Growing up a child of divorce, i hardly ever got to see families on TV that looked like mine. (The only one i can think of on the top of my head is The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.) The way Infinity Train tackles this is just one of the many reasons why it deserves more seasons. PLEASE support Infinity Train by streaming it on HBO Max, it’s pretty much the only way we can guarantee we’ll get more.

Bethany Bradley damn thats rough i’m really sorry to hear about all that. while my relationship with my dad has always been shaky, i’m thankful my mom knew well enough to put her foot down and get a divorce or i probably would’ve ended up worse than i am now. i hope you’re able to grow and move forward, best of luck

The thing you learn about divorce is two things. One: Family is no longer invincible as they always preach. You have no reason to stay and you doubt their words and love even when they say, “We’ll always love you.” Also it is like seeing someone die. Something that you expect to live forever dies in front of you. It shatters your world and brings a grim reality to you. Two: You have to take care of yourself. Even with two parents, it is like living with one or even none. You lose trust and reliance in them. You get angry and either blame yourself into depression or blame them and resent them. You can no longer depend on them anymore because they aren’t even together to help you or even capable of helping when the biggest part of their lives was broken on their watch.

My parents would argue a lot. ik people have worse story of divorced parents but damn it makes you feel soo alone and confused and I feel the whole blaming yourself for their divorce me and my brother felt like it was our fault and we still do, I was always close to my mom and I was somewhat close to my dad and I felt like maybe he thought we loved my mom more than him but thats not the case. I had a friend group where they had their parents love them and they were all still married i just felt out of place when I seen their parents happy together. I'm bad at dealing with my problems and feelings where I hate if I cry and stuff its gotten to the point where I haven't been able to cry for about a year. I've closed myself off from both parents now and they ask if things are okay and I just continue this cycle of running away

One thing I love is that Tulip doesn’t just *say* that she’s accepted her changes and immediately does a 180 shift - it takes 10 episodes for her to do that. Too often, you see characters accept change or choices with one speech or sentence, when in reality, acceptance can take a long time.

Definitely, in fiction a character can just say and acknowledge they need help or know what they need to do, but they're not there mentally and emotionally yet, so it needs to be actually worked out.

It's absolutely crazy how much of an effect this 13 year old girl made on the train. She gave Lake the confidence to become her own person in Book 2, returned One-One as the conductor, stopped Amelia as the false conductor, and helped her start accepting her pain, which brought Amelia to Grace in Book 3. Apart from Book 4, every season was affected in some way by Tulip. What an absolute MadLass

Tulip saying the word "divorce" is really important. While it may seem like a small detail, it shows how Infinity Train doesn't hold it's punches. It deals with REAL issues and doesn't dance around them. It presents them in realistic, lowly romanticized ways.

Imagine how guilty tulips parents felt. Cause what they probably think happened was, tulip was upset about the divorce so she ran away and went missing for 5 months, the camp says she wasn’t there, none of her friends said she saw her, so she’d been pronounced missing, they probably felt like really bad parents, so they would’ve been so relieved when she came home.

I just realized that every season of infinity train has the future seasons protagonist in it. They always show the character has an unresolved arc and the next season resolves it. Good storytelling and build up for characters in my opinion. It makes you interested in the next story without pushing the current one to the back and makes sure to separate the new protagonist before the current story ends.

I didn't notice this before, but when the parents are telling Tulip they're getting a divorce, the Dad is still wearing his wedding band, while the Mom is not. Really shows how they were feeling about separating :( Mom knew it was permanent, Dad was still hopeful. One of my friends has divorced parents, and he saw it coming from a mile away, kinda like you. For him, he wasn't surprised and was just kind of relieved the fighting was done. What was it like for you, if you don't mind me asking.

@@Flarflenugen sorry, I literally just saw this. I was relieved at first, but then both of my parents kind of fell apart. My dad started drowning himself in alcohol, and would sometimes lash out at my mom over the phone over mundane things. My mom meanwhile started dating. She managed to find a couple guys far worse than my dad. The first was a straight up misogynist who looked down on her, the second had a bad tempor. He never put his hands on her, but he would yell and argue with her over just about anything. After about a year my parents got back together. It didn't surprise me since it was literally the third time they had separated since I had been born, but I still didn't know what to think. I ended up deciding that I didn't want to be around it anymore and moved out. Three years later they're still holding together somehow, and I'm still scraping by living with roommates. Sounds like they just want to be miserable together, and I'm glad that you've realized that they are both toxic and it was best for yourself to not be around them. Sucks they can figure out themselves, but as you know that isn't your problem. Them dating toxic people or falling into alcoholism is on them, and I'm glad you are out of that. Live your best life. When Infinity Train Book 1 came and how Tulip got on the train in the first place was revealed, I understood her perfectly and felt like we would’ve gotten along since we possessed similar problems. The lessons are understandable, but are sometimes difficult to commit to. She must’ve been as heartbroken as I was and probably many of you who are the children of divorced parents. The reason that 1:11 hits so hard is the moment before. At first, Tulip's memory is way more dramatic, the room is on fire while her parents scream at her "divorced! divorced! divorced!", Because that's what it felt like to her in that moment. Because that's a lot easier to remember than to except the fact that the worst moment in your life is just a calm conversation between you and your parents in your home, a conversation that would seem utterly mundane to an out-looker, but to you it feels like the floor has been stolen from beneath your feet

