If we consider railway station as home then home signal decide if the train will enter the home i.e railway station or not. Home signal is controlled by station master. Driver will get the information if he have to enter the railway station or not. before reaching the railway station , there is only 1 or 2 tracks , but when train reaches the railway station then the number of signal increase according to the number of platforms on that particular railway station. To give direction , on which track train will go and finally reaches the platform , for this purpose home signal are used , whose control is given to station master. automatic signals works on the aspect of running train automatically , but home signal are controlled manually.
4 types of lights glow in home signal. Red light means that train have to stop before home signal because no platform is free for that train.
Green light means that train can go on main line with full speed and can cross the railway station i.e main line is free and no train is there.
There are 2 condition for yellow light , first , yellow light with upper white light, white light is called route indicator. route indicator indicates that on which route train have to go and then to reach which platform. route indicator is always glow with yellow light because yellow light means that train speed should be slow. when station master turn on route indicator light from RRI , then route is automatically set i.e from which route train have to go. right white means train when to turn right and same for left white light. there can be more than one white light. driver slow down the train because of turn. when train have to go from main line to platform then only yellow line is turned on which also means that train have to go with slow speed too.
