Mexico City is probably my favorite capital in Latin America -- an intoxicating, passionate, and culturally-rich place with (still) a largely misunderstood reputation. In this Mexico City travel guide for first-timers, I share all the must-visits and the essential travel tips that will make your stay the best it can be! Mexico's capital, CDMX, can be a little overwhelming in terms of the sheer number of things to do, but I'll help you check out the best stuff even if you have limited time available.

I just got back from my first visit to Mexico City and while I didn’t watch this until now, I can say that this is a really good quick guide! One interesting side note that he didn’t mention is that CDMX (Mexico City) is really progressive! Has a great public bikeshare system (like many US cities), bike lanes all over, plastic bags in grocery stores are not allowed, and same sex marriage has been legal for years. I was there for five nights and, after watching this video, I realize I could have stayed for two weeks!

Chilango over here, this is by far the best video of cdmx I have seen. Regarding places to stay you're absolutely right, many people stay in condesa-roma-polanco area, and as a south cdmx resident I think you are missing a lot of beautiful places in the city. as San Angel, Pedregal, CU, bosque de pedregral, bosque de tlalpan. So, you can also consider coyoacan as a great place to stay. :) welcome to our city!!!!!

Nice job! We are frequent visitors to Mexico City and I can attest to the quality of info you provide here. After having stayed in several areas - I would not recommend staying in Centro. We stayed in the Gran Hotel (James Bond Spectre) one time. It was beautiful, and right on the Zocalo - but the area was dead and a bit sketchy at night. Perhaps a happy middle ground is Juarez - an easy walk to Centro and the restaurants of Roma. Another good area is Navarte - just south of Roma (cheaper and more locals). For museums, I would also recommend the Museo Nacional De Arte (MUNAL) - in Centro. A gorgeous building and they get some great visiting exhibitions (we saw a Caravaggio there). We also loved the Contemporary Art museum at the university (UNAM). Good luck with your channel - you are on the right track!

Also, thanks for the practical tips on getting around and using the local SIM card. It's clear you put a lot of effort into this guide. Looking forward to more travel tips from you! 🛫✨

I visited six weeks ago but just now seeing this. Really enjoyed the video and feel you do a great job! I would add that the castle at the top of Chapultepec Park is now the Nstional History Museum. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is also stunning with numerous murals by all the Mexican masters. The glass curtain on the performance stage was commissioned by Louis Tiffany in 1912 (think that was the year). It's incredible. Thanks for some great tips for my next visit to CDMX.

I have been to Mexico City back in 1980. It just reminded me of where I live in Los Angeles. Crowded! I really loved Guadalajara, Mexico it was so beautiful and green back at the time. My niece just flew back from Guadalajara, and she loved it. She showed me pictures and I cannot believe how much it has grown. She and her boyfriend who has family there want to buy a house in GDL. Los Angeles is way too expensive to live for young couples. But I told her if she moves out there, I have a place to visit once in a while. She says there are many Hi-Tech companies out there and it is growing for that reason. When I went there in 1980, there were not that many high-rise buildings but now It looks like either New York or Los Angeles. Pretty amazing.

I've only taken coach buses to reach places outside the capital. They're fantastic and pre-buying tickets for these is optional. I've not taken inner city buses - I prefer using ridehailing for this which is cheap and plentiful in CDMX. The metro is decent, though often very crowded and sometimes the signage is lacking, so I found it helpful to have a metro map on my phone. For longer distances in the city the metro is very useable, for shorter distances I found taxis/ridehailing very practical. Have fun :)

Good vidéo. CDMX is huge… I lived in Tokyo, so hopefully I’ll find my way in this wonderful city. Regarding public transportation… why does everybody says it’s when you are on a budget?!? It’s often the best on many aspects. Indeed, it’s saving friendly but it’s also environmental friendly and respectful to your environment. Cars aren’t private… they are using roads and bridges that are immensely more expensive than subways and trams… In the end, like it is in Tokyo, a wealthy city is not when poor people can afford their own cars but when rich people uses public transportation…
@indietraveller
@indietraveller 6 ай бұрын
True, I'm a fan of public transit too, though the metro in CDMX is sadly nothing like the metro in Tokyo. Delays, cancellations, and extreme crowds are common, so for a tourist it can be more practical to take a taxi...

Thanks. Very help. I'm 74 years young. I resided one year in Tijuana in 2014 and since 2015, reside in Puebla until now and have only seen CDMX from over the air or from the Bus going to the main airport. Puebla is the 4th largest city, only about 60 miles to the south of CDMX but will go the US Embassy and will go by myself. I live in the center of Puebla. I learnt enough Spanish to use the language to be comfortable with it and use it most of the time. I imagine there are may like me (US Navy veteran living on a modest pension). I go twice a year north to go to the VA Hospital in La Jolla, California. De nuevo... gracias. RT West, Ave 2 PNTE, PUE PUE, México.
