Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! Today, I'm excited to share an in-depth review of my personal surfboard, the Sharpeye Inferno 72. As someone who is 6'1" and 185 lbs, finding the perfect board can be a challenge, but this one feels just right.
Its a little more volume than i usually ride but i didn't seem to notice the extra foam as the tail of the board felt super loose and snappy.
My Sharpeye Inferno 72 is 5'10" long, 19.26" wide, and 2.61" thick, with a volume of 30.44 liters.
This board excels in wave with some speed. Chest-head high was the ideal zone. It was fast and loose.

Like Jake said the board "not carrying speed to much" - I found you have to surf it off the tail using the thruster setup more. It's not like a Pyzel that you can draw speed off your front foot and press forward to keep momentum through flat sections or to keep up with running wave. It made me surf off the tail more and do better wraps that accelerate from back foot pressure. But unlike a Pyzel that excels with forward weight in late takeoffs and drawing off forward weighting for speed it would slip or not track with forward weight. Any surfer who's heavily backfooted will think this things a dream. Any neutral or forward footed surfer will need to adjust. It's hard to grovel with because you cannot use the forward part of board to bump and pump for speed without losing traction. Wraps with heavy tail pressure and peaky shoulders with some speed that don't run too fast, this boards a dream.

Do you think you will do a board test on the Sharp Eye Storms model? I like how you surf and the type of waves in this video are what I usually ride in San Diego. I am debating on either getting the Inferno72 or Storms. Curious to see which one you prefer if you have a chance to review the Storms 🤙🏼

Hey mate, This or the red tiger for every day beachie?

Hey Jake are you still surfing this thing? I ride a pyzel white tiger when its under chest high and mushy. I'm looking for a new daily driver board for like stomach/chest high+ for San Diego waves. I am deciding between a few pyzels (red tiger, phantom, mini ghost) or going and getting a custom from Marcio (disco or inferno 72)

@@ginjaturtles id say the inferno 72 is the ultimate chest -head high weapon. its so fun and fast. Phantom is a good option too. Both boards can hold a little better in bigger waves with techflex fins. jjf large- I72 AM2 techflex large- phantom inferno 72 wide point center (back footed surfer) phantom wide point forward (front footed surfer) hope this helps. both super sick daily drivers

Thanks for this review - do you like this better than the Sub-Driver 2 as a daily driver in SoCal?
@jakewetzel3186
@jakewetzel3186 2 ай бұрын
ya i have been riding my inferno more and more as time has passed. the subdriver 2.0 was a great board and but honestly didn't really find a sure spot in my quiver. I liked the driver 2.0 in mediocre/good waves and when it was smaller i ride my grovellers. IMO i think there are more lively boards in that range that i have stuck to. The inferno 72 lights up with the right fins. (sharpeye fins or Futures F8) it was a night and day difference between raked fins for me (AM template) was a little drawn out for the board. Id like to try the john john fins in the inferno as well. But to answer your question my favorite daily drivers for socal have been the inferno 72 or pyzel phantom for 3'+ waves in socal.

@@jakewetzel3186 Thanks man! Just picked up the inferno72 this weekend, pumped to try it out. I met Marcio incidentally at the Sharpeye store, very cool guy. He recommended always use large fins and could even use a medium fin as trailer

How this board comper to shadow xl.who you like better in head pluse🎉

@jakewetzel3186 3 ай бұрын
the shadow i rode in hawaii definitely had hold in bigger waves head high+ although to me it felt a little dead if the waves were even the slightest bit mushy. The inferno feels more snappy and lively than the shadow, but when it becomes powerful, its hard to slow the inferno down for critical turns in barreling waves

@@jakewetzel3186 Hey Jake, sick surfing How would you compare it to the red tiger? You said a lot the inferno 72 needs a bowly wave whereas Ive heard the red tiger prefers less sloped waves. Would you agree and do you know any other differences between the two?
@peters219

I just got a shadow and haven't tried it yet. I've ridden a lot of Pyzels and like their forward bias. You can draw off your front foot and forward weighting. I'm neutral to forward foot biased so the Inferno was a rude awakening. It made me use my back foot more and do better tight wraps with speed. I got better using it but it's very much a backfooted surfers dream. Like Jake said its snappy or really squirrely or lively. But also when waves get round or fast or you have to make sections it's kind of gets tricky to ride.

@@Nathan-fo4vq ya the inferno and red tiger are both great boards. Both wide point center and are snappy in the pocket. The inferno 72 and red tiger are pretty similar in a lot of ways just with a different feeling due to the rockers. The red tiger did carry speed through flat sections a little better and had a more predictable shortboard feeling. (like you were never going to catch rail or have the board do something weird). The inferno 72 is more lively and has a ton of speed when the wave offers it (more than the red tiger). It can do tighter arcs in my experience riding it, and with the right fins (sharpeye fins/futures f8/John Johns) it a dream board in the right conditions. chest high+ and lined up so you can get some speed. So really it comes down to your preference. Do you want a predictable board that surfs great in the pocket and can handle a little bigger waves overhead+ (red tiger)? Or Do you want a more responsive lively board with a ton of speed that is a little more unpredictable and tops out around the head high to slightly overhead mark?
