When you said “I guess rich people have nothing better to do” you hit it right on the head!…Rich people do anything and everything they can think of because they can. Scary I know… great job with a crazy movie 🌻💜

The popular theory behind the 2018 reveal at the end is that it coincides with the six-year gap in work Brandon Cronenberg had between his first film "Antiviral" and this movie ("Antiviral" came out in 2012 and he began developing early drafts of "Infinity Pool" in 2018/2019), though it should be noted that his second film "Possessor" wound up coming out in 2020 and production for "Infinity Pool" didn't officially start until 2021.

While the core theme of the film is definitely about the horrors of people creating chaos around them with zero ramifications, there's also a meta-commentary about creative block and the difficult relationship the writer-director has had with nepotism and living in the shadows of his father, who is also a well-known filmmaker. James' *one* book only got published because his father-in-law owns a publishing company, and this insecurity around living with money that isn't his is easily exploitable by Gabi and the other tourists, who ultimately find the events of this vacation inconsequential. Meanwhile, he's left with the trauma of literally killing a version of himself that was created for their amusement in a death match. While he's initially led to believe this "transformation" is about finally becoming one of them, it's ultimately him cementing himself as their next plaything to torture and degrade. Not a perfect movie for sure, but it's premise is unique enough on its own to separate itself from the sea of other films discussing dangerous levels of privilege.

I think James was just their newest potential group member. Nothing more special than that. Unless they somehow look for people who are directionless & lacking passion. 🥑🥑Avocados from Li Tolqa!!🥑🥑

To 'vacation' & to 'vacate' are 2 different things. 'To vacation there a lot' means to spend alot of your free time there. 'To vacate there a lot' means you took a lot of shits there. 🤣

The WTF-ery of this movie makes sense when you realize that David Cronenberg's son Brandon made this movie. Both of them love the weird body horror although this actually is nowhere near as explicit as Brandon's previous film Possessor

As for the passport. It strangely goes missing after his argument with his wife. I think the wife hid it purposely because she said that she didn’t like that he could watch the original version of murdered & not even react with emotion towards it. She didn’t know who she was with anymore & so she hid the passport so that he wouldn’t go with her. & then when he finds it under the sink he realized he had a way out of the “country” & tried to leave immediately before Mia’s group ambushed & blindsided him.

This movie is so strange. I didn’t really care for it because it was just too strange for me. But I loved Mia Goth & Alexander Skarsgård’s performance. I love the scene where Mia’s character just completely hijacks the bus, it was so crazy but I loved it

Honestly I think Mia’s character just did it because she liked him a little bit & that they just wanted him to become a clone like her group. I think they just stopped caring about life in general because they didn’t know if they were real or not so they just wanted anything to distract them & they just wanted to act out as much as they can

Yeah the trailers were very misleading. So even if you had seen the trailers before hand thinking it was some killer cult & then go in to the movie you’d still be going in blind. Because like 16 minutes in the twist happens & then that’s what the entire movie is about. The twist with the body changing happening over & over & over again. Mia Goth & her rebel group never learning & constantly making mistakes to go against the government knowing they’ll be caught & replaced every time because they fail every time which then makes you start to wonder if Mia Goth’s group is just incredibly dumb or if they just don’t care & are doing it to themselves on purpose
