I have a Todd's and a Wested both are great jackets in my opinion. Magnoli is based in New Zealand I believe. Kelso is another really high end jacket manufacturer that everyone seems to enjoy. Two other options that are very affordable for beginners are Soldier of Fortune and What Price Glory.

Back in 2007 I purchased one of US Wings' least expensive non-Indy goatskin A-2 jackets and it's still going strong. After nearly fourteen years as my primary spring-summer-fall jacket, it's only now beginning to show the natural signs of wear that are so desirable in a jacket of this type. Assuming their current stock is made to the same standards, you won't have to worry about quality or durability. Obviously if you're going for a screen accuracy, their Indy style is the way to go, but for my own normal street wear, I really like the A-2. It's close enough for casual cosplay but different enough that people won't shout "Hey Indy!" at you when you're not. :)

Wested is probably the best when factoring in cost, quality, and customizability. The leather is decent enough and the cost, especially for custom, can't really be beat. But there can be some QC issues from time to time and you do see the cost cutting measures when you look for them. And, the most important thing IMO, is that there is a real difference in fit between their jackets despite what they might say. The shoulders on the LC affects the fit, especially back length, compared to a Raiders -- the slope of the shoulders tends to make the LC sit higher on the yoke and collar. And the Hero IMO is an exaggeration of the ROTLA jacket quirks, almost like a caricature of the jacket, so is a very hard fit to get right. US Wings has good build quality and good leather, but there are some really nagging design issues with their jackets -- the older models were ok, but their newer ones have this weird blend of Raiders and LC designs like having a Raiders wind flap that's connected to the collar stand but with LC snaps on it; it makes for a really weird design and function issue for a jacket in general. The zipper pull is on the US side as well, which can be awkward, and the strap buckles are usually very cheap (but easily changed). And the biggest, universal issue with US Wings jackets is the back panel tapers A LOT, to the point that it can look silly, especially on larger sizes. But the leather is quality, they're basically in that upper middle class of leather jackets like Schott, but they are heavy. The Cadillac of Indy jackets is Bill Kelso. Expensive, but you get extremely high quality leather and build, though IMO the leather can be a bit heavy even for the striated lamb. Decent customizability as well. But hell if they're not some of the nicest jackets around. The best all-around is Steele and Jones. A very long waiting time, but totally customizable and the guys down in Argentina are great to deal with. A very good price considering the quality is up there with Kelso, and the light horsehide they use is awesome -- light enough for a more screen accurate Indy jacket and not like wearing a straight jacket, but with amazing durability. And if screen accuracy is your thing, they're probably the ones to go with, especially for a LC jacket. All things considered Steele and Jones is probably the best overall given the quality at about $500, it's just they are a long wait.

Magnoli has a "white label" custom version of their jacket that they are only charging $295 for, my understanding is the main difference is foreign/Chinese labor to reduce cost. Free shipping. Just thought I'd mention it. Less inexpensive than a custom made Wested, especially with the exchange rate and shipping, you should give them a shot...One question though, was that Wested in the shrunken lamb? Looked great, especially as far as the arm draping, my guess is that is was shrunken lamb, but of course I have no way to know for sure. Thank you sir....Ok, found your review and confirmed it is shrunken lamb.

@@jeffcorwin6587 I have an entire series on this channel regarding the tiny home build. I post a new video every 2 or 3 weeks, if you want to check them out. This one is built out of a steel shipping container, so it can be moved if it needs to be, although it would be a major pain. Other folks build theirs on wheels, so they are easier to move, but they are generally about half the size of this one. It all depends on what you want out of your tiny home. I did a lot of research before I started building this thing. I would suggest you do the same, and just take a peek at what other people have done with their homes, and then incorporate that into what would work best for you. :)

Hi, I have a Wested Raiders of the lost arc jacket in goat skin. Beautiful leather. The only ting that annoys me is that the back Flaps / movement flaps next to the sleeves height of the shoulders ( or whatever the name is) bulge outward and it looks like wearing a parachute on the back. What are your thoughts on that? Frank
@captainwesticle16543 жыл бұрын
My first thought would be that the jacket is either not tailored correctly for your body type, or perhaps it is the wrong size. Unfortunately, I have no suggestions on how to correct this problem for you. It may have to be tailored. :(

