I actually have a situation that I would like to speak to a tattoo artist about. Last month, I had made an appointment with an artist at a local shop for myself and a friend to get matching tattoos. This was going to be my very first tattoo. I was so excited and couldn’t wait. The day before we were supposed to get them, I woke up with some allergy type symptoms and I just brushed it off to be actual allergies because I had messed with the fireplace the night before and the ash dust had filtered up my nose a little. I didn’t have a fever so I just took some allergy meds and let it go. Well, the next day, the day we were supposed to get inked, I woke up and realized I couldn’t smell a thing, so I went to get tested for Covid as soon as I could. Sure enough, I tested positive. I was so upset because I knew I had to cancel my tattoo appointment. When the shop opened up, I called immediately and told them the situation. The girl who answered told me that they usually require 24 hours to cancel appointments other wise we forfeit the deposit, but because this was a Covid issue and I had called as soon as I could, they would let me use the same deposit for a later date as long as it was the same artist and the same tattoo design, which I have no problem with that at all. Well this was in the middle of last month. We are out of quarantine and feeling much better, so I called today to reschedule our appointment. And I was directed to the guy who I was supposed to get the tattoo done by and he is refusing to reschedule me unless I paid another deposit, definitely not what I was told before when I canceled. I made sure he knew I had Covid and I was trying to do the right thing and not expose anyone else and he just isn’t willing to work with me. So what am I supposed to do now? Just cut my losses of the deposit? If the guy had of already drawn something up for me I wouldn’t mind him keeping at least some of the deposit for his time and artwork, but he hasn’t even done that. Is this how they are supposed to conduct business during a pandemic? At least I was thinking of other’s health. I could have just went and did the tattoos anyway and say nothing but I’m an honest and nice person. Any suggestions? Thank you!
