I was assigned to the Seabees in South Vietnam in 1970 - 1971. In addition to our standard small arms (M16A1 assault rifles, M79 grenade launchers, M1911A1 pistols, 12-gauge pump shotguns, and M60 machine guns), we also had quite a few M2 models (had an automatic fire option, unlike the M1). These were very easy to shoot, keep clean, and take with us on the road in a jeep or truck. I learned how to field-strip and shoot it (and the venerable but still awesome Thompson submachine gun!) on a visit to a Seabee team working in Ben Tre province, in the Mekong Delta. In the jungle/rice paddie environment where we drove and worked, the M2 carbine was a valid choice (so was the Thompson, for that matter, which used the same ammo as our M1911's). Nice weapon. Should have purchased a surplus one in the 1970's!

Hope your dad is still alive, brother. My dad was also a marine and a top turret gunner in a PBJ in the 413th Marine bomber squadron in the Northern Solomans in 1944. Hickock has almost all the weapons my dad was issued on his table, the M1 carbine, 1911A1 almost everything, with the exception of the Bendix turrret with the dual 50 cal machine guns . We and all future generations stand on the shoulders of those remarkable men. "Semper Fidelis" defines them all.

I have a bunch of M1 Carbines that I purchased through CMP when you could pick them up off the shelf. A beat up rack grade Winchester followed me home from Aniston one day and while the stock was shellacked, the metal was a beautiful grey park and the barrel measured a zero. The stock was stripped and found to be a beautiful couple pieces of walnut, and that rifle has earned me a few metals during CMP vintage war rifle matches.. I love shooting the Carbines!! I dug my IBM out the other day to shoot and enjoy.. Thanks for this chapter 2!!!

Love my little M1 Carbine. Bought it from then my future father-in law for $60 in 1981. He had 2, one he carried in WW2 and the one he sold me. Not sure how many rounds it had through it before I got it but, I've sent a couple thousand thru it in the last 30 plus years! Thanks for sharing.

My dad carried one as a forward observation team radio operator during a number of campaigns in the Pacific: New Guinea, the Solomons, Marshall Islands and Guadalcanal. His team went behind Japanese lines to select targets. He said that sometimes Japanese patrols would pass within mere feet of his team as they hid in the jungle foliage. Later, when he was a master sergeant in the Air Force, he continued to qualify with the M1s carbine. About 15 years ago I managed to luck into a nice Rock-Ola at a gun show. I still have it---and would not trade it for anything!

Enjoyed the video, looks like a nice correct WWII carbine, still has the high wood stock. I’ve had a lot of M1 carbines over the years but all were post war rebuilds. I buy and sell stuff and last year I was in a house and people told me they had a gun in the attic. Go look at it and it’s an about mint 100% correct WWII inland Carbine dated 1943! Had to hide my excitement but I almost fell over. Was in the original canvas case, with original stock magazine pouch with two magazines loaded with Lake City ammo dated 1943 Family told me their father sent it back during the war. I bought it for a very good price. Only thing it didn’t have a sling or Oiler for some reason but I found a correct one at a gun show but had to pay high for them ( $70) I’ve found slings for $5 at flea markets before but sold them

Back about 10 years ago the CMP brought back a bunch of carbines from Italy. I was fortunate to pickup 4 complete rifles (Inland, Rock-Ola, Underwood and Winchester) and one very low 6 digit number Inland barreled receiver which I completed from parts. Back then parts were available at all of the gun shows and was relatively easy to rebuild your carbine "all correct". Military magazines were one of the hardest items to find that were "correct" for your carbine (wood stock being another). A couple of months ago, S&G Sales found a bunch of original magazines new in the wrap. You could pick your choice of mfg. Picked up 10 matched to my carbines. Never expected that.

In the air defense artillery unit I was in, in the 1960's, these are what we had instead of the M-14. Under the Civilian Marksmanship Program, again back in the 60's, the NRA sold surplus M-1 carbines for $20. I was smart enough to buy one, and then stupid enough to sell it a few years later. My favorite moment in hickok45 history was during the chapter 1 when you shot the turkey and the .30 hammered it down. You just paused...and it was clear you were surprised by the hitting power of the round. I've watched the chapter 1 many times and hope to get one of these some day.

I have an Inland M1A1 and a Quality Hardware that has a tactical stock. Both have had Wolf replacement spring kits and are extremely reliable. I have 15 and 30 round mags, I prefer to carry them with 15 round mags as it streamlines the rifle. With a vest you can put 30 round mags in the pouches switch out when the 15 runs dry. I use 110 round nose soft points projectiles.

I love my Underwood barrel dated 1943, it's been through the armory refurbishment so it has the adjustable rear sight. Also the 30 round magazine does hold the bolt open after the last shot.

Haha, carbine that could be used in battle! The M1 Carbine's recoil feels very unique to me and I like it a lot.

As much as this is my favorite gun, I hate bringing it to the range! I wind up loading mags for my wife while she shoots all my ammo! After reading some of the comments I decided to add that I got mine in 86 for under 200 dollars in a crate with two 15 rounders, manual. 43 inland flat top four pin.
