If they are showing the current with the flow of electrons instead of conventional current (depicted by positive charge), then the video is correct, because the right hand rule is defined in terms of positive charge, but the electrons (in blue) are negative charges.

When the current stops flowing isn’t the anode and cathode of the inductor switched? Hence the need for a fly-back diode? So wouldn’t the north pole of the magnetic field need to switch in the animation?

Finally the comment that says this
@arthuryu66024 ай бұрын
I think he is representing current as electron current, which is flow of negative charges, which is opposite of conventional current, flow of positive charges. So in this case, the fields he's shown in the first two examples are correct, as electron current is same as conventional current in opposite direction, which would produce the correct magnetic field as shown. But when he moved to the circuit, he is showing the magnetic field as produced by conventional current flowing right to left, but he set up the battery such that electron current is flowing right to left. So in that case his magnetic field is in the wrong direction. Anyhow, inductance is not that important in DC circuit, all it does is slows down the change in current. So without any inductance, the current in DC circuit would ramp to its desired value instantaneously, but with inductance, the current would increase linearly with time, and discharge in the resistor like an negative exponential.

What is the purpose, to lengthen the life of the battery? Why not make miles of coils, so we could get hours of energy from the magnetic field collapse. Or would it equal out due to needing extra energy to charge up the field? But if the field is secondary to the electrons moving to load then no extra energy is needed to build the field only extra wire for the coils, right?

in this example, could the inductor not simply be replaced by a capacitor for the same result?
@sanahaskuranage8071 Жыл бұрын
Yes but then inductor stores energy in the form of a magnetic field, and the capacitor stores energy in the form of an electric field.
@Zucc0 Жыл бұрын
yes, but when they get disconnected and release the energy, inductors also flip the polarity, and in many application it could be useful such as in a boost converter

Capacitor and inductors are similar in many aspects, both are reactive components .one of the major difference is that a Inductor stores energy in form of magnetic field on the other hand a capacitor stores energy in the electric field. Thanks for showing interest...

@markp8295 Жыл бұрын
@@evangaming7447 That is incorrect. They make AC capacitors. Capacitance in AC Circuits results in a time-dependent current which is shifted in phase by 90 degreeswith respect to the supply voltage producing an effect known as capacitive reactance. Also inductors, electromagnets and solenoids work with DC just fine. It's only transformers that are AC only as they induce current in the secondary winding due to a changing magnetic field.