My parents divorced around 2002 when I was about 12 years old. That stage when you're first getting into middle-school, classes suddenly get super hard, and everyone is mean is hard enough as it is. I was already a very quiet and shy person. Going back home and dealing with divorced parents and all the fighting made it even worse. It's hurt me more than any bully, bad teacher, or anything I'd ever experienced. You just become angry all the time and become obsessed over whatever form of escape you can find, like Tulip with her game. I literally remember tearing up strips of paper like how Tulip does at 1:35. I can't watch that scene without welling up in tears. I've never seen a cartoon, whether a Japanese anime, or a western cartoon from Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network that handles divorce as well as this or even much at all. They really did their research and I only wish I had someone like Tulip to look up too when I was a kid, but I'm really happy kids today who might be going through a divorce have her and Infinity Train. Growing up, of course I thought about what it would be like to go back in time, or maybe change things somehow like when Tulip was offered a cart where her parents were still together. But I honestly would refuse like she did, because it just wouldn't be real. I feel like it would still have happened no matter what I did because my parents just weren't happy together. I just wanna live in the present and try to make things better and I think that's how Tulip felt too. I'm 32 years old right now. For any kids who might have divorced parents, please know that things really do eventually get easier. It might take years or even decades, but eventually you grow up and have more power to build your own life. You make money for yourself, make friends of your own choosing instead of just whoever from school, and can build a future that's more than just this nightmare. It still hurts me if I think about it really hard, but it's not something that has to hang over your life forever. We still have our entire lives ahead of us!! please be strong, try to go out whenever you can, and don't let this ruin or take away the best part of you. Life is so much more than a tough school and a terrible home life. You're so much more than this and you can still live a fuller and happier life than you can imagine. We've already been through the hardest that life can throw at us and there's only good times ahead now. Like Tulip says, now we're ready for anything. I love you all and we're going to be okay 💖 ~Gabe

Same with Tulip’s line “I can just handle my problems myself! That’s completely different!” Tulip and I are very similar, and I saw myself in her so many times. I’m not a child of divorce, but her repression of her emotions through her interests and resistance to change is what really got to me.

side note during 4:48 you can see tulips number at 62 then next time we see it its 54 in 4:58 so turns out numbers can change simply through your beliefs or thoughts it isn't limited to actions its interesting how she dropped from 62 to 0 in a matter of minutes simply by realizing what she did wrong infact I think its safe to assume no matter how high your number is if you suddenly find that your problems are solved it will drop instantly so maybe Amelia can get off the train sooner than we thought

