Stephen Keshi was an indigenous coach, he was respected. He won African Cup of Nations. He commanded the respect of players, and technical staff. And he was respected by Nigerians. The issue is not indigenous coach, it is getting the right indigenous coach who commands the respect of the players. Get the right person and let him be himself, he will perfom. His six-zone training scheme will not work. The federal and State governments are too corrupt and inefficient. The best method is to work with private academies, select six such private academies for each zone, and form a private-public partnership (by injecting public funds into selected academies to purchase kit and build/lease facilities) leaving management control in private hands with sponsorship from corporate concerns.
