The way you approach this channel is perfect for me. I love the way you talk through your thought processes as you paint. That is what I so need. I would like more on drawing as I feel that is my weak link to art. Thank you so much for all your input and for being here to show us how to approach this art and give us inspiration.

I've just stumbled across your channel. As an absolute beginner I found you as I searched for information on what type of brushes to buy, and then, like the curious rabbit, I fell down your hole and haven't been seen since. I'm a quilter who has discovered Inktense pencils, permanent colour for fabrics, and want to add colour, texture, shading, and whatever else you can come up with for me, to add to the medium of fabric. Hopefully you've heard from other quilters and know this topic is something that is in demand. Your teaching style is so comfortable and gives me great courage to give it a go. I look forward to what 2020 brings for both of us.

Hello from Lahore, Pakistan. I too am a quilter and exactly did what you did, buy inktense pencils to add colour, shade, and brightness to my fabric. Then I asked my brother in Canada to send me the inktense blocks, which he did last year but I have still not used them to their full potential. In the meantime, I started making painted envelopes for gift money and watching watercolour channels on youtube. It's the inktense that got me going in fact. I was wondering if we could use inktense as watercolour. Best of luck with your quilting and your painting.

I have so enjoyed watching you, Steve. I learn with every video you put out. Thank you so much for letting us watch over your shoulder. Thank you for your comments as you progress through your piece. The product reviews you do have been accurate. I have learned the hard way what a difference a good paper choice makes with watercolors. Unfortunately for me I'm afraid I have a lot of paper that is now worthless to me.

While I have been watching your channel for more than a year, I am an absolute newbie when it comes to watercolor, even art in general. I moved here from the adult coloring community. I find your videos very inspirational, and your reviews help me navigate the amazon minefield. I am disabled and very low income, and dont want to waste my money buying anything that isnt satisfactory, or i will outgrow...I am excited to see what you have for us in 2020!

Have watched your channel for almost 3 years and learned such a lot. Still refer back to earlier videos to review technique, products etc when I need to solve an issue in my own artwork. Love your sense of humor, humility and non-judgmental attitude plus the dose of Scripture at the end of so many of your productions. My goals in 2020 are to develop a better sense of good composition and the dynamics of painting a landscape that will add movement and atmosphere to my images. I want to continue to work toward mastering transparent watercolor technique while exploring opaque gouache, pen and ink and other media. Sounds like your channel is going to be a great help! Thanks!

I learn so much from Steve - even after 20 years of painting I binge on his channel and still learn new things. I saw you wanted to learn how to compose a painting - I just did a video about how to look at the composition of reference photos to decide if they would make good photos to work from for a painting. Happy 2020!

I am still a beginner and I really enjoy your videos. Love your plans, they all sound great. I haven't had much luck with many WC paintings recently & have gotten myself frustrated with it so for now I'm going to take a little break from WC and focus on acrylic for a bit. Hopefully I can achieve a few successful acrylic paintings so when I try WC again might have better luck or at least not get so down. WC definitely has a mind of it's own and we are just not speaking well to each other right now. Lol. Have a great year everyone!!

Your description of your approach to video making reads very well for viewers. Your narration is is thoughtful, well paced and instructive. Watching you talk through the steps you take to achieve something IS inspirational, because the end product is something to aspire to, and the narration makes you feel like it is something you could achieve. And the scale of the videos is also something achievable. I am so glad you are going to stay with this format. :)

Thanks for giving us a peek into the mind of Steve as well as watercolor and its characteristics. I stumbled into drawing and painting as just a way to be more mindful or to focus my attention away from unfortunately some very tragic events that i could not escape from mentally, I found that when i get in the zone everything else in the world just fades away. i started to see very quick leaps in my skill level and ability I became hooked, i started with graphite, color pencil, watercolor pencil, which then naturally led me to why not just try watercolor. Well, let me say the first attempts i soon discovered watercolor is difficult and I wanted to throw lamps across the room. (no lamps were harmed) I bought cheap supplies and thought I would never be able to produce the results I wanted, until I began watching your videos. The single biggest change in my art and the giant step for my art was using quality paper. 100% cotton paper especially the tried and true Arches gave me a better chance to execute more effectively and could stand up to the abuse required. I have watched your videos for months and the content is all there for beginners and it was awesome not to have it delivered in a step by step structured course, It allowed me to stumble through my journey, keeping my interest and always intrigued to discover a new skill, approach or product. My work has improved enough that friends and family have started calling me an artist and actually paying me to produce commission work! I would paint even if everyone else didn't like my stuff, but i have made enough to provide my self with a studio and the best supplies money can buy! Thank you so much, i still am a novice, but I feel as i have successfully completed watercolor 101, and know that I will be painting for the rest of my life! Painting for me is like neosporin for my soul, it has allowed to find joy and bring the sunshine back into my life! I am grateful and thank you sir!

While I did look for a playlist for beginners or tips & tricks, I love that your channel is "random" --- I feel like I've learned more that way, just as if you invited your viewers into your studio, welcome to watch as you explore a colour or demonstrate a technique. I've come across tips that I wouldn't have known to search for; things that aren't included in "beginner" videos, or seem to be overlooked/taken for granted in advanced instruction. Just wanted to say, thanks!