@@JuanReyes-vb3tj I think its more of simons denial. though its true that he was crying and laughing like he snapped from reality because he himself was horrified over him being willing to kick his best friend off the train despite her saving him. there might have been potential for something to change if he was given time to process since Grace was alive. but he wasnt given that chance and that happens at times. dude needed a strait jacket and ALO of therapy. the train tends to teach you but you mostly figure stuff out by yourself. in the end your sins and problems are turned into numbers to meassure your worth or how bad or redeemable you are or not...but thats still a outside system judging you. like the train/oneone didnt seem MT/Lake as a person even though we know she has value and thinks like a real person. they only got her out of the train on a technicality. the train brought all these kids here and didnt give them proper guidance. sure the train had been taken over but the train was the one who let amelia on the train anyway..not realizing that her grief would make her that determined to change reality and male a car to hide in her delusions to avoid reality. like WE deem simon as completely irreedabl and that he deserves what happened to him after what he did because we know he had opportunities to change his thought process but he chose denial and to avoid reality and dig in his heels. WE saw the moments where he had opportunities to change himself and do better but instead he bunked down. he hurt people WE saw were good or could care about him like Tuba, Hazel and Grace. and he chose to be worse rather than accept the problem or change. but alot of this change was very abrupt for him. Hazel had a impact on Grace e\because they thought she was a normal kid for a while. Grace got attached so when it was revealed she was sort of a denizen it was able to create a proper crack in Grace's mentality. it also helps that the mentality was something Grace came up with on her own and she was forced with the video to comfront the source of her problems until she accepted them. plus amelia has a really high number as well so its from a authorit with a higher number. Simon got to bond with Tube but the problem is that Simon had a strong seed of distrust and betrayal and hurt directly from a denisen he cared about who he trusted. so Tuba being a denisenand we assumed making some progress with simon could have mad a crack in simon and show they are people and wouldnt betray. but its that tuba seems to trustworthy that the betrayal flogs rose for simon because he used to trust and thought samantha was trust worthy as well. he started off around tuba with a closed off heart. and he got these new ideals from the ideas his best friend grace gave him who he put trust in. he should have adjusted and changed to match the changes Grace were going through. but they have wheeled denizens before. they have a system and grace very much approved of that before. and these changes in th status quo and the order if his life upends everything. years of positive reinforment of these ideals being the right thing by grace and the situations is hard to undo. Amelia literally spend years in her plan after taking over the train and she was forced out of her delusion by one one taking the train back over and tulip helping. Simon needed to be forced to accept the situation. and put in a situation where he could ease into it without power because its obvious he'd resist and lash out. him kicking her off the train was both a deliberate choice but also his habit of lashing out and clinging to his hurt still. like a child. just like tulip had years of not really accepting the divorce well. WE dont even know what originally got him on the train really compared to grace. WE saw him genuinely cry after he realized what he did. even if it was follow by over whelmed crazy laughter. leaving her in the tap was semi a death sentence but it was more hands off but kicking her off. and we never found out what would have happened if simon and grace talked after that kick. he literally thought he killed his best friend so it makes sense his numbers went off because she would have died and he knows that. but she also didn't. and as long as you are alive things can change. Grace still cared about Simon and cried after he turned into dust. but the train deemed him a lost cause and got rid of him..like how the train was going to be fine killing MT/Lake if it meant they wouldn't need to deal with adpting the rules. WE are used to judging the humans as reemable or irredeemable based on the numbers now. that if he was killed it must mean there was no more chance that he'd be able to change. the train judged. but we also know the train is very strict and its not really fair that the train chooses who is reemable or who has value and who doesn't. to us simon is a villian, terrible and this is just karma because he refused to adapt and he killed tuba and he tried to kill his best friend. its just easier to have him die irredeemable. his habit is going into denial and digging his heels and humans have a hard time accepting when we mess up. he tried to kill his best friend. would have suceeded if the denizens hadnt helped. if he accepts the denizens are people and can be good he'll have to accept he has been hurting and killing/wheeling people for years. he'd have to accept the mentaliity that kept him going for years was the wrong one and that he hadnt thought for himself and that it was because he trusted grace too much at first. he''s have to realize he did what the cat did and abandoned grace and thir friendship thinking the orginally mentality was more important to protect this that connects to the good memories. but we'll never know if maybe things could have changed is simon and grace talked after the attempted murder since we know he really was distressed about her dying...would he have relief? like there are people who get a unhealthy view and killed loved ones out of jealousy or passion or other stuff. just to realize they were the fucked up ones in the wrong. If the train wasnt so strict and logic based on how it handles their problems. like in the end Grace still cared about simon. it was definitely karma that hit simon...but h was also just a kid/teenager in the end. on the older spectrum of that. but people change over time. and simon wasnt give enough time in the end even if he didnt really deserve forgivness. but sometimes its not about deserve. he definitly snapped and once your crazy and off from reality it makes it harder to fix yourself. but Grace also didnt die so would the relief have changed anything?

I'm also the youngest, although my anger mostly comes from me just being a brat. I try to be better but I have anger issues as I was bullied through out my whole life in school. I may be immature but I can be very wise at times. Everytime something bad happens I go to my own self for advice and my parents even go to me, sometimes my older brother does. If I was Tulip, I would have fully understand, after all I'm a pretty clever person even as a child (I meant clever as in knows very well, not clever as in being intelligent). Also my parents would have killed me if I yell at them. I guess Tulip's parents are more scared that Tulip actually is, they shouldn't be scared of anything. This is their own lives not Tulip's. If they want to get a full divorce then they can, they shouldn't try to make things work for Tulip. They should also not let Tulip yell at them, they should slapped her and tell her off on how she's in the wrong here. What would Tulip do if her parents find new people they fall in love with? Would she tell them off saying "You're not my real mom/dad! I shouldn't listen to you!" Is that it? I still never understood why people get divorced, if they weren't happy then why marry each other? My guess is either they weren't sure it wouldn't work or the condom broke. I want Tulip's parents to yell back and tell her she is wrong. It may be hard for Tulip but it's harder for her parents because they have to deal with an ungrateful brat that they can't stand up to. My nephew went through a similar thing but the difference is that he is very happy, while my parents are no where near separating and I often feel unhappy, it has nothing to do with my life being unhappy but rather that I just don't feel happy even though I have everything. Sometimes I believe once I accomplish my goal I could finally be happy. But sometimes success doesn't cost happiness, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't stop trying to continue my goal. Maybe one day everything will work out for me, but until then I don't know.

You know I'm surprised her number didn't start wrapping around her hand when she said "dont you see !nothing ever changes" that's a much worst case in my eyes than feeling you have caused your parents to divorce cause it's not only that but also every mistake cannot be fixed every wrong doing to you cannot be forgiven

This is a really small little detail but, one of my favorite moments in the whole show is at 2:44, where it seems like she realizes halfway through her speech that the situation is just like the one she’s going through and that she’s actually talking about herself TO herself. Like, you can tell all that just by watching her eyes and it’s a really cool thing:)
