UNDERRATED?? That blows my mind. I was born in 83. And where I'm from, north of Sweden, this was the biggest hit of the 90s. This was the song everyone heard the most, played the most. At least among the kids. U know, in the era that was the peak of pop music, where they sold the most singles. So, in my eyes and ears, nothing will ever be as big as this one song. And it played for like 7 years. It just would not go away ever. Now, tell me. How can that be UNDERRATED? Not as a song or a single, surely. That is impossible. Like calling Michael Jackson underrated as an artist. U must mean something else. Maybe its underrated as something else and u just didn't have the time to explain?

In Upstate Ny we use to skate to this song in the 90’s. And this song is still the shit!!! It’s crazy how they use some of the 90’s songs for commercials now it brings me back to my late teenage years tho.

"Here Comes the Hotstepper" contains several samples, including vocals from "The Champ" by The Mohawks (1968), "Hot Pants" by Bobby Byrd (1972), and "La Di Da Di" by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick (1985). The song's instrumental samples the drums and bass from "Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner (1981) and guitar notes from "Hung Up on My Baby" by Isaac Hayes (1974). The song uses the "na na na na na..." chorus from the Cannibal and the Headhunters version of "Land of a Thousand Dances" (1962), and the verse vocal melody is reminiscent of The Beatles' "Come Together", which was inspired by Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me". This remix of this song is called the "Heartical Mix", because I like this version of the song all the time. This uses various clips & scenes from the movie Ready to Wear (Prêt-à-Porter), which came out the same year as this song. I was in Germany in the mid 90's, likely by mid August 1994, when the song came out.

Danke schön fur die informationen und sharing. Ja, das ist eine soundtrack der Pret a Porter von Robert Altman in 1994. A nice film, which many film critics considered it one of the weakest of Altman's films. Whatever. Being one of Altman's die hard fans, i saw the film several times when it came out in 1994. I think it was quite entertaining, amusing, weird, silly and oh yes, amazing to see those famous faces (on characters and as themselves) talking chatting bantering amusing each other, all those overlapping that could only happen on Altman's films😂

That era had more funk. I think that's the main difference. More cool basslines, nice simple drums, a good soul clap and lyrics to sing along. I think most music back then was really meant to be danced to. Nowadays it all has some weird themes and rarely it is about having fun. Miss the positive vibes.
