Indian joint family life - My in-laws are visiting us in Kerala for the first time

This is the first time my in-laws are visiting us in Kerala, or for Mommy the first time being anywhere in Kerala. Lucky us, we got to start their stay by celebrating Daddy's 50 something birthday and I baked a surprise cake for him too! Maybe this is why they immediately fell in love with our house and the green jungle around us. :) Though in the first few weeks we didn't take them out to explore the nearby town of Payyanur with us because of quarantine. But it was so much fun in the house nevertheless. We kept ourselves busy with cleaning the house after a month in North India, playing games and doing yoga. Such proper quality family time!

Johanna you are so open hearted and full of love. Your in laws are lucky to have you as their bahu. Many daughters in law would have problems in this situation. But the kind of changes you had to embrace is astounding. You are an amazingly loving woman. Your in laws seem to be simple, good-hearted people. It is a big stride for them as well to accept you as their daughter into their hearts. You being from a different culture and not speaking their language. Hats off !

How cute when daddy touches Vinod’s beard when he says we have Malayali features. Mom looks like a Malayali. Not sure if everyone feels the same. But I do. I was almost into tears when daddy fed the cake to everyone. I miss my family. :( BTW BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DADDY.

Yes it is, but to my understanding having the inlaws present and helping through these times is a very common custom in India. And of course Covid times and pregnancy put limitations on when we were able to go and pick Mommy and Daddy up to bring to Kerala 😊🥰

Wow I absolutely loved this video. Especially seeing how your in laws have interacted so well and have been enjoying quality family time during quarantine playing cards, etc. It was very inspirational to see how you have brought them out of their shell and they interact with you so much. Loved the yoga and was surprised to see all of you doing it together. I am sure they are going to really miss you a lot when they eventually return to Haryana. I am not sure how you are coping with the heat and from where do you get so much of inspiration. Would love to meet you one day when I visit India 🤗🙏

Coping with the heat is definitely my biggest challenge during my last trimester now! I don't think my way of dealing with it is very graceful though :D I take several showers a day, try to eat lots of watermelon and cucumber, avoid hot food and drinks... Oh and I stopped any more intense workouts, and am only doing more peaceful yoga and meditation now :) And I try to rest a lot, which also helps me in creative brain work and finding inspiration! Maybe I should make videos about these two topics! After all, summer is fast approaching and I think we all might have a difficult time in being inspired during covid! We'll miss Mommy and Daddy a lot too, when they go back home :) But luckily Vinod and I enjoy our alone time a lot also, and my Mom hopefully gets to come for a long visit shortly after them! And Mommy and Daddy have Sangeeta back home in Jaipur, and obviously now they are missing her

@@JohannaNorth thanks for the reply - glad to know you are trying everything to keep cool and yes I love watermelon in the summer very refreshing. It’s good to have the help when baby arrives - I had help when I had my first baby but for my second it was very difficult with no help but my husband and I coped very well and it just made us stronger as a person and we coped. Now when I look back I wonder how I did it- I even went back to work after 6 months and my husband took time off and looked after my daughter till she was 10 months. Take care and looking forward to the receiving the good news.🙏

Seeing you all do yoga together was so sweet😘would also love to be friends with your sweet mother in-law:D I still can’t get over that Vinod did not tell his parents about you for two years🙄 I am just amaze with your editing skills and your music selection is just marvelous. I was also so happy that everyone wanted to join me in my prenatal yoga sessions! First I thought that omg will they get bored with the easy poses and slow pace, but apparently those suit all our current skill levels :D Haha, weeell Vinod is Vinod. I can kinda get his reasons these days, even though I would've still preferred to handle it differently lol :D But all's well that ends well! Actually starting the editing on How I met my in-laws video today! :) Some easy editing work for a change :D Oh yes, I've been thinking about getting a portable fan in the kitchen! It's not very comfortable even for mommy in the current temperatures. And anyways, would be good to have a fan that can cool us down for a while even during the regular power cuts :D I'll film the making of the cake next time I make it, promise! :)

I can totally understand your feelings about missing friends and family during these crazy times! We also went well over a year without seeing Vinod's family, and it was especially tough at the beginning of my pregnancy when I just wanted to have family around me :( And I'm obviously missing my own family in Finland too, who I wish could be here for the pregnancy/delivery. My mom might be able to come in June at the earliest to see her first grandchild. My sister maybe in July. And not to mention my uncles, cousins, all of my family who have never even met Vinod because our travel plans keep getting cancelled for unfortunate events :( So I totally get you! If you sometimes need a break, please do take a break and prioritise your mental wellbeing! I wouldn't want you to feel bad because of my videos. But I hope sometimes you're also able to feel like you're a part of our big big family too!

I think vinod’s been feeding the monkeys way too much and now they’re just completely chill at our house, trying to get in through the doors and all 😂 i also stayed alone in Jaipur with my inlaws for a few months before Vinod and I got married ☺️ i filmed a vlog last week about how i met my inlaws, so thats coming out soon too!!

Thank you so much :) I wish Indian bahus didn't get so much criticism though. My in-laws also treat me better than many Indian daughter-in-laws get treated on average. Love and respect go both ways, and that is why I'm able to have such an amazing relationship with Mommy and Daddy
