This video was inspired by jenniescrafts on KZfaq. This ink pad storage piece is created from Foam Core Board and metal tape. This storage unit is sturdy and will hold all of your ink pads without falling apart from the weight.
Foam Core Board can be found at your local craft/hobby store or purchased online. The metal tape can be found at your local home improvement center. Ask for "Aluminum Tape" or metal tape. This is NOT the vinyl duck tape.
Construction of the storage unit is fairly easy. The lightweight Foam Core makes it easier to work with since it is not a heavy furniture piece.
You can spray paint the foam core if you wish to.
Detailed construction instructions can be found on my blog:

This is the best video I've discovered so far for making a unit to store ink pads. I decided ages ago to make one from foam board which is a lot more rigid than cardboard and will give a more professional finish. I think I would do it with hot glue, though. One of the best parts is how you made the interlocking uprights and shelves. I'd like to incorporate small square sections for storing re-inkers alongside the pads, too, and maybe some drawers for odds and ends. Thanks for sharing! Brilliant!

I LOVE this tutorial as I am really not able to purchase a a shelf for my inks. You have inspired me to make my own. I will try my best to make it look as good as yours does. You are very talented and witty. What I LOVE THE MOST if the fact that you left all of your "boboos/difficulties" in the video.. you know, when the tapes wouldn't let go of your fingers or when you accidently drop the piece of foam core onto the sticky tape. It made me chuckle (lol) and know that I'm not the only one who does things like that...THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING! ! From: Kathleen...New Brunswick, Canada

I have limited space. I have my ink pads mainly in 1"cubes. I used 4x6 photo boxes, added a folded paper towel in the bottom to help them from moving around. I store all distress inks and all Papertrey Ink inks in a photo storage case with room to spare. The case tucks neetly under my desk.

You are a star just what I was looking for! I know this is an old video but I’ve only just found you. Honestly I haven’t paper crafted in seven years due to RA so I’m well out of touch with it all and just getting back into it now I can use my hands a bit better. I’ve been making soap and bath goodies for a few years but just treated myself to some ink pads and stamping toys so I’m very excited to get playing. Thank you!! Xx

@messageinafold
@messageinafold 8 жыл бұрын
Mother Brown, please forgive the tardiness of my response to your comment. I never thought about putting a door on my ink pad holder. Hmmmmmm, you might have to take a stroll through a hardware store for lightweight hinges. Four of them. You would then need to have four (or more) large washers with a small hole in them. Get some nuts and bolts to fit the hinge holes. The big washers are to give support through the foam core when you put the nuts and bolts on so they don't pull right out of the holes and your doors fall off. The giant washers will go on the inside walls and hopefully be hidden. Hope this helped you think about a way to make a door for your storage unit. Leslie

Thank you for your comment. Excellent ideas you have to incorporate the re-inkers along side the stamp pads. Also your drawer idea would be beneficial as well. As to hot glue.....I don't use that product much in my crafting because I always get myself burned and blistered so I tend to shy away from it. The heat from the hot glue will melt the Styrofoam that is sandwiched between the paper. That is why I chose to use the tape. Thanks again. Leslie

Indeed, you can decorate the outside in any fashion you would like. If you are industrious you can even cover the inside back, the vertical supports, and the shelves. Hot glue lace or other use washi tape to cover the cut edges. I'm not that industrious :/ Thank you for leaving your comment, I appreciate you. Leslie

+Cheri H Thank you, Cheri H, for watching my ink pad storage video and leaving a comment. I abhor the hot glue gun, in fact I HATE the thing. If you like using that blasted thing it does work well with foam core board. For your Copic Marker question, the diamond shaped boxes will need to be built in a different manner. You would need to have one box made to your specifications, the rest of the boxes would require three sides to join with the first one....across and up and down. It seems that you have a handy husband, he might have a better way of creating your Copic storage or be able to finesse my description to get the results you desire. Thank you, again. I appreciate you. Leslie

Thank you, Vanessa, for your comment. Frankly, I was winging it when I made all of these - ink pad, spritz, and refills. When I had some success with the ink pad storage then the other two went together better. As for a template. I will have to decline on one major issue. I don't know how many ink pads you have and how much (or little) space you have in your craft area. You can visit my blog - messageinafold.wordpress.com - and check out the blog post I did. That will show you how I measured and came up with my design. That is the best that I can do for you. Sorry. Leslie

@messageinafold
@messageinafold 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Janette, for watching my video on creating ink pad storage out of foam core. Thank you for your question, as well. The reason for the differences in 1 inch and 2 inch is.....the 1 inch on the vertical pieces is for the height of each ink pad - which are somewhere around 1/2 inch in height. The 2 inch for horizontal is to accommodate the width of the ink pads. Some are more wider than 2 inches so I had to make allowances for the wider ink pads. I hope that answered your question. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and leave a comment. Leslie
