Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest annual international team competition in world sport. This prestigious event, which is one of the cornerstones of the tennis calendar, gives players the chance to represent their country in an otherwise individual sport.
Founded by Dwight Davis in 1900, Davis Cup began as a challenge match between USA and British Isles, which was held at the Longwood Cricket Club in Boston.
Davis himself played in the inaugural Davis Cup tie, steering his country to the first of many title victories. USA has won the Davis Cup 32 times - more than any other nation.

Tennis incorporates the entire body into it's motions, and takes an incredible amount of stamina. That said, this is the Davis cup, you're expected to act how you characterize as "hard". If you were to watch a match at one of the four major tournaments (i.e. Wimbledon), the players may not become as worked up.

believe me, i love tennis and have played for a long time. but i play w/ respect for my opponents and agree that it is a gentlemans game. i just view what they do in Davis cup very classless. just my view, take it or leave it.

+gandalfs magic wand I think what you mean is not the players but the audience as well? It has a patriotic feel to it and I agree sometimes when the opponent makes a double fault or an error it doesn't warrant the amount of cheers from the crowd as what is happening now. (same for when my country played against Switzerland last year, I felt embarrassed for my fellow countrymen cheering for mistakes made by Roger)

The very first point tells you a lot about the present state of doubles: spectacular, but poorly executed. Those guys just aren´t natural volleyers. Any top player of the 70s or 80s (let alone before ;)) would have put away those volleys pretty easily.

BULLSHIT! I'm sixty five and lived in those eras you're mentioning and have played tennis since I was nine years old and again I say you're BULLSHIT!

My USTA tennis rating was 4.5 and I played USTA juniors and adult league until my health wouldn't let me continue a couple of years after I started to play seniors. Please tell us what level of expertise do you speak from, as just a spectator?

Lol imagine telling Bob and Mike Bryan that they aren’t natural volleyeurs and would have their strokes countered “pretty easily”.
