Welcome to another Race Car Feature on this channel.
A few weeks ago I was at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park for the Racing Season Finale.
In the last video from Day 1, I featured the all-new 1969 Mustang driven by Paul Clarke in the Central Muscle Cars Racing Series.
On Day 2 we witness the incredible feats of this racing-oriented, totally hardcore C5 Corvette with mad aero built at Brennan Motorsport and driven by Grant Brennan, here competing in the "Super V8" Racing Series and together with two 2 classes, "TA2 NZ" & "V8 Utes".
This season has being difficult for the Brennan Team, with a few gremlins to sort out between Rounds. Today we find the perfect conditions to see and hear the full potential of this incredible race car. Enjoy this special feature with Race 1 and Race 2, both starting on a Rolling Start basis.
Brennan Motorsport wishes to thank:
Simon Mcbeth from UK
Neil from Geartronics UK
BBS - Germany
BMRS - USA
Goodyear USA
Motec Australia
and all the fans & supporters throughout the years

it was clear early he was oversteering and he wasn't smooth on the gas pedal (jerking it) cause he didn't trust the tires yet. At the checkered flag overtaking the P2 who didn't give space...I don't know the rules I was worried Brennan would get penalized for stepping on the pits lines.

I used to have a Nissan R32 GTR street car with a racing engine in it. It's great stuff of course until it comes to drivability in traffic and maintenance. You can't have everything and there's always a compromise to be had, in this case I'd rather have a usable cammed LS or similar in a street Z06 and then a Vette racecar for track use only. Cause when you have disposable income you start to enjoying things separately

Really great onboard footage ❤️🙏 But me being NOT a race car driver I do have a probably „dumb“ question: Why is Grant kind of „pumping the brakes“? 🤷🏻‍♂️ (At least it looks like it to me 🥴) And is there a special reason why he chose to have the up- and down-shifts on the same pedal? (Which I think is not bad at all, tbh I think that‘s really smart 👍) Thanks for the great video, I really appreciate it and all the best from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp 👋 EDIT: And I do apologize in advance for my nonexistent English „skills“ 🫣🥴
@racecars.universe
@racecars.universe Ай бұрын
Hey Philipp, you're a legend, thanks for your comment. 1) pumping the brakes is quite common in racing. Sometimes a pad pushes the brake pistons back enough so that when you go braking it takes longer distance to push the pedal. 2) up and down shifts on the same paddle shifter is inspired to karts, a very common feature on those vehicles.

@@racecars.universe to get to 10k rpm it'll have to be destroked to reduce rotational mass so if it's a 5.9 now it had to be bigger to be destroked. It could have been a 6.0 ls2 but I'm not sure the capacity to rpm would match after the destroke. They rev to 7k from factory so for a v8 LS/LT engines are very high revving, but 10k is nothing short of balls to the wall.

@@R6AAO the top end is the hardest part of a 10k LS platform. I was speaking to TSP in person last year about a 9k~ road racing engine for my S2000 and they were already a bit wary of such high RPM use. 10K is basically full solid lifter nascar build. edit: just saw a shot of the block. Pretty sure it's not a stock LS based block, looks like a DART or similar.

@@R6AAO An LS3 would not need to be destroked for 10k rpm, it would just need a good lightweight rotating assembly. Stock rods and pistons would not handle it. I know a guy who's turning an LS7 to 9000 rpm, and that has a 4" stroke vs the LS3's 3.622 stroke. Where it gets difficult is the valvetrain. Gotta spend big bucks to have a stable valvetrain at 10K rpm.

@racecars.universe
@racecars.universe Ай бұрын
V8 Supercars is a purely Australian championship that started back in the 70s, whereas this Super V8 series is NZ based and seems to be a bit more recent than that. V8 supercars also has purely just 4 door sedans from production models while this NZ Super V8 is more open to other formats / models / builds

@@racecars.universe ohh okay interesting thank you. I have one more question if you don’t mind, which one is faster between super v8 and v8 supercars?? because this corvette having 857hp and 10000rpm is pretty crazy 🤯 and has a lot of aero with the splitter, canards and diffuser etc..i would imagine the super v8 car would be faster, well this corvette forsure.
@racecars.universe
@racecars.universe Ай бұрын
I wouldn't be too sure of that actually, V8 Supercars have larger budgets and the backing of OEM constructors. That allows for extremely fine tuning and better parts e.g. magnesium/titanium and alloys. Not to mention the Team behind it too. I'd say V8 Supercars are tougher and perhaps faster but the Brennan C5 Corvette defends itself pretty fairly.

The guy in the yellow corvette has a better line than you did. High in low out, that first corner after the finish line you stayed more in the middle and he hugged the wall on his driver side and ran it in harder to that corner. Races are won in the corners, nice ride.

For the record - a selector bush for the 2 lower gears wasnt allowing the downshift - the bush had become dislodged and was acting as a wedge - would go up gear no problem but down it was wedging - slight design fault that we have remedied. Very observant of you though
