Theres a place in wales(uk) that has two dams in a set up like this, during daytime they generate power when its most valuable to the grid, at night the power is cheap on the grid so they buy power back at a cheaper rate to pump the water back up the the top reservoir and the cycle repeats. Tom Scott has made a video of it recently.

I think the idea is feasible. It just needs a proper engineer to use roads for calculating the build space. Doing it by hand is less time consuming and reduces the build cost. But, since the idea is to forgo build cost for maintenance cost, seems like it fits the idea. Per example, to start with, build a huge square to demark the size of the pit. Then, "cut the corners" by rounding the roads up and use them as the limiters. That ought to keep it symetrical and make further calculations possible.

@ThelagKingStrikes

While yes, this does break the laws of physics by producing more energy than was put into the system (by quite a bit). Systems like this are actually used in real life to store massive amounts of energy. They pump the water uphill, then let it flow through a hydroelectric generator when needed, this stores way more energy than any capacitor could even dream of. While not being super efficient, it is better than having millions of capacitors trying to store the same amount of energy.

they actually have power plants that generate power by draining reservoirs on the tops of mountains. The water rushing down the mountain spins turbines and provides extra power to the grid during the day. Then at night, when electricity demand is less, they pump the water back up the mountain. So this is somewhat realistic.

Not that many people care, but the water wheel will produce 100 power and use 10 then the water pump will use 10 itself resulting in a surplus of 80 infinite power, but it can be expanded on itself infinitely. It is very interesting that a similar concept can be applied to Cities Skylines.

Make it where it's run on Sewage water with water filters and hopefully when you hit the last power supply the water is fully clean and can go back in to the river and people can use without any pollution so that way it's truly efficient to use other than just making energy

I have an idea for this, make one of these and you have to build a city where this is the only power source you can use. When you make it turn infinite money and advancements on but turn it off when you make the city.

What if the maps can be download or uploaded or something and can be compatible for other games like Skyrim or Grams Theft Auto, you get the point and easily make custom maps.

Heh, I was makin 3.2 GW from a single damb. Just made a bigger difference between sections to push it to the limits. FREE ENERGY RULES!!! Btw dumping sewage into this kind of loop makes an infinite loop of pollution increasing it to maximum. Soooo just make sure to disconnect it from your city.

You should make a water spire city that runs on water wheel generators and have the water flow in a "spiral" from the top down

This would make a great grid battery IRL, to store renewable. Would have to carve it out of a literal mountain tho.

You should fill only one or two of the compartments because that will create more of a difference in height and therefore creating more power.

It can get more efficient than that, just increase the circle size so you can fit more damns across more levels.

so they are actually building this for real in Canada, letting a lake through a dam during the day and selling the electricity to the grid, then when it is cheap, pumping it back up to the lake at night.

You would need to make an upflow for the water to rise fast enough to create a current for electricity generation and even then it would probably only make enough to sustain itself ,unless it's the same size as the grand canyon xD

Make this in a real city with non infinite money. Maybe expand the toll city dam to use a system similar to this?
