"Let's Have a Battle (Of the Bands)" Instrumental + Backing Vocals (Preliminary TV Audio)

This is a partial removal of the vocals from Let's Have a Battle (Of the Bands) resulting in a "Kinda-instrumental" version. But as you can hear it has A LOT of backing and even lead vocals still in it.
The reason for this is that this audio came from the TV broadcast of EQG:RR on The Hub (oh right... "Discovery Family"...) which, although it was broadcast in 5.1 surround, it was a very lossy encode, resulting in weird bleeding between front and rear channels. What does this mean? Only perfectly centered vocals could be removed, which is only some of the song. The remaining vocals could be turned down but not completely removed. (I also applied a custom stereo enhancing effect because the resulting audio came out in mono (blegh), and I blended the beginning and end with the song from the soundtrack.)
Sadly, this is the only song where it's even possible to get a somewhat-decent instrumental isolation. All the other songs have impossible to remove vocals for the majority of the song. Keep checking this channel around October 28th, when the Blu-Ray/iTunes version is released, which will have cleanly separated audio tracks. (actually, you should probably watch RainShadow's channel. (He'll almost definitely get the BGM up faster than me. / homestar14 ) (But will he have psychedelic, shifting rainbow-colored, ContentID-obscuring, kind of annoying paint splatter effects? I don't think so!)

I love the volume the actual BGM is at right now, so I think this would sound cool with full volume vocals as well. This awesome music doesn't get heard well enough in the original.

Not that bad at all, actually! I had about the same effect on this song trying this with the iTunes official soundtrack copy when that was released, although that was a tad worse since the resulting track was of course mono. The 28th can't come fast enough! :D

As much as I don't like the Dazzling's tricks, the song was still catchy and this version is MUCH better than the one we heard in the sneak peak.

Wonderful. I tried using it with audacity, and it turned out pretty good. ^^ Which, um. I don't know if I'm out of line by asking this, but do you care if I posted it on KZfaq? The Blu-Ray will be out on October 28th (iTunes expects release that same day). That's when we'll get good, super clean audio to work with. I'm not going to attempt any more BGM rips using the TV-Rip. It's just too messy sounding. (Unfortunately I probably won't be able to upload any BGMs until at least the weekend after the 28th, but I'm betting RainShadow will have the BGM rips up super fast!)

Nocte Ensis Well, depending on if there are lots of sounds effects and vocals that need to be removed or masked, it can take anywhere from less than an hour to 4 or 5 hours. (And part of that goes into making the title card/video portion of the upload). *BUT* What usually limits me is actually having time to even work on ripping the BGM. You'll notice I pretty much stopped uploading BGM halfway through season 4, that's because, starting with S4 (maybe S3? I don't remember), they started releasing the iTunes episodes at midnight Monday morning (Sunday night) as opposed to prior seasons which had been released midnight Saturday night. And I started a full-time job just after my last BGM upload (from Pinkie Pride). So while in season 1 and 2, even though I was going to college, I could just stay up really late doing the BGM for an episode since it was saturday night/sunday morning., now since the episodes aren't released until Monday morning, I can't just stay up all night since I have work in the morning :(

The movie soundtrack was on iTunes weeks ago. Also, I want vocals for covers and remixes. I rarely use the BGM.

You need a 5.1 surround source to get true high quality BGM/Vocal isolation. This upload was mostly a test, because while the soundtrack was released in stereo, the movie was broadcast on Discovery Family in 5.1 surround. But, as I discovered it's definitely not high quality discrete 5.1 surround (6 separate channels) because the audio bleeds from front to rear channels and vice-versa. October 28th (blu ray release date) is when we'll get true discrete 5.1 surround, allowing much better BGM and vocal isolation.

Did you learn all of this on your own, or do you have formal audio engineering experience? Most I know about channels is left, right, and middle for when I record guitar tracks for songs.

***** I'm all self-taught on this stuff. I haven't had any "formal" training (like classes or anything), but I do have a lot of experience doing audio engineering, just not in a professional setting. IRL I do all the audio recording/mixing/engineering for the "band" that I'm kind of in, as well as for a lot of short films and stuff I've been involved with. (I did take a few video production classes, so I do have some "training" on the video side, but as far as audio, I've learned everything I know by reading wikipedia, watching youtube videos, and most importantly through trial and error with real life recording.) As for audio channels... there are tons of different audio channel configurations, but the most common are probably 2.0 Stereo (Left & Right), and 5.1 Surround: Front Left, Front Right, Center, Rear Left, Rear Right, and LFE (low-frequency effects/subwoofer). There's also 7.1 surround (same as 5.1 but with the addition of mid-left and mid-right), 2.1 (stereo+sub), mono (one channel), and Dolby's been doing some crazy stuff with Dolby Atmos which basically gets rid of the "channels" concept and instead uses "sound objects" which can be positioned anywhere in 3D space, and it supports up to 64 speaker outputs. I've never had a chance to hear it in action though.

Yeah, I can see where being in a setting where it is useful to know (such as a band or music group) would help. Most I do is solo music with guitar recording and lots of videos show that tracking two hard-panned tracks makes for a more 'full' sound as well as keeping them separate from the drum, vocals, bass, etc. Also seen people who track 4 of the same tracks (hard left/right pan and 70% left/right pan). Other than that, the only other audio stuff I know is basic equalization with frequencies. I'm clueless on the technical stuff you mentioned aside from at least 'knowing' of what they are, just not how it works. Maybe I should look into audio programming since I'm already a software major in school.

***** I was actually a computer science major, even though I found out software programming isn't really my thing. I'm a decent programmer, and can whip up something in C/C++/Java/C# (C# is actually pretty amazing; it's too bad it's limited use when developing for cross-platform). But I like the design and conceptual stuff more than the actual tediousness of programming (some people see the programming part as a challenge to solve, which I understand, but I don't see it that way). Which is why for the games I've made, I use Multimedia Fusion instead of actually programming since, even though its *somewhat* limiting, it allows me to go from concept to creation much more quickly. As for music, I don't really play any instruments, so it just kind of happened that a couple of friends (who can play instruments) wanted to record stuff, and I volunteered to help them do the recording, and I just learned as I went along (I do occasionally contribute some stuff to the musical portion - usually percussion, synth, sometimes even backing vocals... ). We also never stick to just one particular style, so that's also helped to expand my audio engineering knowledge: forcing me to learn new ways to achieve different sounds and effects, etc. For recording electric guitar, We usually use 2-3 mics and sometimes a direct feed, then just mix and pan until we get the sound we're looking for.
