In Indonesia, the Bajaus, an ancient people of nomadic sailors, live freely in coastal cities. They gave up their nomadic life to settle down in houses on stilts. They have kept a strong relationship with the ocean, and live thanks to fishing. While the men fish, the women sell the excess fish at the market. The Bajaus are a free people, they think they may one day return to the nomadic life.

Hey George! I have lived in the Philippines for almost 20 years now and want to know what you think about the "Badjao" people who do not live on/near the sea here? I mean the ones that travel all over, begging in the streets. My wife says the government returns them to their ancestral homes frequently but they have discovered that many of them prefer begging and sleeping in the streets. Here in Davao we see them all the time.
