I think it important to point out and appreciate the depth of this beginners tutorial and the quality of the information this man is giving out, practically free. This is by far the best video out there for those who seek to get into sketching and industrial design! AWESOME work man. I have never subscribed to someone so fast.

This is actually insanely informative and well presented. I teach Design at upper secondary school and I'll totally refer my students to your video series if they need to work from home/study extra or just want to deepen their understanding of Industrial design drawing!

This video is superb. Drawing is just a hobby for me, but a very important one because reasons. With what I draw, these principles haven't been too important, but lately I've been feeling hampered by my limitations of not understanding them, and frustrated when I tried to branch out, with the lack of foundation to work from. This is hands down the best, most thorough, and most accessible information on vanishing points I've found, after quite a bit of looking. As indicated by your previous "long convoluted attempt" at making this video, it is not an easy thing, to create something simple. This is already changing my sketching game, which then impacts many more areas of my life. Thank you, very much. You have the teaching skill - it is a true gift.

The best way i found to do the line warmup is to do draw a fairly large circle with a dot in the middle and then you can draw dots on the circle and draw lines from the middle to the dots around the circle (or if you prefer drawing from the dots around circle towards the middle). This ensures that you are practicing drawing straight lines at every angle.

You have some amazing freehand drawing skills. I worked as a technical illustrator for many years before the days of personal computers and cheated by using rulers, calculators, computers and plastic ellipse guides to create cut-away perspective illustrations of engines and gearboxes etc. Freehand drawing is a totally different although related skill set that I never quite mastered, and I do appreciate your freehand drawing abilities. I would love to see how you would approach freehand drawing an accurate representation of a spiral cast-iron stairway from an offset view taken from above the staircase, which was possibly one of the most challenging technical illustrations that I ever attempted, and I personally could not imagine creating such a drawing freehand.

Another good line practice is to take a pen and cross out every line of text in a newspaper for straight line practice.

I have a question , i hope you're still active right now because it has been bugging me. In one point perspective is the vanishing point always in the middle?Can you adjust where to put the vanishing point?For instance it's on the right middle-ish. In 2 point perspective are the vanishing point limited to rhe sides only? In 3point perspective are the 3 VP only limited to left right and bottom?

have you tried the exercise where you put a dot the in middle of the page and try to hit all the dots around its that are in a circular motion because i notice that your are purposely handicapping your own drawing skill by not doing this, because i made this exercise for my self and i never need to adjust my hand from the 45 degree angle i hope what i just said makes any sence.

Hey Robert, I have a question about 1 pt perspective, I hope you are still active since the question was really bugging me. So for 1pt perspective, Can there be two different vanishing points located differently? Like, One vanishing point for one cube, and the other vanishing point for another cube, but all in the same canvas. I don’t know if that’s possible since in 1pt perspective the vanishing point is where your eyes are looking at. Thank you for reading so far and have a good day! this was a great video. i just don’t get why sketching is so highly valued in the ID community when you can make a rough model in cad and get a perfectly executed drawing from that? it seems like a waste of time to sketch and when i have an idea the first thing i want to do is put it in cad not waste time on sketching.

If you normally spin the paper, just spin it. Better to see how you handle it naturally IMO. Good info though.
