@@robertqueberg4612 My experience with various "offshore " sourced metals is...inconsistencies. One may be softer than a bag of dead mice, the next blank cut from the same bar, harder than a coffin nail. Russian material I have found to be the worse. Obvious hard spots inside the bar, as if it wasn't fully to temp, and not properly stirred.

@@tomb9420 thanks again for sharing. My 1st job at 15yo was machining forgings for 707 landing gear. That further wet my whistle for making things. As far as what was said about CAD causing job losses...I went out a few years later and bought my own 2d drawing software and assured my employment. The precision machine trades have a world of learning and rewarding opportunities for folks who want to progress. Thanks for doing your part in the process!

I did my apprenticeship in the early 1960s in the H.M. Dockyard. The machines here would not even been classed as heavy, as a 4th year apprentice you would be expected to do this work. Most of the real heavy machines dated from the early 1900s where the would be turning parts for capital ships. ie Propellers and their shafts etc. Using twin head lathes and borers with 40ft tables etc. What stopped it in the UK was a running down of the Navy and the dockyards. But mainly Health and Safety, you could not get away with that now. Even so its good to see the old skills being used and it brought back a lot of happy (and some not so) memories. Keep up the good work with the channel.😃

Great video and some nice tips! This is a scary time for new investors but the best thing is not to make decisions based on emotions. This could actually be a good time to buy more of your high conviction stocks or crypto on a discount. Wealth is created during bear markets, not bull markets. If your portfolio is really affecting your mental health then delete the app and go for a walk. Let the market do its thing and have a long time horizon. I buy and just trade long term more than ever, I've made over 14 BTC from day trading with Bryan E Morgan on fed weeks thus is one of the best medium to backup your assets incase it goes bearish.

More than anything this shows how machinist knowledge has gone down with technology, I agree that precision has gone up within the general industry, CAD assisted and all the CNC have made the actual ART of metal mechanics go towards extinction. few modern shops in 1st or 2nd world countries will even touch a job like that, scared of the implications (not even mentioning COST), the eye-opening here is cost, willingness, capacity, and ingenuity. I tell my guys to build a house with the house required precision a road with road required precision a turbine with turbine require precision because if you build a road with turbine precision you will never finish it, and its costs, will make it unpayable, in the other hand building the turbine with house precision will render it inoperable. In a road, 4 inches left to right will not make it Not-usable in a house, up to a 1-inch difference in walls and general concrete will be ok (not that is desired, it is just not a problem) machine shops like in the video, a 1/10mm is not impossible, but difficult to be constant. yes, it all comes to the particulars... To all those critics about the balance finishes and the rest, I have a question, do you know where to Hi-tech transport at the end of the video is taking the shaft? maybe the grinding, polishing, and balancing shop... people always judge by its own condition, few see the entire picture and even then we tend to find flaws more than virtues. I Applaud the capacity of this Master machinist, I see in him what a large portion of us lack (humility and love for what we do) BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO.

Did anyone see any drawings around for the crankshaft? If there were any, the title block would likely state; ALL DIAMETERS +/- 2 BLACK MARKS. The donkey cart is going to the heat treat shop. Then back for stress relief and grinding. It is amazing that the offset fixture did not kill the lathe operator on his way between the “GO” button and the carriage. They do the best that they can with the world’s hand me downs.
