Is an indoor range your only option to train and practice? It is for a lot of people, and due to the different rules at each range it can be tough to know how to spend a few hundred rounds. Here Drew and Bob go talk through some of the different rules you may encounter at a range, and show a few drills that you can do.

When I started shooting IDPA where you're forced to combine everything, all the fundamentals, plus moving and shooting, shooting from cover, transitioning between targets, speed and accuracy, shooting multiple rounds on targets, drawing quickly from concealment...all the things you can't practice at most ranges, I started improving more rapidly than I ever would have just going to the range once a week shooting drills. If you want to see your skills improve as quickly as possible, dry practice every day for 5-10 minutes and shoot an IDPA match once a month. And hearing that timer beep in your ear and shooting under time pressure in front of 10-20 other boys and girls adds a nice little element of stress.

Great video, Indoor ranges in FL do not let you draw from a holster. That's why we train all our students at an outdoor range. Holster drawing and shooting while moving are important skills.

Lots of good key points in that video. Getting the foundation skills (stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control and follow through) down slowly, and tracking your performance based on accuracy before trying to speed-up or increase distance is super helpful to new shooters. It sucks that ammo is so expensive and some types still hard to find because that does affect how much some folks can practice, but practice/train as much ad you possibly can and record your training to be able to track progress. Good stuff guys! 👍

Only shot at indoor ranges a few times. They're hot and smoky, and the targets are pinned up higher than should be. I am fortunate to shoot at an outdoor range with a roof. It gets cold in the winter, but you learn to shoot wearing gloves.

My usual complaint is that my local range will not let you set pistol targets any closer than 10yd but I recently found out there's a outdoor private range where membership is only $175/yr AND they run IDPA every third Sunday. Compare that to the indoor ranges that charge between 30 and 60 a month plus registration. Yeah, it's outdoor but one thing that actually made sense in the military was "train for the worst case scenario". You don't get to pick where the gunfight happens so if you can be accurate when it's 27* and the wind is blowing then the 70* inside the super market or mall food court should be an issue.

When shooting with your left hand and you are right handed and right eye dominant, are you using your left eye? Or right eye? Shooting cross eye dominant.
