1. Never leave anything valuable in car that's visible from outside. 2. Always keep passport, credit cards and cash with you or in hotel safe. Only keep what you need on the day. 3. Never keep all credit cards and cash in one place. 4. Always backup your data on cloud so in case you lose your laptop, you can still access your data. Stay safe

Senior people usually are not that alert of their surroundings. If they were in NY , I would have bring them home , take care of them and drop them at Airport . NY have lot of community they could have help . But I pray for them and hopefully they get through this and get home safe .

Hard to understand those travelled all around world, who keep Credit/Debit Cards in luggage? Cards & cash are always in wallet or in bags. Also why they roaming around in cities with luggage in car? Hotels also offer lockers for valuables.

Houston mein crime bahut ha and chori bahut ha. Police advises not to leave valuables in car.

Its so foolish, my friends also do this stupidity and even argue with me. Rental vehicle with Suitcases parked in isolated areas. Its a thief magnet. Why the hell they cant carry both their laptops, in one bag and also keep all the documents in the one bag. This has happened to my uncle in India, to my friend in Houston. Also to two cars were broken in in Houston downtown Holiday Inn three parking places next to my car. My colleague in San Diego who was also my neighbor faced same problem. We had parked our cars outside the apartment complex because of resurfacing of road. I had asked him to take his empty laptop bag home but he laughed at my suggestionsuggestion saying je brought his car for $1500. Any thief will leave money and go if he comes to my khatara car. Well next day he called someone broke in thinking the laptop bag contained laptop, couldnt find any then stole the cassete player😂😂 the non functional cassette player which were already phased out 10 years before (the theft) . Short story my friend had to buy a $250 quater glass for his $1500 Car and pay $150 to get it installed. 😂😂

That's sad. I hope they find their stuff and it is a good warning to others to be extra careful, particularly in countries where crime is rampant. Unfortunately, my experience with police in the West is that they are not bothered with such stuff... maybe only murder, rape, or armed robbery but not street crime which may be a contributing reason to why it happens rather frequently. Glad that some people helped the family. But I am also a bit skeptical of what they say in the interview as it looks exaggerated. It is an SUV (possibly a RAV 4) so to claim the bags were not visible is unlikely as the boot is not covered so they would be completely visible. Secondly, if they were in the restaurant eating then they must have their wallets and handbag(s) with them. I am not sure why the lady is saying they had to block their cards. Thirdly, the story that they had borrowed a mobile phone seems odd unless they left their wallets and mobile phones and only went in with a $100 bill.
