In this video we will be repairing the infamous g37 sunroof drain leak / clog! Fix water on floorboard carpet and mildew smell. The best and easiest way I have found is to ditch the old drainage system and reroute new lines to the a/c drain. Most people will attempt to replace the drain seal at the firewall only to realize that it is an absolute pain to get to and half the time it still leaks after the repair. Rerouting the sunroof drain to the a/c condensate drain on the passenger side is a foolproof method to fixing the g37 sunroof leak for good!

Found a wet carpet this week, luckily the drivers side so nothing got fried. Found your video and liked this method much more than any other one I'd seen. Found all of the pieces I needed and completed the whole job in an hour and a half. I used clear tubing so I could see how it was draining. I tried some water at home as a test and then took the car through the a car wash with the A pillar covers off and the passenger carpet folded back so I could watch the draining in real time. You saved me so much time and frustration, thank you!!!

You sir are a genious! Thank you for sharing this video!!! I've had this leak issue repaired TWICE at the dealership, both at great cost, and just two years between "fixes"! And the leak recently returned again for the THIRD time! I took my 2010 G37 back to the dealer and they want $2k to "fix" it!! I told them there was no way would pay that ridiculous price. And the service advisor and manager both tried to tell me they've never heard of these cars having repeat issues, that once it's fixed, it's fixed. Liars!!! I called the parts department to see if they had the drain clips in stock and this guy was honest about this issue. He told me that they keep this part in stock because these cars have this known design flaw. I ordered all of the parts on everyone's favorite online store and they will be delivered tomorrow. Then I'll tackle the issue and fix this problem myself.

2008 G35 Sport Sedan. My son and I just completed this repair. The hardest part was on the passenger side. Routing the tubing through the dash from the A-pillars. It would only go about a foot or less and then stop. Since we could not get it to go further, we had to remove the glovebox and the support behind it. Removal was super simple and afforded us a much better access and view to route the tubing from the A-pillar and behind the dash to the firewall and ultimately to the passenger footwell. We did both sides, passenger and driver even though the only side that was leaking was the passenger, it was only a matter of time for the driver side to fail - the driver side was much simpler to route the tubing through the dash under the steering wheel shaft and over the top of the pedals - easily zip tied to keep the tube clear of the pedals and maintain drain slope. Huge kudos to you for sharing this video and showing that it can be done.

Saw this video earlier today from a Facebook comment, watched through and a couple hours later I went to Home Depot, got the 3/8 line, 3/8 barb splicers and the 3/8 barbed tees and some hose clamps it was about $40! Got it done in about an hour. Such an easy fix, better then the stupid straw/ drain method. The driver side I had a little bit of a harder time cause I had to put the tube behind the steering column, which caused it to travel up slightly so water doesn’t get pushed through as good, but it still works great. Thank you !!!

I have the same problem with my 2010 Infiniti FX35. My carpet were soaked like yours. I did extensive research on this and found that the cause of the problem is the drain plugs that terminate in the firewall. I watched a lot of videos of people trying to replace those, or modify their existing plugs by taking out the baffle and putting in a metal straw. This seemed extremely difficult and beyond my skill set. I didn't want to pay $1500 for the dealer to replace the drain plugs only to have it happen again so I decided I would do it myself. When I pulled the carpet up I saw the AC drain in the floorboard and thought that I might be able to use that. I searched on KZfaq to see if anyone else had the same thought and found your video. We must think alike. I'm good at troubleshooting and coming up with solutions, but not so good at executing the solution so I am glad that you posted this video to show me how it's done. I am going to attempt it in the next few days as soon as I source the parts. This seems like the best fix for this solution. What I am really surprised at is how come there isn't a recall for this problem since it happens to EVERYONE at some point. It's not just wet carpets you have to deal with either. I have read horror stories about people who have had electrical problems from the water ruining their ECMs and other electronics. I love Infiniti but I will never buy another one with a sunroof.

