Hugo is one of the unsung heroes of KZfaq. If you've reached the intermediate plateau with your French, able to communicate at a decent level but unable to make further progress, still struggling to watch films without subtitles for example, this is the resource you've been looking for. Thank you Hugo for making all this fantastic content available for free!

There is no reason to speak at a faster pace, unless you have a time constraint, or have a need to interject, or want to show off how fast you can speak. When you speak slower, not super slow, you will sound more confident, wiser and more intelligent! Sometimes the speed is actually covering up a weakness....

This is so helpful. For me, I noticed it's easier when I stop trying to translate in my head and just listen closely. I don't get lost as easily this way. Maybe I don't get every word but of course I can tell when I'm understanding and when I'm not. My point is, don't try too hard and you will be suprised that it helps.

I've tryharded so much during this quarentine, I studied for at least 8hs a day - every single day - and i'm still doing it. Most of the time, like 70% or more, I was headed to listening (Krashen's method). It's working reaaally great! I'm now in a mix of proudness and happiness right after this video. I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to you, Hugo, for making this excellent podcast! I must say, as listening materials for beginners and intermediate learners, these episodes are just impeccable. The length of each episode is appropriate - not too short in a way that contains too little information. The words are uttered in a moderate speed and a clear fashion. And the intermittent jingles - they are just perfect indicators of the change of ideas/topics and jazz up the listening experience. Keep up the good work! My learning of French counts on you! :D

I am thrilled to have found this site. when i listened to lesson 1, i understood many of the words but could not easily string it together to understand the entire context easily, the second time, i listened as i read it and was overwhelmed with how i could understand about 85% of the context. I have always been frustrated going from beginner french to all other intermediate french podcasts as the jump was too big. This podcast is the perfect next step for me. I am very good at memorizing words and grammar rules so that i read and speak far better than I can comprehend. Now finally i have something that allows my brain to listen and understand so that my listening comprehension can improve. I am simply thrilled.

Merci beaucoup!

Excellent podcast. I would say "THE BEST". I was going through the messages written and I was in agreement with them that your voice is clear and speed is perfecr and topics are wonderful. You should be very proud for makeing the learners life better. I can really understand almost all of your words whereas I struggle with other podcasts or language lessions. Thanks a lot!!

I agree with you Frédéric, Jez, 1307 and Luna, same happens to me everytime I hear this man, I started listening him almost a month ago but today I am able to understand him almost 100%, besides I understand his point since I have already viewed the Stephen Kraschen video on acquiring a language, I watch this video three times and took notes and it's almost one hour long but it's worth every second, Bonjour!

sub to unus annus Just listen as much as you can and watch videos that have accurate subtitles and slow them down. Read as you listen, you don't necessarily need to understand everything but you do need to get your brain accustomed to the sounds of the language and have it subconsciously match up the spelling with what it's hearing. Everyone starts somewhere, good luck!
