I will show you how to correct the scaling/sizing issues that can occur when you upload your project into Cricut Design Space. We'll also cover how to set default settings so you don't have to make these adjustments every time you use Inkscape prior to uploading to Cricut Design Space.

There is a much, much easier way to save your default document settings that does not involve going into those "backend" folders. Once you have your document settings set up correctly, simply do the following: File > Save Template > Name your template & add any info you might want in the box that pops up > Click the box that says "Save as default template" > Click on Save. Task completed!

sorry i know this is old... but where does the template save to? i dont see it as an svg in my same folder to upload into design space

@@shadebashorun6415 The template is not something to upload into design space - it is not an svg. It is just used as a set of instructions to be sure your image will be sized correctly when you save the svg you create. You can designate where you want to save your svg file after it is created. I personally have a folder named "svg files" on my computer and that is where I save my svg files. I would then navigate to that folder when I am ready to upload it to Design Space.

Its a tad different with a PC, i had to change the file named “default” as opposed to “default.svg”

Did all of this and it is still uploading into Cricut at 300 or more inches, I just resize it and put it in the right location. Years ago I had no problem with Inkscape, but the newer updated versions, still having trouble. Thanks for this great tutorial though!😃

@London Girl Crafts.....Thank you for providing this tutorial! It has been quite intimidating trying to learn this program with no guidance. Your direction has taught me so much in navigating on measurements which was a challenge. I do have a question, if we are running the windows program.....I don't have the "finder" option that the MAC has. How can we change the default in the Windows platform to default all future creations?

Hey! Thank you so much for your kind words 😍 For Windows follow this file path : Local Disk (C:) -> Program Files -> Inkscape -> Share -> Templates Find the file titled default.svg and replace that as in the video! Let me know if this helps 🥰

I just installed the latest version of Inkscape, 1.3.2. I followed your instructions and changed the Inkscape document size to 12x12 inches, scale 72 but when I uploaded the 5 inch square SVG to Cricut DS, it measured 5.18 x 5.18 inches. Are you experiencing this problem with latest version of Inkscape too?

That's great. Thank you for sharing it. Do you also know how to create score lines so they don't change to basic cut lines once the SVG has been uploaded to Design Space? I was using object properties but don't seem to work anymore. :(

Thanks! Ah score lines is a great question! From what I’ve seen it’s complicated and you have to use the xml editor - I have yet to try it myself actually. You wouldn’t want to be changing it to a score line within Design Space?

@@RabiaKhans I used to be able to convert the line to score in Inkscape and when the svg was uploaded to design space the lines were ready as score but it does not work anymore :(

With Cricut Design space 7.0.5 Using Inkscape document properties W 12 X H 12 and scale set at 72 Saving as SVG then opening it in Design Space the project does not open correctly, it is way too big. Is there another fix to be able to open in right size? thanks

Hey! Ah yeah annoyingly this method can sometimes stop working if cricut does an update to design space. The other option you can try is adding a 12x12 inch box to your design in Inkscape - then resize that back to 12x12 in design space xx

Has anyone reported this not working for them? I'm following your instructions step by step. I've even completely shut down my computer and recreated the inkscape document from scratch but every time when I import to DS it changes the size.

Hello! Yes I have heard of this not working- it was fine at the time of recording but as Design Space goes through so many updates this method isn’t working for some. Have you tried adding a 12x12 inch square around your design? So that even if DS opens your design at the wrong size you can fix it by getting that square back to the correct size? Just remember to group everything when you save in Inkscape! So that it all scales together. Hopefully that helps! 😊

@@RabiaKhans I was on the latest version and it had so many bugs and caused me so many issues, that I uninstalled it and re-installed my .91 version which is so much more stable.

Ohh noo that’s so annoying. I’m on latest version (1.0 I think at present) and it’s been fine for me 🤷🏽♀️ I wonder if I just send you a document template as an svg you could save that as your default? Let me know am happy to send it across 🙂

@@RabiaKhans Thank you for offering to do that. Very kind of you! I'm not sure that would work however since that wouldnt lock in the scale/ratio. At least I don't think so. I might do a Google search to see where the "scale" sizing is in my version. Thank you again however.

I have actually been saving as an Inkscape svg and it’s been fine. I’ve seen some ppl recommend saving as plain which also works so either seems fine! 😊

Hey! Yes there’s been a recent issue ever since the last Design Space update 😭 can you try following the same steps as in the video but also In Document Properties hit the ‘resize page to drawing or selection’ button in the orientation box?

Hey Alice - just wanted to follow up on the above as I just tried it without success 😭 I managed to fix it by also adding a 12x12 box (converted to a path) as the bottom layer of my Inkscape image - uploading the full image with this box means it is all correctly to scale. Let me know if that makes no sense lol 😂 😀
