I bet youll be a better rider than many and youd be blown away, very impressed by the stability of a big wheel like the v13 would be. Does take a little time to adapt to more weight but oh yeah. If i were giving advice its go small first and build up to experience wobble, tilt back and other effects at 5mph not 50mph. Youll ride way better and hopefully live to ride after lunch to. Ive got a z10 and i thought it was big, and it was comming from a airwheel. Z10 is impressive, My old z10 still speeds good and goes for hours of speeding fun. I like the tilt back works fine on mine and its not cut out yet. Left sitting it self flattens over time which helps with keeping the battery cycling so i give it a bit of a charge every week or so just to keep it cycling. I was so impressed with z10 i got more wheels later. I still have z10 i think its cool.

My 84 volt V11, and my 100 volt V12 get similar range. The V11 has a smaller watt motor, smaller volts, smaller battery, and less weight. V12 scaled up everything bigger - but the added weight, more current, bigger motor counters the range. Now seeing the V13, everything is scaled again, and similar range. Putting this equation together, as the InMotion wheels evolve, the range is constant, but how fast you can get to your destination is where the money is going. Speed is literally dollars. It would be fun to calculate dollars/mph/kph) - It would be a fun new factor in analyzing wheels.

So, as long as you're don't going anywhere that's 31 miles round-trip, you're good. Because having to wait to charge after that destroys any speed $$ savings. Or you could get another wheel. Not to mention plenty of research shows speeders have virtually barely any time advantage to non speeders.

All the comments I have seen (including Ian) are assuming that this unit is "representative" to all the other V13 (despite at least missing a piece). A common problem is the tendency to consult friends and social media rather than the manufacturer directly. Since V11, Inmotion has provided a "Remote Calibration" feature that sets the voltmeter values using the app as a bypass to a technician at Inmotion that checks the vehicle's calibration. To my knowledge, V13 has added this approach also for the BMS. At higher wheel diameter, we expect a higher "resistance" to acceleration demanding more energy. Something that with other EUC has resulted in easily induced cutoff. While when cruising without many speed changes it should provide an advantage in energy efficiency. So in general I would expect that driving style should have an impact on range proportional to the wheel's diameter. However, I would like to see Inmotion checking if everything is ok with Ian's V13. It is worth to check it before drawing general conclusions.

@@pacochawa2746 Not completely. I ride my master less because I can't do half the rides I want to take it on, because the range is too low. Once you get used to riding distances, going out for a short 10 mile ride or something starts to lose its appeal. I do love speed and pushing the master hard, but its the commander I reach for most often right now. And thats the high torque model which barely does 35mph. I definitely feel the speed restriction, but its worth it

One thing to keep in mind is that these lithium ion batteries are going to give you about 30% less range overall when the weather is that cold. I believe he said six degrees celsius, so that is going to take a massive toll on your overall battery. It is absolutely a significant difference, so the same type of riding in the summer would probably have yielded in the neighborhood of 45 to 50 mi. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Ian got around 47 or 48 miles on the Abrams with hard riding. That's about what I get on mine when I ride hard, but when I ride conservatively I get well above 60 mi. When I ride the Abrams without going above 25 mph, I always get well over 65 mi. I would guess that you could do the same with the v13. So having the Headroom to achieve very high speeds for short bursts while maintaining much lower speeds for typical riding, which is the way most people ride, I would guess that it's about a 60 mile wheel.

@sammysokosammysoko Жыл бұрын
@@dewaynelowery8511 Its closer to 15lbs difference (Abrams is approximately 95 lbs) but it does have 350 more watt hours than the Abrams. And that higher voltage is only going to really matter at higher speeds. At low sub 30mph speeds it is pretty insignificant. For instance, Flyboy EUC did a 20 - 22mph range test on the S22 and got around 70 miles. That is actually a bit more range at that speed than an 84v 18XL, and it is about 15 or 16lbs heavier than the 18XL. AND is 126v system but also has about 650wh more battery. The point is that it is a similar situation. I would bet that low 60's in miles is a pretty normal range at moderate speeds on the V13.

This is honestly the perfect wheel for me. Its tailored for my riding, since I don't cruise or really have the space to cruise that fast for long periods of time. Plus since I'm not exactly a young speed demon anymore, 50-60mi is maxing me out for a single day of riding. I know Ian has always had significantly lower mileage on every wheel than any other reviewer partly because he really does know how to max a wheel out, his weight, and the cold temps he rides in. Keep in mind this is probably the absolute worst mileage you could ever possibly get. I've always complained about how expensive the wheels have gotten but honestly I feel Inmotion wheels especially this V13 are more than worth the price considering the competition. I would rather pay this than half the price for the Begode wheels. The v13 and v11 are my perfect combo. I don't need anything else! Can't wait to see what you think after you tune the suspension for you Ian.

