in Jakarta, I want to find another traditional barbershop. I had already had the haircut, shave, head massage, and ear cleaning at Ko Tang... This time, I researched and decided to try PAX Wijaya Barbershop in Blok M of South Jakarta.
This Barbershop has been in business for 28 years, and so I figured they knew what they were doing. I wanted to get a little shape-up cut and a straight razor shave from one of the masters.
I walked in and made a quick decision to choose Dedi, who had been cutting hair for 30 years. He took his time to get it done right.
I wasn't disappointed. I definitely got the Indonesian barbershop experience here. Definitely Recommended.
Price: 110,000 Indonesian Rupiah for the haircut and razor shave.
I actually went back here for a Reflexology massage. That will be in the next video.

I was at a barber shop in Bangkok and I asked to get my hair dyed, and for the barber to surprise me. I noticed that it was taking a bit longer than hair dyeing normally would, and when I looked at the finished job in the mirror, I noticed that they were in rainbow swirls. Dude, you’re the man! Not only do you travel between New York and Jakarta in a few hours. You also can grow a beard in the same time, so you can have a shave in both cities. Finally you go to south of Jakarta, actually that area called grand wijaya - next of Police station , about 1 Km from blok M. PAx barbershop is one of famous in south jakarta and foreigner also come to that barbershop.

The longer right side hairstyle you got around minute 18 looks like a hairstyle wore by 'Jamet' here. It means Jawa Metal (Metal Javanese) because it comes from the culture of metal (not only metal to be honest, but sometimes emo/pop-punk culture) in the most part of Java. Also next time try to find some barber that comes from Garut, like the one from Nomad Barber's channel. Barbers from Garut is known for their barbering skills and mastery, also most of them will give you a sophisticated massage after haircut or shave (sometimes not necessarily relaxing but a massage that you will need in the middle in the day to stay fresh).

How do you research the shops and what criteria do you use to choose one? When I travel I get shaves and haircuts too while on the go. I usually don’t research in advance, I just go in some place by chance. It can be a hit or miss choice, but always an adventure. Great video and a great channel!

Jason Rupp I guess we go about it in a similar way. It really is the experience and the adventure that goes with it. Most people have no idea how hard it is two describe what you want at a barbershop, if you can’t speak the language. That’s part of the game too. At least hair grows back and sometimes the result is better than at home.

He put the address above. It's Grand Wijaya Center...a complex of shops across the street from Dharmawangsa Square, a trendy boutique mall. Now that the new MRT stops at Blok M Plaza it's kinda close. You could take a bajai from there or online transport.
