Catholic Answers Director of Apologetics Tim Staples explains the Biblical basis for papal infallibility.
Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization here at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps. During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community.
During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church!
He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years.
Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.

Tim Staples really knows his bible. I have checked references and this fits in completely. Write them down and play the tape -- all Catholic belief is as a result of biblical teaching we need people like Tim who knows where to find them.

I wish you and Tim Staples could do one on Mary's Perpetual Virginity. So many Protestants here are putting up videos on this thinking that they know what they are talking about. God Bless

@ArboriusOwns The Bishops are all successors of the Apostles. Also, the other issues you have with the Church are indeed scriptural. God bless.

my friend you understand this wrong! The apostles were the only church at that moment! Jesus was NOT speaking to the crowd but to the apostles(his 12 disciples)

For the 1st 1,000 years the elders of the unified world church indeed did this. Unanimous agreement by all the elders was required. They accorded the Pope, bishop of Rome, a special honour as "president"/ final spokesman, of the councils. A change was made to the original version of the Nicene creed re the Lord Holy Spirit - the filioque. The Pope initially opposed this, but subsequently attempted to force it on the Byzantine elders without a council, thus denying their apostolic authority from the churches founded by St. John & St. Paul.(God does not "change his mind") This breach of a tradition which had held the church together for 1,000 caused the 1st. split. There were other more human tensions too. Rome anathematised the Eastern church before vice versa. IMO Rome only represents 1/2 the original Church thereafter, & vice versa. However the Eastern church has not fragmented further as it continued to adhere to tradition. During the Crusades, with Papal authority, members of the Eastern Church were massacred, so say, with greater brutality than the Moslem Turks. Until recently, I thought that the Catholic Church stopped killing those deemed to be "heretics" centuries ago. I find that as recently as immediately post WW2 the Pope joined forces with the communists in Yugoslavia.Catholic priests were photographed alongside soldiers shooting bound, Orthodox believers in the head - mass murder. Very few in the West know this. The Papacy could have handled sexual immorality in the priesthood much better. It let down not only the abused, but the abusers. Whoever leads the least of these my little ones astray it would be better for him if a millstone were tied around his neck & he be cast into the sea. I do not throw mud at the Catholic Church - I know you don't worship the Blessed Virgin or statues. By far the majority of priests are godly men. I simply say that all human beings make mistakes, misunderstand, get it wrong. There is much good in the Catholic Church. I cannot accept infallability. Only God never makes a mistake. To me, we have all gone off the rails one way or another. Let us ALL bow our heads in penetance for our part in tearing the body of Christ to shreds. No denomination is completely innocent.

Infallibility is not impeccability which shows you are commenting on the wrong video, this video is not an attempt to make the Pope sinless, you are on the wrong page

Jesus was speaking to the apostles not the church. The catholic doctrine is opposed to the scriptures on many levels. From forbidding marriage to Jesus having siblings to infant baptizm so on and so forth.

Dude, really. I aint got no time to show you. But the pope is not infallible. Never was and never will be. The papacy is mans tradition of how they think the word of "God" is to be interpeted. Im protestant now because of that. Among other reasons.

Gus Ramirez To say God didn't give us absolute assurance, is quite idiotic.
