Hi Chris...Roti Canai is more known as local Malaysia ...'Canai' in Malay means 'roll to flatten' the dough...as you can see when they prepare it on flat surface ....Indian Chennai Roti is more known as chapatti...keep enjoying our local dishes!

Yes, I think canai is how you make it ie the pulling etc. Btw, eat it with both sauces combined. Also should have tried the mee goreng mamak which is fried noodles Indian style and one of the best foods ever, but ask for less or not spicy.

Roti Canai is originally from Southern India. It is known as Parotta, and became known as Prata in Singapore/Malaysia. But Malaysians most often call it Canai. The guy in the video did say that the name originates from the word Chennai, which is a Southern Indian city. Most locals just claim it as a Malaysian dish because why not 😂😂
@GajahMengaumTheBruce
@GajahMengaumTheBruce Жыл бұрын
@@JeevanAnga That city was called Madras for hundred of years and renamed to Chennai only in 1996. I cannot see how roti canai was named after Chennai based on this facts.

Solo is humble & a quiet, smiling guy. He has nice vibes. Chris is extroverted & talkative. Their videos together are the best! I wanted to add some info, when Chris was talking to the Indians in Little India if they’re from India or Malaysia, the Indians in Malaysia are locals as they’ve been in the country for generations. Their ethnicity is Indian but nationality is Malaysia. They’ve differences from Indians in India. But it’s correct that Malaysia has Indians FROM India (tourists/expats)

Chris if you are reading this pls note this mistake that you have in your trip to KL. 1. Jalan Masjid India IS NOT LITTLE INDIA! Its an area parallel to Tuanku Abdul Rahman . Jalan means Road. The area is called Masjid India due to the Indian Muslim mosque there. Thats where you enjoyed the Saturday street food bazar. 2. Little India is located in Brickfields Road. The comunity and businesses here is Hindus Indian. Both area have a mixed community. Hope you note. @ Travelling Solo too if you are reading this. Please please get your info right. Use a local guide once at least

When we say Indian in Malaysia you need to differentiate those like me and most in this video's who's great grand parents were brought here by British in early 1900s before WW1 and 2. . For us Indian means race but we are Malaysian, culturally and food habits slightly different to those from the subcontinent also applies to Singaporean Indian there are 2 types. Also only locals are allowed and licensed to be street vendors if you see Bangladeshi,Indonesian street vendors they are illegally here and not licensed to operate street food stalls.

It seems you are asking the people where they are from. Many of them are of Indian ethnicity. They are born and raised in Malaysia and consider themselves Malaysian but not to be confused with Malay people.

Hi Chris, the Indian donut you had was actually a Vadei (Vadai).. Vada is a category of savoury fried snacks native to South India. Vadas can be described variously as fritters, cutlets, or dumplings. Alternative names for this food include vadai, vade, and bada. Vadas are sometimes stuffed with vegetables and traditionally served with chutneys and sambar

Hi Chris That toasted bread is pretty sweet for my liking. It is not butter but margarine. I like Indian doughnuts which is savoury. They are called vadai. One which is softer with a whole on the middle and another a bit firmer is also called vadai. You can try thosai. Lots of different types. You eat them with chutney.

You haven't try malay rice dishes called nasi campur. It's white rice with side dishes of your choice. You can pick anything you want as much as you can eat from all the veges, proteins of your choice with different types of gravy. Please try, they will blow your mind with all the different dimension of taste. Try it! Nasi campur is pretty common every day dish for the commoners so you will taste the real Malaysians choice for their meals. It's also very common to see anywhere you go but since now is ramadhan, you can go the bazaar ramadhan at kampung baru near chowkit. It's a lot more food pleasee go

Chris, they are Malaysian Indian. 😅 So when you ask them are you from India, of course they will say from Malaysia. But their great-grandparents are probably from India who came during colonial times. Malaysia was once colonised by Great Britain. And generally Malaysians do eat roti canai with a fork and spoon and most dishes even the rice dishes especially if they are going back to work (roti canai is like 24 hours most places) and don't want their hands to smell if there are no soap (sometimes it's super diluted in these establishments). But eating with your hands is most of the time more satisfying.
