I have a very similar antenna for the marine VHF band. It’s not intended to be something you’d use on a regular basis - it’s a very compact and lightweight way to carry a much more efficient and higher gain antenna than the normal rubber duck as a backup.

To be fair, aren't these usually used with a length of coax and hooked up high for emcomms etc? I have one with about 5m of rg174 on it and it's basically a J pole. Works very well.

I only bought this antenna because I thought the idea was funny. I knew that it wouldn't be very stable mechanically. It reminds me of an ABBREE with a balloon ;-) Thanks for watching and 73 from Austria! Juergen (George) AH6UN / OE4JHW
