I had the pleasure of checking out Jonathan's theater this past May and it is truly amazing! Jonathan and I did some measurements and found that the difference in loudness between the nearest and farthest seat from the side CBT's was only about 1 ~ 2 dB. This proves that the CBT array works perfectly to provide uniform sound across the seating row. I had been going back and forth on whether to build CBT's for my side surrounds or just go with a more conventional 2 or 3-way design. Jonathan's theater convinced me the CBT is definitely the way to go for the sides. I might even end up going with CBT for Atmos and of course my mains and center are already CBT. Oh and Jonathan, the word you were looking for is, "Shading". That's the incremental attenuation as you move along toward the bottom end of the array.

Thanks for posting. This is a cool use of CBT. Regarding decay rate of 3dB per doubling of distance, -3dB is only valid within the range of "critical distance", a frequency dependent relation between acoustic wavelength & array length, & that is frequency dependent. At greater than critical distance, decay follows the traditional inverse square law And related to that array length, Keele proposed utilizing a ground plane install that effectively doubles the length so, installing on the ceiling might be a good thing, if possible.

I have allways thought that the same speaker in every location makes the most sense!

That's def my dream home theater haha. If only I had a basement like that. Did he soundproof it? My only criticism of the video is you guys need better mics. It's shown up in other videos too. I realize there were a lot of people in the room and you weren't near him talking, but you couldn't hear some stuff. Even still, must been awesome!

Put velvet cloth on top of the subs so there’s no reflections from the projector. That irks me.

Oddly… it seems rather one dimensional from an audio quality pov. Like the highs are some how all sizzle and not enough transparency or 3D quality. Of course the recording but still it’s like a uniform presentation. Like I want a different quality DAC, maybe the new dCS Apex range. Anyway this seems to be a power discussion rather than an audio quality or subtlety discussion. I guess it’s all about the immersive experience. KRIX makes a similar experience possible with their behind screen wall of sound. This is just too forward for my taste. I’ll try to listen again with IEM’s. The recording also can’t handle the SPL. Reminds me of class d amps of recent times. Too linear… YMMV and mine might when I try IEM’s too.
