Innovation in Cyprus | 2 YORKS | British Army

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment have been testing equipment in Cyprus that could shape the way the Army will fight in the future.
A new communication system, unmanned aerial systems, and robotic vehicles are all part of an experimentation programme being carried out by the battalion.

My biggest regret is the fact I screwed up my life early in my late teens, because of an adverse reaction to mum and dad dying when iwas a child, went off the rails a lot, had to bring myself back with the help of some family members that are now sadly gone too. I'm dying to get to Ukraine, no kids, no wife, I need to be there, to do this, I want to fight and always have even when living homeless for 6yrs, always thanked a serving personnel when I saw them. I was born for fighting, with a cool head, with common sense smarts, and an ability to see more than most through being unbelievably observant, a super identifier, never forget a face, even with prosthetics over their features, quick to see advantages, and knowing when to retreat to regroup ready for another attack. Remember defending is far easier than attacking. Keep up with the amazing works lads/ladies, and thank you all for your service to queen country and nation. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

@@ZzzzzzzyiBritish and Commonwealth citizens, ik you said asian so if you're from India for example you can join, but Japanese citizens would need to get British citizenship first

I left the British army in 2014 and have all but distanced my self from that time. But it's crazy to see how more advance the military is now and how warfare is changing and starting to utilise technology more.

@@Zzzzzzzyi im in the ar. Y let me ask some people and I will try and get back to you I'll ask some of the lads I think you just move to the Country and live there for 4, years and then you get full citizenship

The A1 was bad but HK fixed a lot of problems. I left before the A3 entered.

Ex Green Howard here 87-93. I'm glad my time in the forces was before all this tech. Eyes forward, not on some screen. Fun fact, i was in the first wave of recruits to train with the then new SA-80, when i got to my regiment, i was teaching the Corporals how to use it.

I'm not a soldier myself nor have I served but from seeing whats happening Ukraine and how much of an edge having tec has on the Ukrainian side I kinda think the "eyes on a screen" is kinda the wrong mindset to have in an ever changing more mobile kind of warfare. I do think its important for the British military to push for more advancement that improve their impact on the battlefield, the drones definitely do that.....not so sure about the other vehicle they were showing though.

Is the DSA tech a nightmare in the sun?... just like a phone screen. I'm guessing it's not and hope its a sharp image. Big risk running about looking for shaded area just so you can see the screen.

Having watched footage from Ukraine, I have to wonder how, shall we say, a non NATO army, would cope when up against the level of technology shown here. On a different note, (7:17) I'm not sure about Bradford being the capital of Yorkshire!

The City of York has been the 'capital' city of Yorkshire since Roman times (71AD), It was the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Deira, Northumbria and Jórvík. It is thought that there has been a settlement there since 7000BC. Name means Place of the Yew tree. It is the seat of the Archbishop of York, being the Anglican capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England. Richard the 3rd was the last king of England from the House of York, and the last English king to die in battle. In recent times York has also hosted the HQ of Northern Command. The Yorkshire Regiment has very ancient and proud roots! All this makes it the capital of the North of England, and which is why the County is named after it. It's also (surprise, surprise!) my home town!

Who is the identified "enemy" in Cyprus? Hasn't it been largely peaceful since what happened in 1974? Of course the buffer zone needs to be monitored but I just don't see who or what poses any real threat to bases in Akrotiri, Dekhalia or Nicosia.

What happens if the enemy gets hold of the DSA? If it shows where the friendly troops are it can be dangerous if the enemy get hold of it.

I would guess that there's some way of turning off access remotely if a DSA is suspected of being compromised

@@steve-iw2bg again there's probably a system to mitigate that, this is military tech these things will have been thought about. One of the questions military R and D ask is "What happens if the enemy get their hands on this"

I should imagine the type of enemies we will potentially face wouldn't have the intelligence to switch it on let alone put passwords in etc, I should imagine they can be purged anyway!

Very good. But WHEN are you going to officially recognise 2 Yorks for their service in Op Pitting last year in Kabul? WHY has there been such reluctance to award humanitarian medals? These boys worked their b0ll0cks off in the most horrific situations only to receive a few crates of beer on their return to Cyprus. It’s no wonder they are leaving in droves.

Fine by me, quite happy to take them away from the island. Much more useful in Eastern Europe with our allies. Watch as the economy in the surrounding areas collapse, as you slowly watch the Turks trot over the mountains, wonder if they were EOKA supporters? Hmmm. I mean that is if the Russian underworld don't turn your micros isos into there personal whore house!
