This movie reduced me to tears. When my my mum and stepdad were told that I had Dyslexia it of course broke their hearts when I was diagnosed with it from 5 years old. I never let it got to me and I progressed and took each day as it came along. Today I am an author of two poetry books and I thank my parents and teachers for helping me from school to university. Helping others has made me a more confident person as I was very nervous to talk about this to anyone.

I had a good friend in college who was dyslexic. We never had any classes together but he was an actor in many plays and we were in a few together. Many years later he wrote me an email. He was about 35. The email looked like it had been written by a kindergartener. I could barely read jt. All the misspelled words. I had a hard time believing it was from my college friend. Then I remembered that he had told me he was dyslexic. I thought about all the plays he'd been in and how difficult it must have been for him to do things like learn lines and even graduate. I found a new respect for my friend that day.

Even I am also Dyslexic, I only knew to read, write and draw on a paper when I was going to finish LKG. I also used to fail in exams but now I am doing bit better in studies from even struggling to score 45% now to score 70% (An Average) I know it is not much. I neither had teachers like Ram in this movie nor anyone understood my problem until when I was 10th grade. I still remember that I had a strict tutor who called me names, scolded me, insulted me by calling me "Fraud" etc whenever I wasn't able to do math problems. I used to hate going to school not because I don't like learning but I don't wanted get scolded again. But I had the self confidence of proving them all wrong who humiltated me infront of whole class, insulted me, some classmates who made fun of me for getting low grades and people who doubted me of being successful in future and pursing my aim career. These all things I just use as a fuel. Even my parents especially my mother is not comfortable talking about Dyslexia since I have it. One day I will also help these students with same condition as me like Ram did in this movie. This shows that movie with good motive is always capable of making an impact. Even though I watched this movie for the first time years ago whenever I remember about this movie it always gives me hope for better tomorrow.

this touched a nerve for me, seeing because of my Autism I've always been misunderstood and seen as nothing but a disabled kid. this has basically destroyed my life, having been stuck in a negative spiral for more then 10 years, I've lost count after ten years. so seeing a boy being understood for who he is and what he can do, touched me deeply, because my help always came and still comes too late. the only reason I'm able to express this now, is because I recently found medicine that is the solution to a problem of mine that has kept me in this negative spiral for so many years. (the worst part is that people online have shown me that they'd rather be jerks than open themselves up to others. so even if I opened up now, I won't be surprised when people try to belittle me further. but that is the sad reality we all live in, people would rather act like jerks and childish, than try to act like that teacher did.)

A kid who loves art in an environment where enjoying anime, sci-fi movies just led to people making fun of you. This even led to a wealthy uncle who wanted to fund my university studies to give up on me when he heard that I wanted to study fine art (animation was and is still quite expensive here). This explains why I wish to quit my country and go to a friendlier environment. Being at home is fun but I feel incomplete up till this day because I feel like I am not really allowed to be.

I've watched this movie so many times and yet I never cried. This recap had made me truly realize how Eeshan must've felt. Compassion and empathy is what people going to problem need. I relate to this so much because I'm still recovering with depression. Although, I've come out to my parents about this, they brushed the matter aside and blamed it on laziness. Parents please do understand that depression is not laziness. If your child comes out to you, pleading for help, donot push it aside and blame it on something else. Help your child from the overwhelming sadness, not blame it to something else and not acknowledge it.

This movie was way ahead of its time and I don’t think there has been a movie since in Bollywood which shows the difficulties of special needs children in India. The education system in India is still not up to scratch to facilitate special needs kids amongst everyone. Also, parents fail to recognise that their kid might have some psychological issues or just not possess the capability to successfully meet their needs of unrealistic expectations. The movie perfectly catches that aspect of a common Indian student as well, which leads to depression, self harm and suicidal behaviour. I am lucky enough to have parents who understood my limits and never forced me with the weight of unrealistic expectations and accepted me for who I am. But I know so many of my friends who had parents who weren’t as accepting and set unrealistic goals which led them to be depressed and even have a feeling of worthlessness about themselves just because they couldn’t meet their parents expectations. Being depressed is still widely seen as an “excuse” within the Indian household and is taken for granted.

I don't know how many parents actually applied this in their life, even if a single parent has changed himself for the sake of his child, then this movie is successful. The creativity, acting, and emotional impact had me down to the floor tearing up. It's rare to find anything that explores the problem in modern education with maturity. With something that was made years ago and still remembered. It should hold as a classic example of how to produce an emotional movie.

Taare Zameen Par is my all-time favorite movie. I even have an old DVD of this movie. It used to be a tradition at our home to watch this movie at the start of the holidays every year in my childhood. It kinda hit home for me at that time, because of some similarities between Ishaan and the child me. Even though I'm not dyslexic, I did have a rough childhood, I was a bit good at drawing, and I used to have separation anxiety when being away from my mom or my parents in general and always more than the other kids around. Too bad, many years ago, the DVD player broke and we had to stop. I still can never forget this movie.

The english subbed one is called 'like stars on Earth' and it is BEAUTIFUL. It is so rare to see movies about any kind of disability that shows the REALITY of what its actually like to be disabled. While I personally would have preferred it to be more about actual mental health, learning disabilities in Indian culture is a big, big deal. So it makes sense that the movie would focus on learning disabilities over mental health. After all, you can only conquer stigmas one step at a time. the movie is a 10/10 for me.

I feel like what this movie is trying to tell us is that people, especially children, with special needs (or even disabilities) aren't bad, but they simply need some extra help + more time to pick up, and want to have fun learning. I felt so bad for Ishaan when I watched this video because ik what it feels like to struggle with basic tasks and to be afraid of being considered "lazy" 😭😭

There's no dull student, only bad teachers. I'm a teacher too and I've witnessed students with great potentials being neglected. In order to teach you must understand defects that threaten students, work on them, allow students to be themselves, play with them ( but briefly and strictly). Once you meet a teacher who Sees teaching as a passion rather than a job, believe success is guaranteed for the students.🙏🙏. To whoever is reading this, may you impact the world positively 🙏🙏🙏.

I remember watching this as a child, but never knew until a little later what it actually was about, my parents had been so weird about it though :( they used to try and scare me about trying to send me away to a boarding school, totally not the point of the movie! The neglect towards learning disability, the things they might just go through is shown so well in the movie, watching this break down of the scenes makes me understand it so much better, especially since I'm trying to learn more about learming disabilities and disorders in general, thank you.

@@edenontheorbit9778 In our culture, people often look down upon mental disabilities and label everything under the umbrella term of being retarded. There's a lot that people need to be taught about mental health and disabilities so that we as a community can help these people prosper rather than ostracize them. And don't get me started about physical abuse against children done under the guise of "doing it out of love".

I used to think about suicide from the age of 8. Asian families refuse to understand anyone. They just want their kids to fit into the society no matter what. As someone with Autism this movie really touched me. I got lucky and had all the help and support I needed but I have meet others who weren’t so lucky. The torture children who are different face when they are being punished and called lazy cannot be understated and unfortunately some of them do end up taking their lives. I’m not gonna lie, I loathed both the parents and the teachers for most of the movie. Especially the father who was utterly convinced that his son was the problem and that he himself had done nothing wrong. I felt like he cared more about his pride then anything else.