Excellent video! And no shame, Andy did much better than myself, a very proficient RS rider, when I got my Master Pro, which was two times heavier than I was used to, first few days I had to hold to a pole to be able to get on it 😆 - now after about a month of riding it, I won't exchange the Master Pro for any other wheel in the world, you get used so fast with the weight and the power (albeit I am convinced that some wheels there in the wild, Sherman S and V13 included, may be better for suspension, maneuverability, water resistance, etc., nothing beats the Master Pro when it comes to long, winding, steep, paved mountain roads, that is where I am riding - and yes, I have a V13 pre-ordered too, main reason is the IP rating, here it rains like hell 5 months per year, and there is no rain the other 7).

Cold temperatures, I imagine, have little impact on the powertrain (battery / electronics / motor) efficiency directly. The batteries and electronics/wiring are probably warming up pretty quick in these machines if you're really pushing it. Instead, it's the cold air increasing air resistance against the EUC and your body, which of course the impact worsens 'exponentially' the faster you go. The flat body against the wind body position on an EUC isn't great for aero to begin with, so the cold air just makes it that much worse. The wet ground is increasing rolling resistance as well. Then of course if it takes more energy to push through the air / water, the powertrain could be losing a bit of extra energy through additional resistive heat losses. Maybe the weather conditions are resulting in ~20-30% range loss on this EUC, which would put this up around 44 - 50 miles of range (with SOC down to 0%) in perfect conditions riding the same way... more if you slow down. The weight of this wheel and the width of the tire isn't helping with range since it needs to use more energy to accelerate and is getting extra resistive heat losses from that. Not sure if lack of dampening could be impacting efficiency. When it comes to EV cars... a lot of the non-air/rolling resistance cold weather energy losses are coming from the active battery temperature management on a much larger battery block and from running the HVAC.

@@sharkyclear Plenty of reasons. This wheel would be stable at any decent pace, great for videoing. This wheel would be great for fast riding while still stable and safe (relatively). This would be a comfortable wheel, with suspension and a larger diameter tyre helping to smooth out shoddy roads/paths. TBH I wouldn't own this as my only wheel, but if I could own any 3 wheels then this would be my bigger wheel because it really does look like being a very good wheel (for a bigger heavier wheel)

Great information! I'v had my deposit on the v-13 for a very long time. The anticipation for some good reviews has been intense. With that said, I am so let down by the Challenger's lack of range. How frustrating to have everything you could want in a big cruiser wheel except the range to actually cruise. Therefor I can't say this is a legitimate cruiser wheel. It's just a big, expensive, beautiful work of art that goes really fast for a few miles. Like buying a Lamborghini that has a moped sized gas stank. WTF? I have the v-11 so I know Inmotion builds their wheels tall and thin. I would have preferred it if Inmotion made the Challenger wider to accommodate for more batteries. I am so frustrated at this situation because I don't believe Inmotion is giving us the amount of battery that we deserve for the price point. I am thrilled about the build quality and safety features, but that should be a given not a luxury for such an expensive, powerful recreational EV. I feel like Inmotion is using their build quality to justify not giving us the range that we are paying for. This is very obvious when you can buy a much older, smaller, lighter, nimble wheel for far less money that goes almost as fast. At the same time you get to enjoy 3,600 watt hours to cruise around all day long. Leaperkim gave us the Veteran Sherman. The first, high quality, built like a brick, high speed, long range cruiser. Not only did we get the build quality, but they gave us the range as well. That was like three years ago! Not to mention, Leaperkim was just a tiny start up company at the time! Yes the Sherman was the most expensive wheel at the time, but we got what we paid for.. SPEED / RANGE!!! Now here we are, almost 2023. Inmotion is the largest of all the EUC companies combined and they give us 3,024 watt hours on the heaviest wheel with a whopping 30 miles range at speed. All for the amazing price of $4,600! Is it just me or is there something wrong with this picture? When you can get a Master Pro with 4,800 watt hours at the same price, doesn't really seem like Inmotion is looking out for its customers after all. At this point I don't like Begodes unsafe build quality at high speeds and I don't like Inmotion ripping us off on battery, so I might go with the Sherman S or just wait till 2024 to see if the other two companies can get their heads screwed on right.

