There are still many thing which an Indian star tortoise can eat but here we have mentioned things we feed.
You can always do some research before feeding them anything not known to avoid poisonous plants.

Not to worry, nobody will be in trouble for handing over a tortoise. However if you get questioned from where did you get the tortoise? You can honestly answer how did you get one but submitting after knowing they’re illegal to keep as pets.

Amazing informative video! There is so little proper info on this species on youtube, so a big thanks! I have got two starts at home and I feed them all types of leafy greens, dried flowers and grasses all your round. I was wondering about the Banana leaves and Elephant ear though. I’ve been told that those are poisonous or is that just the stern and not the leaves? Thanks!

Do difference at all except geographic location. “Exotic” breeders from foreign countries have made this popular that srilankan star tortoises get larger and Indian stars are smaller but in fact we have seen Indian stars getting huge and weighed 4 kilograms plus.

Beans are high in protein and carbs. We should only give them the things which are high in fiber. Start growing your own wheatgrass, you may also include jade plant, sometimes coriander leaves, and don't forget to sprinkle calcium powder made for reptiles on the alternate days, and give then vitamin powder occasionally.

Just the normal garden/ farm soil which doesn’t have chemical fertilisers and pesticides applied on. COCOPEAT is a big no as it hold excess moisture and Indian stars do no do so well in very humid conditions.

Nothing. Please don’t apply any oil or wax on their shell for shine 🙏🙏🙏 These are not show pieces. If your tortoise gets dirty then just clean the shell with normal water and soft toothbrush gently.

They are not so conscious about what they eat , they even eat hairs fallen on the floor sometimes ,that doesn't mean u can give him anything curd ,loli ,halwa , cucumber are bad diet for them , proper diet is bhindi, hay grass ,wheat grass ,hibiscus flowers, hibiscus leafes etc

Yes, that would be sufficient. Switching diet will take some time and patience. Keep feeding mixed diet for few weeks and it’ll start eating leaves gradually.

Tortoises don’t need to be hand fed. Even in captivity natural behaviour and habits are better. Just leave the leaves, grasses in the food tray and let the instincts work.

Just don't go to government animal hospitals where cows horses and other big animals are taken care of otherwise any normal vet will check your tortoise they could be little protective but no vet will take your tortoise away from you

By instinct they should be drinking water naturally but in captivity when they’re fed diet with high water content, tortoises do not drink water additionally.

Wild Indian Star Tortoises which are born in the wild are banned as Pets but Tortoises bred or born in captivity are legal. TLDR: Indian Star Tortoise from the Wild is banned but a Tortoise from a Breeder or most Tortoises available in pet shops are completely Legal

Please keep water dish in their enclosure, they’ll notice and start drinking. If you feed them watery food like cucumbers then they’re less likely to drink water as they are getting dietary hydration.

Antibiotics might take 2-3 days to work if her body is responding to medicines, then try feeding with hands if possible

I don’t have much knowledge about Burmese star tortoises so can’t be sure about it but it can be same more or less like high in fibres and low in nutrition.

@@IndianStarTortoise my burmese tortoises have developed a lower beak in an year or so.The beak has grown quite a lot by now actually almost until its nostrils. Are you aware of the reason behind it. I'm kinda worried now because I mostly fed them vegetables all these years and whenever I try and give them greens they don't seem to like it at all. They look healthy to me so it never occurred to me that I was doing something majorly wrong until their beak started growing longer. So is it something very serious that could prove fatal to my tortoises or do you recommend I follow the diet you mentioned in the video plus few supplements every now and then and my torts will do just fine without any special attention or treating. Thanks! ✌️

You can start feeding your tortoises on rough surface. Sometimes tortoises have to pick food from ground and during that their beak gets trimmed naturally. Overgrown beak is not fatal but it can make it uncomfortable for a tortoise to eat. If it is grown till nostrils then you can get it trimmed by an experienced vet but please do not try it yourself at home.

My tort loves bhindi but recently I started giving him radish greens, fenugreek, coriander leaves with lil slices of lady finger so he could eat other things and it worked. U can try it too :)

My tortoise only loves eating tomoto. Other than tomato he eats cucumber, bottle guard and green beans . Is it healthy or not. We have tried many different techniques but failed everything. He is very clever

My tortoises isn't growing from last 5 years they are only about 4 inches i feed them beans okra cucumber..Pls help

Multiple factors might be causing the stunted growth. Poor or incorrect diet would be one of the reasons. Better if you consult a good vet for them.

Unfortunately I don't have good vet near my area or if there any i fear to show unknown person because of restrictions on this species.i even tried to give them leafs as mentioned but they are not eating..Even ordered online food for them but no effect they only eat what iam giving vegetables..

Changing diet will need patience and persistence. There’s no substitute to consult a vet to understand that is causing the problem and how to address it.

Sprinkle Homeopathy calcium powder on their food and give them atleast 2 times a week. See that they get enough sunlight and never put your tortoise on tiles. They need grass or mud / Sand.
