Join me on a whispered journey through the sprawling landscapes of the Maurya Empire, where Ashoka's legacy as a visionary ruler unfolded.
Born in 304 BCE, Ashoka, also known as Ashoka the Great, ascended to the throne after a series of ruthless conquests. However, his reign took a profound turn following the devastating Battle of Kalinga in 261 BCE, which left him deeply remorseful for the immense loss of life.
Ashoka's conversion to Buddhism marked a pivotal moment in history. Embracing the principles of non-violence and compassion, he became a patron of Buddhism, promoting its teachings and fostering a culture of tolerance and understanding within his vast empire.
His edicts, inscribed on pillars and rocks across the realm, conveyed messages of moral conduct, religious tolerance, and social welfare. Ashoka's commitment to dharma (righteousness) left an enduring impact on Indian governance and societal values.

From Wikipedia: Ashoka (Sanskrit pronunciation: [ɐˈɕoːkɐ], IAST: Aśoka; c. 304 - 232 BCE), popularly known as Ashoka the Great, was the third Mauryan Emperor of Magadha in the Indian subcontinent during c. 268 to 232 BCE. His empire covered the largest part of the Indian subcontinent, stretching from present-day Afghanistan in the west to present-day Bangladesh in the east, with its capital at Pataliputra. A patron of Buddhism, he is credited with playing an important role in the spread of Buddhism across ancient Asia.

That’s what Colonial British wrote. Do you James Prinsep who supposed to have deciphered so called Ashoka edicts ? Well it was a Sri Lankan a person by the name of Ratnapala who did it. Ratnapala was a a Pali scholar. There was Pali scholars anywhere in India at that time. He mentioned to Brits about the Sri Lankan Mahavamsa. Well Brits took it to there possession as soon as they captured Sri Lanka and used that to construct Indian ancient history gaps.

It is really controversial to say he is a Buddhist king... Some historical professors debunked this with facts.... Maybe we need more information and evidence

Not sure about that, from my research it seems very clear to make the claim.

@@ASMR_Historian My research is clear. Colonial British mapped ancient history incorrectly. They are the ones who took the great chronicles of Sri Lanka, Mahavansa , Sri Lankan ancient history and used to fill perceived gaps in India’s ancient history. There is no scripts/ ruins in India that says Ashoka Only Emperor Piyadassi. The British mapped to Sri Lankan Ashoka recorded in Mahavamsa Tell me why anyone in Sri Lanka in the the 5 th century nearly 750 years after King Piyadassi right about Indian ancient history?? How come Piyadassi = Ashoka ?? It is as if someone saying John= Sharma SL Mahavamsa as Ashoka children as Mahinda In Indian scripts you have Piyadassi children as Tivara, Karuvaki , Kunala Jalauka. How does that equate to “Mahinda” It is as if “Sri Lanka = India 😅 The British wrote Asian ancient history in Eurocentric way with . Remember they ruled every where. No one opposed them. They wrote the history from their angle alone. They lumped us altogether as Indians miswrote Asian history. Huh they called us Aryans as well to say we are a of mix Indo European. 😅
