Athlete turned motivational speaker Inky Johnson joins The Pivot in an inspirational and touching conversation. Known for his motivational talks and being a man admired by many for his enthusiasm in life, perspective on challenges and making the most of every situation, Inky talks about what helped shape him into the man, husband and father he is today.
Sharing the details of the unforgettable day where a routine play on the field changed his life forever, Inky describes the moment he realized he would never be able to play football again. Taking us through the exact play on the field to waking up around his teammates realizing he couldn't move to the urgency of the ER doctors when he realized he may not make it...this conversation carries so much emotion and powerful moments that will be life altering.
An emotional Ryan, Fred and Channing ask how he has been able to recover and stay so positive when the sacrifices have been so great. Looking at his injury as a life blessing has been hard but also rewarding in making the pivot and finding his purpose.
Along the journey, the people and many athletes Inky has impacted have been numerous from his time on coaching staffs to now touring as a speaker. In particular, Inky opens up about his close brotherhood with former NFL standout Eric Berry who wore #29 in honor of Inky and the two remained close as Inky overcame his own obstacles and in turn, he was there to help Eric through his cancer fight and returning to the field.
Inky stresses that we may not be able to control our circumstances but we can control how we adapt, adjust and move forward...always willing to be stronger than the strongest excuse. A new episode of The Pivot drops every Tuesday at Noon eastern and special drops on Friday afternoons.

Man I really needed this. 2020 I got shot up and ended up losing my right arm. Was in the hospital for 2 months having surgeries every 4-7 days and getting blood clots. Had to learn how to walk and use the bathroom all over again. Would drink my days away to numb the phantom limb and emotional pain. Even got to a point that I no longer felt like a "man" and actually attempted suicide by overdose and would have been successful if a friend didn't find me slump in the car. Of course I had to be Baker's acted and ended up going to a treatment center, but I've been without a drink since February 6th of this year and yeah some days are rougher than others, but I can do this shxt. And my son still accepts me regardless, says my prosthetic is like ironman lol. But appreciate y'all man ✊🏾💜 *Edit post comments* I really appreciate all of the uplifting and support, really got me in here tearing TF up... along with starting a new remote job last week, I'm starting to feel alive again. Can't thrive depending on disability ya know. But may we all not only survive, but prosper through our pivots 🙏🏾💜🙌🏾

But when I found him on one of radio shows everyday I listened to before work and would give his INKspiration(what I called it lol) man it really mad me follow him close. Because if I want my 2 sons listening to anything or anyone it's this guy will explain, inspire them, and instill how to be a stand up individual, it's this man. Man I relate so much to this interview. In college I cut my main artery in my right arm. I almost bled out and left me dead by a terrible decision I made through emotions. I had to have a graph from my right leg to put into my arm. Had serious nerve damage and was told by doctors I would never use my right arm again. My story changes to me being able to finish college football and playing professional indoor football. I now have started a fitness company that’s inspired by my past injury. The thunderbolt within my logo resembles the scar that’s on my arm. It’s my lifeline to remind me how far I’ve come. Inky I appreciate your words and I’m a walking testimony of being grateful

This joint right here hit different for whatever reason. This is my new favorite episode, hands down. I’m very familiar with Ink’s story and speeches, but the fellas were able to pull back some layers on Ink that showed a different part of Ink. Job well done fellas. Ink’s words resonated with my soul. Grace and Gratitude. Extend grace to yourself and to others and be grateful for the small things in life. Everyday my mission is to make it back home to my family. That doesn’t get lost on me. When Ink said that at the end, I said to myself, “This cat gets it.” Well done Team Pivot! You gotcha a certified banger with this one! 💪🏾✊🏾🙏🏾

I got to see Inky speak live in person in a small room when I was in PA school. This was 8+ years ago, he was known in that area (TN) but I don't think he was known outside of that region much yet. But he delivered big time. Happy to see he's having so much continued success. Solid dude, no doubt.

Let’s fucking go just found him the other day. Guy makes me want to run through a wall. The way ray lewis and Brian’s Dawkins did when I played football.

Inky greater than the game. We needed his mind and energy over his plays on the field.

This episode made me think about when I had a brain stroke. 5yrs ago this month. I were 29 at the time it happened on my job at my peak in life. Everything was going very well and next thing I know I wake up weeks later confused on what happen to me and why I’m at my moms house. Thinking I supposed to be at work. And I’m screaming out to my mom like hey why I’m here and what’s going on . She was like you don’t remember what happened to you a couple of weeks ago . I replied no what happened she was like you had a brain stroke at your job and I broke down in tears because I knew right then my life was completely derailed. Went from 100 to 0 right before my eyes. I’m blessed to be alive and well I can still do most of everything I use to. I took from this episode. When things happen it’s either going to build you to be better or break you .

How is it possible to be blown away so frequently by guests on a podcast? Fred, Shannon and Ryan you are outstanding! Once again, you did that thang. You, my brothers, are to be lauded. Inky Johnson was an inspirational guest on the Pivot; Thanks for creating a space for athletes and non-athletes alike to experience exactly what it means to "find your voice."

Man, this was my favorite one yet, and I say that after every show. But man, as a Tennessee fan, having watched that exact game with Ink, how heartbroken I was as an Ink fan that he had this injury, the first time I saw video of one of his speeches it made me proud to see him thrive as much as he has. Even though we've had down years pretty much every year since he got injured, it is Inky and his perseverance and motivation to be his own best makes me proud to rep the orange and white!

I’m not going to go into my story, but I was in a similar situation back on 01/10/15 whenever I broke my neck in a car wreck. That was one of the hardest things I have ever been through and made it out not paralyzed. I have had the ups and downs and had to depend on my wife to take care of me. I salute you Inky and keep on motivating the youth.

I like Inky Johnson and what he doing is good for people. To show people how to deal with things when bad things happen. I'm too a motivational talker myself. But I do it with mental health here in Greenwood, MS. I have a mental illness and I have been dealing with it since I was 11. I also played football for the Delta Blaze from 2013-2017. We won a championship in 2013. I was told that I was too old to play but I did. Inky, I have much love for you and hope that you continue to touch lives as you did me. May God continue to bless you and your family.