I was a repaint doll artist until a became disabled and now I have picked up watercolors. I love this channel for inspiration and ideas. I just setup my pallet with DS paints, picked up several types of cotton papers, picked out some watercolor brushes, which seemed decadent because of all the brushes I currently have for acrylics and oils, and have started to play and learn my paints. I have been a mixed media artist and even taught it locally. I would like to see how the watercolors can fit into what I already have. Most of what you are talking about for 2020 will allow me to shop in my own studio. Thank you for all the content you put up, I know that it is an investment of your time and appreciate it.

Oil used to "build" on top of watercolor is really beautiful, if done right. I use it to extend the brightness of flowers in dark meadows and in the depth of sea life. It is a much easier transition with Daniel Smith's and Holbein's water soluble oil paint, but it is also doable with traditional oil paints. I look forward to seeing Your application of this medium as well as others in the coming Year.

Welcome back, Steve. Funny, I have been spending all my spare pennies on colored pencils lately, so will be looking forward to the mixed media stuff. I have found that working slowly with colored pencil layers has helped me with my watercolor. I'm looking forward to your content in 2020! I'm mostly a watercolor artist and come for that content, but open to seeing you expand your horizons. Couldn't help but think of Toy Story when Reese's li'l brother was on the tripod.

I’ve been watercoloring for 1 year and most of what I learned I got from this channel. I’m very interested in drawing, fountain pens, pencil work, portraits, & landscapes, (trees too.) I’ve done a ton of your tutorials & have loved the portraits. Here is what I wrote about you today, “he does explain things well. He has the perfect balance of great teacher verbally and he is a great artist too. Lots of variety. Very humble too, which I like.” I tried to find a skull to practice with and I didn’t like the gross & spooky stuff I found, so I gave up and went just for the flesh faces. “Little Ree” comes to mind for a name for Reese’s little brother. Thank you for the GREAT channel.

Welcome to the new year Steve! The minute I get notification of a new "Mind of Watercolor" video - I jump to it. As you mentioned, your channel provides my watercolor inspiration. Seeing your India ink spill reminds me of my adventures in high school using the old Shaeffer ink cartridge pens. Usually ended up with an inky mess :-) Looking forward to this year's videos.

I appreciate your format, Steve...I stumbled across it as a complete beginner. The "stream-of-consciousness" narration that you give as you paint is tremendously valuable (and especially comforting when your watercolour makes its mind up to do something you hadn't planned). It's helpful to hear your decision-making process, and I find myself going back to older videos ("...hmmm...didn't Steve say something about that a while back?") The mixture of techniques and thought processes make it useful for folks at a number of levels, and even at a number of levels in their career.

My goal for this year and the last few months is to get myself back into the love of creating. My biggest goal is to keep learning by as much daily practice as I can fit in. Also to not get to discouraged and push through the learning stage even if my work does not always turn out the way I would like, but rather to work on improving through training my brain and just being tenacious and realizing that if I keep going, that I will get better and better. I super appreciate when you remind us that you have thrown lots of your work in the garbage and that it doesn't come easy without putting in the effort. It makes me work harder and not give up with frustration when I hear that you also have had to keep working towards improve your artistic skills. I hope this year brings you lots of happy days and that you have fun creating projects for us all. I am very thankful that I have found your you-tube channel! I have really been learning a lot from you. You have inspired me! :) I am especially enjoying the ink and wash. I really like the look of it and its just fun to do so I hope to see more of that from your channel.

Thanks for the video. Your plans for 2020 sound great! I hope your wife and son are feeling better and wish you and your family the best in 2020. My goals for 2020: Get my mom home from the nursing home where she is doing rehab for a broken leg. More mixed media watercolor. I have done line and wash and combined watercolor with pan pastels and water soluble pastel crayons. I will do more of that! I am taking a class on how to paint with acrylics at the local parks and rec. I would also like to combine some writing with watercolor. Here's to a great new year full of painting adventures!

Watching this in Aug. 2020, thinking you couldn't have known what unfortunate events 2020 would hold. I'm thankful to have your videos to cheer us up & let our minds have a nice diversion to ponder for a while.

Oh that's a cool new skull. I hadn't seen the unboxing yet here. As a kid I got a plastic, Glow In the Dark skull based on a real human skull. Had to put it together. The teeth kept falling out. But i found in my marble collection a couple of larger Shooter marbles, one was white with brown and the other white with red. Each of them had a side that "almost" looked like an iris of an eye. So I used to put the marbles into the eye sockets and I put a beanie on him. It freaked out my friends because of the marble eyes. haha, good memories. He's in storage somewhere. But yes, he would be great for drawing.

Enjoy your channel so much, glad that you won't change entirely, but excited to see the additional mediums used. Thank you for all that you do. I also am inspired by your scripture verses at the end of your programing. Thank you!

Please don’t change a thing. MoW is my favorite channel on KZfaq and I look forward to each new video that comes out. Usually, after watching one of your videos, my first thought is to stop watching KZfaq and start a new painting.

I started watercolor in March 2019...you're one of the first channels I found and I've binge watched. repeated watched, and stayed up on every new video since 🤗 Your videos really helped me to appreciate the intricacies of watercolor, to not get frustrated, and to look more closely and to be more observant of nature and how that connects to my paintings.. you were also my main guide for choosing colors and mixing colors I loved the video editing in the intro of this video 🤗and i think this was a helpful video! I'd love to see more videos about using dip pen or fountain pens techniques with paintings... excited for another year of watercolor!🤗
