🟥 DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. The content I create is intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can permanently damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear during the entire soapmaking process, even while cleaning up. I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining. However, due to the many variables that can affect a particular batch of soap, if you do try any of my methods or techniques that I use in my videos, I cannot be held liable or responsible for your results.

I learned this technique years ago completely by accident. It was my first indigo powder oil infusion, and it turned out really weak (much lighter than the one in this video). I'd never used indigo before, so I thought maybe the pink would turn blue during saponification. Nope. 😂 Also, I recently learned (from a very kind subscriber - thank you!) that indigo comes from the leaves of the plant NOT the root, so I apologize for referring to it incorrectly in ALL of my videos until now. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I also wanted to mention that I’ve never had any issues with the pink or blue fading. After the soaps dry for about 4 weeks, I store them in a dry location away from direct sunlight. Thanks so much for watching! -Holly :)

Thank you so much, Shonna! 💕 That's so kind of you to say! I love the editing process, so your comment just made my day. 😊 I have a specific order I follow for every video just to help speed up the editing process. It's always the same: add all the unedited clips to the timeline, write & record voice over, add voice over and music to timeline - cut/edit clips as I go, add text anywhere needed, fix and normalize audio, add subtitles, export. I tend to spread it out and only do a little bit each day, but I could probably get it all done in about 2 or 3 days if I stayed focused. Finding music has become the most difficult part lately...it takes me forever to decide on anything. Thank you again! 💕

I infused some honeysuckle flowers in grapeseed oil a few months ago. I had strained it, but I just looked at it and there is a residue at the bottom of the jar. Is this a problem if it still smells good and there is no mold? I would love to get your opinion if you have time. Thank you in advance.

Woah! The infusion is an awesome idea! Still pretty new to soap making but I'd love to find ways to make the olive oil, not so yellow, and this seems to be an option maybe? Question though, can we infuse olive oil similarly with titanium dioxide? I have the hardest time getting a true white in my soaps which I reallllllly would love to figure out.

Hi Holly, you can use the full olive oil measurement in this soap can't you? That would make it a darker blue, or would that be to dark and stain your wash cloth?

I seen a video where the soaper used a 1/4 teaspoon of the indoor in the lye solution and that it wouldn't stain, but was wondering if used all the infused olive oil would stain?

Hi There, You make great tutorials, thank you. I have a question. Unless you live on a farm, why is lard your go-to fat? Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

I am not Holly, but I can tell you why many of us soapers use lard. First, it is a way to use the entire animal - no sense in throwing out the fat after using the rest of the meat. Second, lard is a very slow-tracing fat, which is a bonus for soapmakers who want to make fancy designs. Third, lard is very inexpensive throughout most of the US. Finally, lard makes wonderful soap. It is extremely gentle on the skin because it has a very low "cleansing" value. All soap will get you clean, but the cleansing number in the soap calculators actually refers to how much oil is stripped off the skin. With its low cleansing number, lard cleans very gently, so it is perfect for people with sensitive skin. HTH!

Curious, I purchased some indigo powder, but the powder is green, it was quite a bit cheaper than the one I bought before which was blue. I tried researching why some indigo powders are green and some blue, but wasn’t able to find anything helpful.

Does anyone ever have color-morphing issues with indigo, or is it just me? I infused cold, over a few months, and prepared soap batter in a way more similar to the blue soap, using it as a colorant instead of replacing all the olive oil in the recipe. When I completed my batch, the color was a dark blue green, and it looked as though it was going to stay that way, but when I cut into the loaf, I was surprised to find that the inside was a bright acid green. About 2 minutes after cutting, the green had oxidized to a less vibrant olive shade. It never did darken fully, but I was still happy with the color.

The blue looks grey to me. If I were to mix more of the indigo powder, would it be a darker more blue?

It is definitely a gray blue. You could try adding more and see if you like the color. However, if I want a darker blue, I use the other method I mention in the video using a more intense, dark indigo powder.