I know the original Raiders jacket had a particular look to it in the way it fir Harrison, with the much wider shoulders and such. How do you recommend I change my actuaLmeasurements, if at all, to acheive the same look with a jacket on myself?
@captainwesticle16545 жыл бұрын
Ask Wested about their "Hero" jacket. This is a special jacket that Wested offers with the same measurements they used for Harrison Ford's jacket. It has broader shoulders and a more tapered waist than their standard jackets. Should be exactly what you are looking for. :)

Your videos are amazing, congratulations!!! I am from Brazil and I am trying to build my first Indy gear. I have bought a jacket from Wested in shrunken lamb but the color doesn´t look right for me. It is not a dark brown. Do you have an idea about which skin should I choose to get a dark brown screen accurate color?
@captainwesticle16544 жыл бұрын
My Wested jacket is also a little lighter than I would like. I didn't change the shade, because it needed to be a consistent color while shooting my Indiana Jones fan film. But it can be done. I wouldn't buy another jacket, just darken the one you have. The jacket will naturally get a little darker over time, but if you want to speed up the process, treat your jacket with some Pecard's Leather Dressing. It may take a few treatments to get the shade you want, but it's good for the leather, and WAY cheaper than buying another jacket. :)

@@captainwesticle1654 Hi, many many thanks for the hints. I have seen people dyeing the jacket with Eco-Flo. Do you think the Pecard Dressing treatment is a better way? Sorry to ask too many questions but since I am in Brazil here we do not have any kind of these stuff. The jacket is very expensive for my budget and I don´t want to screw up everything. Your videos are great I am following all of them and I intend to build my first indy gear. Thank you very much.

@@mauromalito5653 I don't know anything about Eco-Flo. I have heard there are several ways to darken leather. I can't speak for the other methods, all I know is that Pecard's Leather Dressing worked for me, on a Wested shrunken lamb jacket. You can try browsing KZfaq for other methods of darkening leather. I hear coconut oil also works. But it CAN be done. No need to blow a bunch of money on a second jacket.

@@jaxbrix3339 assuming your budget is not an obstacle, you want to get a whip from Trinity Whip Co. In my opinion, they are currently offering the best whips on the market that don't have an enormous wait time. Get an 8 footer. I don’t know if anyone could help me here, but is there anyone who’s bought the wested crusader jacket who could give me some advice? I’m looking at the standard fit ones rather than custom measurements. There are a few options and I’m not sure which material is the screen accurate one, if that’s an option? I’m not usually a leather jacket guy, but is it safe to size down or is it exact? I know leather stretches, but is it too tight as to not be able to zip it? I know the crusade is looser than the raiders so it has more leeway, but I don’t want to push it and regret it.
@captainwesticle16544 жыл бұрын
I haven't bought the Crusader, but I can tell you that measurements will be spot on from Wested. I am a size 44, and I needed the sleeves to be a little shorter, and they delivered a jacket that fit me perfectly. As for the type of leather, they said that the best screen accurate leather for the Raiders was shrunken lamb. Not sure if it's the same for the Crusader, I would ask them.
@bigwingedkuriboh4 жыл бұрын
Captain Westicle Thank you so much! I really appreciate you responding to me.
@gf46704 жыл бұрын
In my experience the sizes are spot on, but there will be a difference in fit between the LC and the Raiders jackets, if you're getting the standard and not the Hero versions. It's small but noticeable, especially with a certain frame. The LC jacket's shoulders slope, that is the angle is sharper from the collar to the sleeve, so it sits differently -- in my case, with wide square shoulders, it makes the jacket sit kind of higher. The larger arm holes on the LC makes the jacket body flare out when you raise your arms. The other major thing to consider is the leather. The lamb and goat being lighter will fit somewhat differently and generally be more forgiving than the heavier cow or horse which can cling because of the weight. If you want my opinion on which skin is best overall, I'd say goat.
@bigwingedkuriboh4 жыл бұрын
gf4670 Thank you very much! I really appreciate all of that! Can I ask why you prefer the goat?
@gf46704 жыл бұрын
@@bigwingedkuriboh It's more durable but still light and it's a good color. Plus goat leather has a different character to it and is naturally somewhat water resistant. As far as screen accuracy for LC off-the-rack, it would probably be the novapelle. The movie jacket was a thicker lambskin, but the novapelle cowhide has that dusty look and takes a cool patina. Wested's standard lamb is fine, though the color is a bit off, and the shrunken lamb is rather fragile IMO and not the right color for either LC or ROTLA. Their new washed lamb is supposed to be a slightly heavier lamb and it's darker than their other lambs (ie, more screen accurate) and I've heard nothing but good things about it.
