian Air Force.
Jaguar fighter aircraft has been a dominant asset in Indian Air Force's (IAF) fleet for decades. IAF Jaguar played an active role in the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan, dropping both unguided and laser-guided bombs. The SEPECAT Jaguar is an Anglo-French jet attack aircraft originally used by the British Royal Air Force and the French Air Force in the close air support and nuclear strike role
MiG 29 UPG aircraft is the upgraded version of the MiG-29 operated by the Indian Air Force. After the Dassault Rafale, the MiG-29 is the only aircraft in the IAF with an inbuilt EW suite. The DRDO’s Defence Avionics Research Establishment lab, Israeli Elisra, and Italian Electronica are the manufacturers of the D-29 EW suite for the MiG 29UPG.

In 2035 iaf most probably would look like this- Mirrage/specat jaguar(maybe both or maybe none), Mig 29k, Tejas mk1a, super su 30mki, gripen/f-15ex(if mrfa programme really happens), dassault rafale, tejas mk2, TEDBF, AMCA I really hope india may buy a bomber aircraft too(might be b1 lancer), also there are expectations of india buying su-57 because russia have upgraded them very highly.

When usa will induct 6th gen fighter india may induct amca. Su 57 is definitely a failure but some recent upgrades have made it a Lil better than earlier and there are some scope for more upgrades in the upcoming future alongside su 75

LOL India has SU30 MKIs, they are still out of engine, even china who bought Russian engines or made copies of those engines also have failures, their J20 is still out of engine, after 25 flight hours the plane has broken down on the ground! even Malaysia which also has SU30 MKM, 18 SU30, 14 or 15 broken down! why countries like India or others buy Western planes, because they are more reliable and better equipped, a Rafale has a double stealth, a passive, like an F35 but less stealth (0.06 M2 in radar equivalence against 0.005 M2 for an F35, knowing that passive stealth only works against high frequency radars, Ka, K, X, S or C bands, and again, only the X frequency is really jammed at long range, but only if the enemy plane is heading towards the radar, if it changes direction, it is no longer 100%, and active stealth, the Rafale receives the enemy radar wave, it is analyzed and the Rafale returns the enemy radar wave out of phase, a way of jamming the radar, so the enemy does not know that there is a Rafale in the corner, in addition, the Rafale has infrared stealth, from the front, these air inlets are not aligned with the reactors, unlike a Eurofighter or the SU!!!

@@prskishore We have lots of other jets to be decommissioned. But Su30MKI is not one of them. It is a 4.5 gen aircraft and it is newer & better than Rafale. Su27's (I rechecked)'s first flight was 1977, and F15's was 1972. Su30 came in 1997 and Su30MKI in 2002. Rafale came in 1989. Still everyone would agree, battle-tested F15 platform's F15EX is the best. Su30MKI is IAF's "backbone" and is getting new AESA to BrahMos, whatever we have. We have 33 sq when we have 44 sanctioned. Su30MKI are not one of them. Many more are going to retire soon and we are going to get new jets for those missing squadrons. ORCA, AMCA, Tejas Mk1A shall be there. Maybe we get Su57MKI in future. Western jets are not super-manoeuvrable like the Russian 3D-thrust-vectoring enable ones. These have higher capacity.

@@nadushnudush I am a huge fan of Russian fighters.. but we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket. If Russia sinks our sukhoi’s will be grounded… because we only assemble them. We get all the kits including the engines from Russia. It’s a very big risk. While we are catching up on indigeneous fighter development in parallel we should have two options always…. We should not solely rely on Russian stuff. If you see even in the past we maintained mirage fleet for the same reason and not completely relied on mig29, mig27,mig23

Su27 Flanker is known as one of the deadliest fighter jets in NATO list so chill. But yeah india needs ro get like 114 Rafale jets or imo if possible should get like mix of Rafale and F35 to level up 5th Gen Game with China and edge with Pakistan

US offers us F21 but we must go for Rafale under MRFA 114 Deal. We must go for only few F21 if need be. I personally prefer cheaper JAS 39 Gripen n upcoming future 4.5 gen non stralth delta wing F36 Kingsnake of USAF

Honestly speaking, both Indians and Russians will benefit from joint ventures in civil and military aircraft production, leading to lower costs for both in the long run. I have 0% trust on the French company (during critical times). Western nations are known to pull the plug when you need them the most. France is the epitome of this phenomenon. The passenger aircraft are ridiculously expensive and are increasing the entry bar for aircraft operators. Dornier (a licensed airplane) that is made in India entered commercial space only in 2022 (that too with govt. subsidy). NAL Saras Mk2 (indigenous replacement for Dornier) is yet to take off. This is small planes segment. There is no current progress on mid-size planes (aka Single Aisle segment. Eg. Airbus A320 segment). By ourselves, it will take way longer to catch up (even after reverse engineering) and lose valuable market space to the likes of China who are going to sweep in at Airbus A320 segment once their approval is done. We are losing a critical business opportunity both domestically and internationally. The government needs to divert some love to this sector.
