I went to Inis Mor exploring the rock climbing potential in September 2017. I don't have time to be much of a climber but do have a geography degree from many years ago so maybe I can explain why the place could be so amazing for sport climbing. The island is one huge canted slab of Carboniferous limestone about 10 miles long and 2-3 miles wide, with just some grass and a few houses on top. On the eastern (facing Ireland) side the limestone dips smoothly into the sea, but on the western (facing the Atlantic Ocean) side there is a continuous line of cliffs from the top to bottom of the island. At the highest point, near the Dun Aonghasa prehistoric hill fort, the cliffs are about 100m high. On the west coast there's only one place where you can access sea level by foot - at the Serpent's Lair where they did the Red Bull cliff diving. The limestone varies a lot in how fractured it is, which determines how resistant to erosion it is. On the top couple of miles of the west coast coast the rock is very fractured and not very solid and so the cliffs are only vertical. But further down the west coast the rock has far fewer flaws and thus much more structural integrity. The ocean breaks along the bottom of the cliffs and dissolves the limestone (very slowly) by chemical weathering, obviously more at the bottom (more waves and spray) than further up the face. Thus it naturally ends up overhanging. I think the winter storms must also remove loose rock. Where there were natural recesses the waves became more concentrated causing chemical erosion to occur faster, with the result that you end up with the cave like shapes mentioned in the video where the solid rock, 50 metres high, overhangs continuously by 30 degrees. Which to me looked like awesome places for high level sport climbing projecting.

The Earth never ceases to amaze me. I had never seen this island and it's so much nice and flat rock until the big jump into the ocean. So nice.

This place is impressive. I'm a climber myself and I'm afraid of height (but I feel secure when I'm climbing safely). I have been once to visit the Cliffs of Moher, but I think these are even more impressive! I was so scared to look down, I was laying completely on the ground like a worm, with just my head over the edge. You need to go there and see yourself, I will never forget.

I wonder why no one complains about bolted route on inis mòr, if you bolted anything in the island of Ireland people would lose it at you. They have this attitude that you should go to Spain to sport climb. On another notes this rock looks bulletproof and fun.