The wheel is not for me. It's excessively heavy and based on some reviews, funzone is when riding stupid fast. It has basically 0 portability, near 0 low speed control and bad range for the riding it wants you to do. But I really appreaciate the safety engineering that has gone into the V13. That should be basically the new standard that everyone should reach (looking at you Begode)

I think rider weight will be more important than height (providing you’re big enough to feel comfortable). You’ll need weight behind you to control any heavy wheel, especially for emergency braking

Cold weather too though which reduces the battery. And it's the range doing plenty of heavy / fast off roading by the sounds of it.

@@heymelon yeah I guess that’s true, I don’t know how much the temperature impacts the range/batteries though I know it does it would be interesting to see a real world comparison in different temperatures, maybe folks in different areas doing the same miles and speed on the same model machines... pretty complicated to arrange. I’ve been looking forward to this wheel and it looks great it’s the adoption of so many safety features that I’ve been so pleased to see.

Its in line with power output and WH’s available. Its not really a ‘surprise’ to me. On my Sherman I can get very low range when pushing it. In reality most will get a lot more range as is normal with our range tests. It wins on build quality, its head and shoulders above pretty much everything out there.

Honestly at this point I'm starting to wonder how much weight a wheel like the V13 can *pull*. Like... put on a bike trailer on the thing, and see if you can pull it, then add weight and continue until it no longer moves! That might be a real special test, though not very useful for most people. Though, obviously, the stupid idea of "what if I put batteries in a trailer, would I be able to ride while I charge , halfway across the country" is certainly something a lot of people are going to ask in their head... but I'm asking it out loud ;)
@CrunchyTire
@CrunchyTire Жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure you can't charge and ride them at the same time, and the charge rate would probably not be enough to sustain your ride AND give you a positive charge.. And more weight decreases the range regardless of what it can technically pull. If you want to ride across country then speed is your worst enemy. A slower long range wheel would be ideal. Even at 25mph steady you could push 100 miles in 4-5 hours. Most people would be done for the day after a ride like that. Thats significant distance. Going 40mph is great until you have to stop and charge multiple times per day. And charging a big battery is slow.
@eslachance
@eslachance Жыл бұрын
@@CrunchyTire I do agree on diminishing returns of battery weight vs range. As for charging on the go, actually, my Nikola+ is perfectly capable of charging while turned on and balancing. I'm not sure about the V13 of course, maybe it can't.

Funny nobody mentions the seat. 3d print one perhaps. Duck tape and a cushin in sixty seconds n ride yaye. Yip its a very impressive wheel. Its hard to believe to grab dirt with hands and say make this into just a single wheel to travel with the power and speed of 20 galloping horses to ballance and carry me to the horrizon and beyond. And anyone would believe it. Be well :):]

I do find it strangely reassuring to see both Andrew and Mike struggling with a bigger machine. It reassures me that I'm not alone in trying to ride the Master. With the exception of starting off, I am actually doing better than that, (not better than you obviously - I wish). My initial impression of the Master was actually a positive one, as opposed to Mike with the V13. Actually my only real problem with the Master has been the footplate height when starting off. Marty describes the Sherman-S as top heavy, it looks to me, that might apply to the V13 as well. Not saying that both of these wheels are not good wheels - quite the contrary. Looks like I'm going to get 50 miles out of the Master, I'm not able to pin it as you would say, not willing either :-) And the V13? - build quality, weather resistance, I'm jealous; the weight, the price, not so much. Questions - no you covered what I was still curious about, I guess I would like to know what Andrew in particular thought after say 50 miles, Mike no I don't think he was that impressed :-) The reason is like me, people are are buying these things when maybe they should be looking at something a little more conservative in respect to their skills (I'm totally unrepentant). Great video as ever, your perspective is always a little different from others we see doing these reviews - which is a good thing.

Constructive comments for your kind consideration: 1)The dip on the headlights could be done automatically and electrically. The main headlights go off when a photodiode detects a car's headlights and the dip lights stay on. 2) Please put the regenerative efficiency in the specs. (We want to know how well it can negotiate the hills and valleys.) Ideally, at 100% efficiency, relief should make no difference to the range, assuming that the destination elevation is the same as the starting point. 3) Please offer us the motor power to battery joule ratio so that we can compare wheels. I have estimated that the dimensionless value to be about 0.6 to 0.7. Any extreme values require further thought. 4) Please consider a rear view closed-circuit camera. Obviously the top real estate would need to be increased. 5) Please tell us if super-capacitors are between the motor and the battery. Those surges in braking energies have to go somewhere. You don't want them wondering around the motherboard. (Energy cannot be created *nor destroyed* , and all that.)
