When she finally falls in love with zote, the knight ruins the version of zote she sees in her mind. After losing that love, she has nothing else and just leaves the town

Grey Prince Zote actually breaks the lore. After all, we all know the 57 Precepts of Zote, and Precept 15 clearly states that you must win in a single blow. So, if you aren't doing it on Radiant, you aren't getting the real Zote experience

I love that even as Bretta stops believing in Zote, the zotelings are completely undeterred. It really matches just how deluded he is.

This is phenomenal. I adore how Bretta’s lyrics change at the end, yet the Zotelings still “reply” to her as though they were the same as before, reflecting how Zote is so full of himself he can’t see that she’s beginning to doubt him. I’d love to see more. Maybe something involving Pale King or Hollow Knight. It’s not supposed to have a voice, but Broken Vessel showed that that can be worked around for the sake of song. Plus, it screams, suggesting the infection enabled it to vocalize. Both PK and HK have a lot of potential for something emotional.

why did watching this for the first time make me realize zote and bretta's relationship is something straight out of reddit and now i'm picturing like an AITA post or something written by one of these guys. i'm absolutely living for the dichotomy of the heavenly choir and orchestral track singing about zote stabbing you in the face. this character is so absurd and *these* lyrics clashing with the truly gorgeous song is exactly what i'd expect out of the character. brilliant

I always like to imagine that Zote was once an actually really powerful knight, who could fell mighty beasts just like the player Knight, but inevitably got too old and weak to actually do anything and is now just coping with the fact that he isn't as strong as he used to be, stubbornly defying his frail body and refusing to admit he's no longer capable of the same feats he was once able to perform with ease. Even though he doesn't admit it, I like to think Zote reciprocates some feelings for Bretta. To have someone to bestow his wisdom onto, to listen to his ramblings. Give us what we REALLY want; Zotesong!

Absolutely one of the best soundtracks in the game, and it's has translated well into song form. Also, the voice for Zote and Bretta sound so perfect. I've always thought Zote would sound more bratty-like but this suits him well better.

Such a fun song for a fun fight within the game. From the first time I saw Zote I absolutely loved his charm (though I may have tried to kill him at every turn 😂) When working on this song the main thing I wanted to work with was the thought of the Zotelings chanting throughout the background all of the adjectives tied to his boss fight. When I started to elaborate on that thought process I ended finding this strange balance between Zote, Bretta, and the Zotelings. After all this fight and therefore this song take place all within a dream, and if my dreams are anything to speak of, they make no sense while also ending up this strange and beautiful medley of ideas. When I started to go down this thought path and leaning into the idea that this is all a dream I ended up falling in love with the second verse having Brett's dream falling apart and seeing that, well, Zote is a hothead full of nothing but air. It was fun to work around that and despite Bretta not caring about her savior anymore, the dream keeps going full steam ahead, right up until it all goes, *poof*. The dream is over, Zote is seen for the charlatan he is, and Bretta resolves to leave town to find her own path without the Knight or Zote. Anyways, super fun song to work on and thank you a million to Alex for helping tighten the bolts on these lyrics to make them the best that they can be. Also super super thank you and amazing job to Carl and Jax. You brought these characters to life and I can't hear them any other way. And Alex and Ann thanks for being fellow Zotelings with me. ^-^

A true chad among dreams, Grey Prince Zote literally trips over his own feet the whole fight and still manages to be one of the hardest bosses to follow. Truly a testament to his wit and tenacity! None are his equal for none could possibly reach his true magnificence! Go on, cur! Scurry away, lest he humiliate you further!

Grey prince zote is an interesting boss, it’s either brettas sight of him blinded by his adventures or how zote sees himself and thinks how powerful he is although he is really weaker than how he thinks he is.

One thing I really love, the consistency as having Zote's nail in the artwork be made out of wood, as he tells the player at one point that it is. Amazing little detail on an incredible song

When Zote is harmonizing with Bretta and the zotelings... its just fantastic. Never thought that Zote could be presented so epically... not that he wasn't epic already.

What would really sell the whole "Zote becoming less impressive in Bretta's eyes" thing is with each battle against fantasy-Zote, the colours become more muted, the flowers wilt, the zotelings begin to turn into just masks, and the paintings become faded and murky.

Y'all remember the meme "the fewer names a sword has, the more dangerous it is"? You don't want to mess with someone with sharpened coiled polished pure nail, but you definitely don't want to mess with someone with Life Ender

Brenda singing praise for Zote actually makes so much sense. But holy crap Zote has a wonderful singing voice! Of course, it doesn't compare to his singing in his menu version, but he's still great.

Next, I want to see the Master of Souls. By himself, he is a colorful character, and his story is very tragic. He didn't kill bugs out of malice, he just wanted to find a cure for the plague. But he was deceived and now he lies at the bottom of the pit together with his victims. What a wicked irony.

I think the reason Zote never succumbs to infection is because his mental image of himself is so strong. Zote isn’t entirely on the wrong path when he says not to dream. Even if such a thing obviously isn’t possible Zote deludes himself into think it is and thus in dreams it functionally is.

I loved the line about the knight being heartless. It would be so cool to have a eerie kind of song about this silent character too. Hollow knight is full of amazing characters but the protagonist often gets overlooked. A small yet mighty fighter with no (apperant) emotions, made of void with tons of discarded siblings. Ready to make a sacrifice by taking the hollow knight's place or beating the radiace itself. That's such an interesting concept and I'd LOVE to hear a song about the knight becoming strong enough to beat gods with these aspects in mind, especially the unsettling ones

I saw a comment somewhere talking about how Zote may have been a really strong knoght at one point, his precepts following through, but age and memory loss getting to him and turning him into this pest that just wants to be strong again, making up stories so he can have that feeling back. I quite like this theory, makes him less insufferable to me
