Discrimination is discrimination. I have been told "We are not hiring white males." As a teacher, my Asian students faced the same discrimination. The system must be merit based only. Even asking someone's ethnic background on an application should be illegal. A person's ethnic background has noting to do with ability or intelligence. Those are individual talents of the person.

He is reading a script someone wrote up for him. He is just a shell of a president who can be controlled and that is how I see him.

Let's do this in the workplace also, and we can start with the armed forces. .

Now, let's extend the principle of non-discrimination to all of society.

As I was advancing through the ranks in the Navy I went through proficiency reviews at each step of advancement as did my peers. If we met the requirements we were advanced in rank and responsibility. That was then. Now there are "equity" factors involved and God help us all. Standards are lowered in academia and the results are predictable. So the next time you need life saving surgery I hope your surgeon is from the ol' skools: where skills and knowledge came before skin tone and sexuality.

It's time to reward people for their academic results and not their color!

My son had a 3.7 GPA with honors after four years of college. He signed up to another college to further his education and was denied, but a kid my son knew that had dropped out of school in 12th grade got his GED years later and was accepted. A GED over an honor student with a 3.7 GPA. Yeah, it's about time this BS has ended.

It is so based on race that the vast majority of "diverse" candidates got out of their way to trumpet their racial characteristics in their admissions essays. I've been on admissions committees for decades and this process has accelerated in recent years. And the sense of entitlement created is even worse.

So refreshing to observe a Justice come across as an American and not a racist.

He says that they have to meet the criteria. I have a Asian friend who graduated valedictorian. Get passed on a prestigious college. And said institute claimed there was not enough criteria for him too attend. Mind you he also was a presidential scholastic honors recipient among governors scholastic honor recipient. This means he never misses school, maintaining his perfect grades. Volunteered at scholastic events. He wanted to be a doctor and ended up going to inferior institution. And became a doctor but because he went to inferior institution because of this same issue. Even passing all his courses and achieving his doctorate with the highest marks. He still had troubles getting into Hospitals. Because it is the institution you come from that makes the difference. He had to work twice as hard to get into the hospital he wanted to get into 20 years worth and finally got his residency there. This should level the playing field for hard working students that have their dreams in focus and the drive to do it. Institutions can no longer do what has been done to my buddy and I’m stoked for future generations getting this opportunity

When I was in the army, I saw more black men, working on their education on their off time than I saw white guys doing it. We are all just as intelligent as one another, you just got to be willing to put the work in.

You know, I always thought Affirmative Action was systemic racism, but after listening to Biden, by gosh I think I didn't change my mind.

As a black person, I think that affirmative action has outlived its usefulness. We really don't need it to ensure diversity on our college campuses. They can be diverse even without looking at race as THE factor. If we're going to factor race in college admissions decisions at all, it should be a minimal factor, not THE factor. Many colleges still adopt a holistic approach to these decisions, and I expect them to depend even more on it now.

So, we won't be seeing the race boxes on applications anymore? I had to check that box in 1988 and asked my parents why. My father was not a fan and said someday the Supreme Court will end that as it was not right. He was right. I wish he was still here to see it happen.

In 2006 a friend’s son received a full scholarships to University of Texas. The checked box? Latino via his grandfather. He was not top 10%.

I am solo happy about this. I'm retired now but I was part of the "need to fill quota" game. Now people need to prove they really want to learn for the job, are qualified based on knowledge, and have the ability to do the job. Not oh pitififul is me I'm a minority and you have to give me this job. I also remember it was like cutting off a leg to fire a minority regardless of how poorly they were doing the job they didn't qualify for in the first place.

The only issue we have is we have Kids or Young adults entering the work force who cant read or even read Cursive Writing. Great example was a man had his letter returned because the post office could not read cursive. But that is strange since your zip code that is in numbers are not done in cursive for getting it to the town and address. They can't read numbers also??

We have all been scammed by the Federal "Department of Education" and federal meddling in "higher education". The results have been catastrophic.

ACT and SAT hasn't been required in some time. I have been in higher Ed. for 3 years and have seen many students who aren't ready for the work. It's all about meeting quotas!

My 2.66/4 GPA and 16 ACT score got me into Purdue's business school in 2006. I remember talking to my peers and they told me how hard it was for them to get in the same business school while it was a breeze for me

Programs that give preference to under qualified applicants due to race in colleges, universities and government/ civil service jobs was the beginning of our dominance as a country. It began the acceptance of mediocrity in our country as rewardable. And, is a huge cause of the polarization of the United States. Having lost job opportunities as a young man due to the color of my skin was very frustrating.

Affirmative action was alive and well in the military during the 90's. I applied for the warrant officer program that had 1267 other applicants vying for 6 openings. I placed #3 but didn't get one of the 6 openings because the DOD wanted the officer Corps to "more closely resemble the enlisted ranks". Of course due to socioeconomic reasons the enlisted ranks are heavily populated with minorities.

I find it sad that our president doesn’t understand the constitution and the balance of power within our judicial system.

This has served to compromise the quality of our graduates. Black students with far lower GPA's and test scores have been admitted to colleges over other students with a 4.0+ GPA. Black male graduation rate is around 30%. How have we helped our country by doing this?

I'd like to hear a real life example of an admissions board member deciding who can attend their school. Instead all I hear are some imaginary scenarios that can't be proven. Do they actually tell the student: "you may attend our college because you are black"

I ran a faculty in South Africa in the 1980s, and admissions was part of my job. What Biden says is total horseshit. All sorts of criteria were used to admit woeful candidates, few of whom made the grade. At least one was admitted purely by virtue of the name of a sponsor, with strong political connections. Examination board meetings changed fsils into passes, with at least one academic calling, with respect to a particular student one course shy of getting a very bad social science degree one year shy of mandatory exclusion from studies, 'Will someone please change a mark so he can graduate, I don't want to see this student again'. And re another student who had not managed to meet the lowered standard of passing half the required courses after two years, and had to be excluded from future studies, 'We cannot exclude him now, WE have wasted two years of his life'. Then there was fiddling of the examinations system. Multiple choice examinations were banned 'because Black students don't pass them'. Leaving subjective marking of essays the only option. Then the percentage of marks allocated to coursework as opposed to examinations was steadily increased, reducing the importance of examination success. And the biggest insult was allowing the affirmative admissions students to defer any examination for three months without any motivating grounds. So they deferred every second examination to get the extra swot time. And more importantly, since deferred examinations were held barely two weeks before admissions for the next academic year, the marks were available only days before the admissions process, and having usually failed even these examinations the students tugged at the white guilt heart-strings of the academics that the lateness of their being informed of failure had cost them alternative opportunities: usually this resulted in readmission anyway. The result is today there are people walking around with degrees they should not hold, misleading the world as to their capabilities. The worst got at least two years of living in residence for free, with all tuition also free. Still a win. After three years of this the long-established foundation used to financially support deserving students was bankrupt, and those who had received loans made no attempt to repay them. If course the degrees are only worth anything if a pretence is maintained that they indicate the same level of ability as in previous years. That is clearly not the case, and the univerdity uses whatever rating systems it can find to maintain the fiction. What is clearest is the decline in graduates in all subjects that require real ability and application, like the sciences and engineering, and an explosion of worthless social science degrees making up the bulk of graduates. My old university, where I earned my degrees, is now little more than a bush college, and I have cut all my links with it. Yet in my undergraduate days, at an institution of the same name and in the same place, I was one of seven students in an Enhlish tutorial, where the tutor was a future Nobel Prize winner. That is unlikely to ever be repeated there. That is what affirmative action did.
