Here are three easy, quick release knots that are good to keep in your back pocket for a rainy day! For some it's as simple as adding a bite to a standard knot, and for others it's a bit more work.
In this video you'll find the Highwayman's Hitch, Shred Bend with a bight, and the Riverman's Bend.
Let me know below what kind of knots you would like to see next, or just what kind of videos in general.

Excellent video. Thank you! Got an extra tip though: If you wanna enhance the highway man’s hitch - Right after you pull up your second bite, pass the working end around the standing end, and then pull up the the third bite to complete the knot. Adds some extra security

Most excellent. In these parts we secure a line from ourselves to our water craft so as not to lose the craft downriver in case one is thrown out of one's kayak. I like that riverman's knot. Looks very secure, yet would unload instantly in an emergency. Much appreciated kind sir.

I use all these at one time or another. Highway is probably the one I use most. Good post my friend.

I like that the highwayman doesnt have a tail that whips around when you release, a feature that's welcome with a heavily tensioned line.

I use a double sheet bend and a rivermans knot when rigging a lot. They are really simple strong and self locking.

I found it weird that the Riverman's bend isn't in more of the modern knot tying books. I found the Riverman's Bend in a vintage sailing manual. Still works today!

I prefer to use a slipped Zeppelin hitch or a quick hitch. For tying to a spar I always use a slipped ground line hitch.

Question: is this the knot used by Those who Repelle alot to retrieve there ropes ! I often wondered how when they repelled down and they have to continue on do they get there ropes back ?
@innerbarkoutdoors
@innerbarkoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Don't try this for climbing and repelling. People die from that all the time. Do yourself a favor and buy a longer rope. It will suck having to carry it, but it sucks more when you bounce off the ground. When I rapel, I use the same rope doubled up(going around an anchor point/system). When at the bottom of the pitch you pull on one end and the rope falls down.

I don't like the highwaymans hitch, because if the diameter of the object is way larger than the rope, it could capsize, even with "more secure" versions.

Highwayman hitch is NOT secure still it may be released after twitching. Zhukov's hitch is much more secure

Sorry but I think your sheet bends are incorrect - the working end is on the wrong side. When you tie a sheet bend, both working ends need to exit the knot on the same side (even if one of them is slipped)
