Huh...I always thought he was talking about how she had taught him to be patient and soft and "to let things go", but Philip forgot it all in wanting to be like his dad, which ultimately lead to his death... Add to that the fact that "piano" means "to play softly" in a musical context, so when Eliza says "I taught you piano" it makes it all the more heartbreaking.

Wait For It is probably my favorite song, and I reacted about the same way as you did (except A LOT more hyped), and Alexander Hamilton is my second fave, and Yorktown is my third ( *sob* IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!)

I'm from Poland and I don't know English that well, that I could understand the musical's plot just from hearing. But when I was listening to it for the first time I cried from "Burn" till the end. Especially when "It's Quiet Uptown" and two last songs came out. And then a read what is this whole thing about. After that I couldn't even listen to the first notes of "It's Quiet Uptown" without crying. It was so sad and heart breaking. It was over a year ago. From that moment I listened to Hamilton hundreds of times and still the only thing I can do after Hamilton's ending is sitting, crying and listening to it again and again.
