INSANE MASSIVE REDFISH FISHING OFF THE BEACH ON LIGHT TACKLE

Beach fishing is our favorite way to catch redfish and speckled trout but today we got into some massive redfish (bull redfish) in the surf just right on the beach. And even better we were catching them on lighter action tackle using artificial bait instead of live bait or fresh cut bait! This was definitely an all time fishing adventure!

I just went to OBX on the 18th to 21st of april and fished at night next to nags head pier. No day bite bc water is so cold but I slayed em. Biggest trout was 24 inch and alot of overslot drum from the surf with jigs! Whooo what a great time! Love these beach videos. The drums we were catching fought just as hard. Almost couldn't get them in and broke off a few for sure. Caught 9 BIG trout in 3 nights.

Nice!! ... So when you're throwing soft plastics from the surf do you just throw in some random spot or what? I've always wondered how you know where to cast...? I'm a freshwater neighborhood pond guy and go for bass so I don't really know a lot about salt water

If you're beach fishing you typically want to look for spots with deeper water, especially trenches or holes the run through a sandbar. Those act as a "highway" for the fish. You _can_ try fishing a random spot, but it's highly unlikely you'll catch anything, especially not a big redfish like this. Most people that surf fish are using long rods with 2-4 Oz sinkers, and live or cut bait. In order to catch fish like these guys are with normal sized rods and artificial lures, you've gotta be really good at reading the beach. Weather patterns, tides, surf conditions, and time of day are all major factors you have to consider.

Do you guys recommend to do this early in the mornings? What tide and conditions would you say are the best, I am a college student in Wilmington, NC and I was wondering if it’s worth doing this type of fishing on Writsville Beach, I know y’all are familiar with the area!! Thank you!

YES! There are Drum and Speckled all over down there. Surf. Look for the bait balls and diving birds. Also The intracoastal docks and pier pilings, etc. Backside shell island on tide change. I went to school there. Spanish and king Mak will be in the surf when it gets warmer and then Mahi not far offshore. Tropical fish(Butterfly, Wrasse, etc) down by the jetty if you snorkel. Have fun.
