Lived in Columbus from '54 until '64, so I don't recall if I was ever told the whys or wherefores concerning PC, but before our family moved I had been made aware no one in their right mind ventures across the river into Alabama. I was ten when we left but I can remember looking at the 14th Street bridge with trepidation every time we went downtown close to the river. This truly was as interesting a history lesson as I would ever care to binge, but I did and it was well worth the time. Great job.

I saw a movie made back in the day about phenix city.in it,they portrayed a young black girl ( 5/6 yo) being murdered in connection with the struggle you speak of. Do you know anything about that?

Way I heard it Fuller didn't fall off any horse. He was damn near beaten to death by underworld operators for killing Patterson.

I strongly disagree with the actions of the governor at the 15:30 mark. Declaring martial law and confiscating all of the firearms from private citizens was complete horse shit. You've got a bunch of bad apples in the local government and police department, who have ignored morality for two decades, and when the bigger government decides to do something about it, the first thing they do is disarm the private citizens in the area. In a crime ridden town, you decide that you have to make EVERYONE defenseless because you couldn't do your jobs right the first time around. If the local government couldn't do the right thing for twenty years, why would the citizens believe that the state/federal government will do it right? Blaming the citizens for the failure of the local government is fucking ridiculous. You know damn well those citizens never got their guns back either.

The armed citizenry had things in order, to be sure. I hope the gubment is doing right by you these days, doing their job, keeping you safe. Tracking, monitoring, stepping in when circumstances warrant. Preemptive measures like shutting down businesses , and even cars, when experts determine there may be unsafe conditions. I would prefer the gubment gave us cheese again, instead of all this other 'help'. What often gets labeled as corruption today is egos running church bake sale compared to Phenix City. Rot had to be culled. How many residents in Russell Co. at that time would join you in slamming white claws, punching themselves in the face, and yelling at the ground in backyard, about how they be getting blamed for shii.. Many were terrorized by the syndicate and it's operatives. Not by violent words, either , like today. The Concerned Citizen group was formed to counter what was going. Of course today, the gubment does a much better job, and would shut down such a group _just how fast, you reckon?_ I mean, going agsinst the status quo like that... C'mon, man

they weren't going after long guns. Published articles list 40 pistols and one submachine gun as being confiscated as handguns had permits and could be found. We were fine at home with my 12 gauge.

Great series! I wish we could use this as a template to clean up the cities of today, If there was someone with the balls to lead such a movement. I know, maybe we could elect TRUMP and start to clean up the mess to make America great again. It is our last, best hope!
