Resistance bands can be a valuable tool in your horses fitness regime, but before choosing any new exercise regime for your horse you should confirm with your veterinarian or professional body worker that there is no contraindications to applying these exercises to your individual horse. Conditioning an athlete for sport involves more than just the ridden work, utilizing activations and isometric type exercises can help with postural balances as well as develop more core and stability muscles making the horse not only more ready for your sport but also more prepared for the extreme forces that can be undergone during your sport. A wise veterinarian once said, “we as horse trainers and riders need to condition our horses for the sport we want to do, not do the sport to create the condition the horse needs. Fitness is a multi facetted activity, encompassing multiple modalities to create the depth of strength that we need in these athletes.
