Stem length is one of those big deals, and you need to get it right. Stem length effects four crucial areas of cycling: safety, efficiency, comfort, and power transfer. In this episode Jack discusses how stem length effects each of these crucial areas. Watch to the end for a special exercise that will drastically improve the way you sit on your bike.

Understanding Biomechanics and applying it on my cycling is a game changer. I have been riding and racing time trial and having a proper posture when riding my bike is night and day difference. I feel like it's easier to transfer power and it's easy to flash lactic acid because power transfer is pretty balance not just coming from the quads but anyways biomechanics is a real deal. looking forward for more videos sir and keep it up.

Great video Jack . Nice production again . Thanks for the answer to my question. I still wish I can put a longer stem at high speeds I feel my front end shaking. It makes me terrible descender. I would like to try a 100mm stem on an other bike to see the difference. Don't really feel like changing bikes now just for sn extra 25mm stem when I'm not sure if it will even make that much a difference. Thanks

It is not just the stem. As Jack has described, the bike has to be balanced. The other complicated thing is fork trail. I think Jack mentioned it in one of the earlier videos when he compared the System 6 and Synapse. The thing about the components of the bike is that it is like a spider's web. You pull on one part, the rest of the web gets pulled as well. Have the whole bike looked into.

@@stefanomancini6569 there are lots of components to work with. The handlebars are often overlooked. For my short diminutive size, I have 70mm stem but I use a 42cm c-c handlebar to balance things out on one bike. Seatposts are another component. A zero setback seatpost will have you sitting more forward moving your weight away from the rear wheel and more towards the front wheel. So this also alters the weight distribution. There is also adjustability how far forward or backward your saddle is which also adds another layer to the fit and also the handling. Experiment a bit here and there.

I love seeing you on the SystemSix. You need to just go ahead and buy that thing. hahaha What size frame are you? I see tons of em for sale at discount prices. Now that the new Canyon Aeroad seeks to steal some of the Sys6 Thunder, you might even get one for a song.

Hi, I am a beginner looking for advice to purchase my first road bike. Background: My height is 148 cm and my inseam length is 67.8 cm. I have done my research and have set a limited budget to pick up a second-hand bike due to my cycling skills still requiring a lot of practice and improvement. Concern: My ideal bike is an XXXS in Merida (for point of reference). However, that is insanely impossible to find in UAE (part of Middle East). I have however found an XS road bike (Merida Scultura 300) which is still slightly bigger. My main concern is the reach (ideal: around 366MM and current at 373MM) and the size of the handlebars (and the drop curvature is too wide which doesn't let me grip the shifters very well). The current stem length is 100MM and the width of the handlebar is 400MM. Can someone please advise how short can I go on the stem length without affecting the bike handling too much or not at all? Would putting in a 70MM stem affect it too much? Looking forward to some advice. It shouldn't have to be so hard for a short person to upgrade and enjoy cycling 🙁 Thanks in advance!

The white bike looks like at least one size too big for the guy in the red jersey. His arms are stretched out too much, so it must be uncomfortable on longer rides.

If it takes you all day to hit those 40 miles and you make McDonald stops all along the way then it would make sense that you don’t break a sweat.