@@alexisvelazquez3509 I can't figure out how to post a picture here. If you have an email, I am happy to email the photo of the tie in as I did it. If you pull the carpet up in front of the passenger seat (4:08 om in the video) you will see the drain going through the floor. Rather than tie the two drain hoses from the sun roof together before they tied into the A/C drain as he did at 7:40 in the video, I cut the A/C drain in two places. The first being about 4 inches before it went down through the floor, then at another 4 inches from that spot. At these two points I put in a T fitting, as I mentioned about I had to by two 1/2 x 3/8 x 1/2 barbed Ts which worked great. I used small zip ties to secure the connections and it worked. Good Luck.

Many thanks brother. After watching your video for about the 7th time, I eventually gained the confidence to solve my M35 sunroof leakage problem myself. The M35 (2009) is a little different than yours, though. First, I notice there was no space for an extra hose beside the factory one. So, I had to pull out the factory one entirely. Then I ran my new hose into the same hole, but it didn't come out in the cabin. Instead, it came out outside (in the hood). I was then able to find a hole through which I passed the hose all the way to the back of the tire (for the driver side). I did the same thing for the passenger side. The driver side is relatively easier. The passenger side, on the other hand, was really tough. I spend approximately three hours on this job, and about two hours of this whole time was spent on the passenger side. This is because I tried passing the hose through a hole underneath the battery tray (close to the IPDM). This proved impossible. I eventually had to pass the hose beside the battery and all the way to the front. That way, I was able to get it out somewhere close to the tire. In essence, my sunroof leakage has been fixed, and I have no fear of rain anymore, all thanks to your video, and a few others I watched. Worthy of note: this work on my 2009 M35 had absolutely nothing to do with the cabin, except for pulling out the A-pillar. I also did not use the T, since I didn't need to connect my hoses to the AC drainage hose. All I used for this job were the hose (about 15ft), two two-way connectors, and some zip locks.

I had to permanently fix mine the other day but all I did was shove some rubber tubing roughly the same size in diameter as the oem plug in the drain hole then fed the sunroof drain tube down that. wish I would have thought of this but no way I'm going through the headache of ripping it out again

Dude, add me to the list of the grateful G owners! I am not handy at all and was nervous as heck about doing this but I managed to get it done in about an hour! I had a difficult time fishing the new tube behind the dash so I removed the air vent and was able to do it that way. I didn’t have time to test it but fingers crossed I have a dry G this week as we are expecting a bunch of rain. Thanks again!

Total lifesaver !!! I ended up pulling the headliner off a bit to expose the 2 drain locations. Added new hoses to both sides. Ran it to the ac condenser drain plug under the carpet. 👍🏻 spent $29.99 at Menards (W)

This worked very well. Thank you sir! Only issue I came a cross was during the water test I did before installing the panels by windshield. I had water leak through where I made the connection from existing hose to new hose. I changed from zip ties to the clamps and no leaks after that. Couldn't tighten zip ties more than I already had them! Other that no problems! Thanks again.

do you have any water building up in the tube or did you have the hose go perfectly down hill on both sides?
@egotek
@egotek 8 ай бұрын
@@diegobarragan7898 There is maybe an inch or so of water buildup in the hose coming from the drivers side right where it hits the T joint because I didn't get it perfectly downhill, but I haven't seen it build up anymore than that. I also used clear tubing because that's all i could find, but it's nice to be able to see where it's working and where it's not.

I did my drivers side this past weekend and plan to do the passenger this coming weekend. Had a small issue with the ac hose fitting 3/8 or 1/2 so I had to use a ton of sealant and 3 zip ties. I plan to make it better this coming weekend but I tested it and it worked.
@ctrlzyx2
@ctrlzyx2 8 ай бұрын
What did you use for sealant? I ended up going through a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter and then 1/2x1/2x1/2 tee. Tried zip ties then stainless hose clamps, but i still have leak. At least I transferred leak from driver side to passenger side, but I know it's my repair that's leaking. This is for 2013 with the larger diameter (and thinner wall) condensate line. Thin wall tubing and barbed fittings not the best match.
