I often hear about germans and dutch that get up and running in Norwegian rudimentary in just 2 weeks. I think it takes a talent for languages, but the stories keep coming. The biggest help is probably just getting dumped in the country so you are exposed to the language all the time.

@@snoozieboi I think learning Germanic languages is especially easy for germans since we understand most germanic words but also have a lot of latin words which makes learning german for other Germanic speakers hard to learn, I am not sure about that tho

@@alexwang6207 Not quite. Interestingly, even though it was indeed composed by an englishman (though there are speculations of a french origin), this melody used to be an international «royal» melody. For quite some time as well. This melody was used in many countries all over Europe, back when «national anthems» were not dedicated to the people, but instead were written to honour their royals. It's just that Britannia, along with Lichtenstein, kept their royal anthem as their national anthem while most european countries changed theirs. If you listen to Lichtensteins national anthem you will hear this exact melody. So this is the old «kings song» that used to be the sung in Norway before «Ja vi elsker» took the spotlight as the national anthem to honour the people as well as the royals. Just felt like sharing :)

Drott is an older general word signifying some form of power, often back in the day it was semi-affectionate. There are writings of different people with a lot of local land or just in control of different regions such as one former admiral who owned quite a bit of a larger western valley whom was referred to as "Vestlandet's største jorddrott" The Western regions largest landowner. Semi-affectionate at times but also respectful.

It's hard to believe that the monarchies that remain intact still hardly connect with their people. Despite spending two years living in London, I have not once seen Queen Elizabeth during that time. Every castle I visited had the Royal Standard flying over it, meaning that she was there, but I never got to see her. However, my family did have a chance encounter with her son, even though this was before he became King. We were leaving the National Gallery, and when my Mom said: "Your Highness," I turned around and saw Charles accompanied by his escort pass us by.

This is a beautiful melody, but it is THE SAME MELODY as... the British anthem "God Save The Queen", and also the same melody as the anthem of... the former GERMAN empire! (emperor Wilhelm II, the one who started the first world war). SINCE WHEN IS THIS THE ROYAL ANTHEM OF NORWAY???? Because I find it very very very strange that 3 countries have/used to have the same melody as anthem!!! AND WHY DO YOU HAVE 2 ANTHEMS IN NORWAY???? (a national anthem and a royal anthem)
@Cta2006
@Cta2006 5 жыл бұрын
The King of Norway is in family with the royal family of Great Britain. King Harald V of Norway is second cousin of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. That is why they use the same royal anthem. Royal anthem: / The honors music for a person, office or rank is music played on formal or ceremonial occasions in the presence of the person, office-holder, or rank-holder, especially by a military band. The head of state in many countries is honored with a prescribed piece of music; in some countries the national anthem serves this purpose, while others have a separate royal, presidential, or, historically, imperial anthem. The national anthem serves as the national anthem of Norway while the royal anthem serves as an honor piece for the head of state.
