With most of the new, high tech state of the art roller coasters. The human element is pretty much taken out of it. Pretty much, the only type of error, is going to be either a computer error, or a mechanical one...

I live near Kings Island in Ohio and rode son of beast dozens of times throughout my childhood. It was always rough and even as a teenager it would make my back hurt but we would often go get right back in line because it was such a wild rush. Fun fact: My dad is actually one of the people who helped build the Son of Beast when it went up and wrote my name in sharpie on one of the slabs of wood! Also just to clarify the Verrückt incident did not just 'launch" the boy, the raft was launched, causing the boys head to hit one of the pole rings, decapiting him instantly. The injuries the two women suffered were from the boys head hitting them afterward and the saddest part is that the boys body then slid down the slide where his parents and younger siblings were waiting for him 😢 It was so much more tragic than him being thrown from his seat. Later videos showed the creator of the ride running tests and the raft flew up, just like it did when the boy died, and the creator laughs and says "its good enough for him" amd then they placed the net and opened the ride to the public. 😔

I remember Action Park. Yup, it is just as dangerous as described but SO MUCH FUN! The one ride not mentioned was the alpine sled track. Tiny plastic toboggans on a concave concrete track (actually more of a curved drainage ditch, actually) that went down the mountain. Totally rider controlled by a leaver brake and nothing but a few inches of lip to keep you in the trail grove. Usually. Get going fast enough and you could launch your sled off the track an into the hay bales on the tight turns. I know it was possible because I did exactly that. Several times. You just picked up the sled, walked back tot he track, waited for the next kamikaze to fly by and drop the sled back in track to keep going. The rest of the water based rides were a bit safer, but not much. The river raft mentioned in the video really did have one section called "The Toilet Bowl" After bumping your way down the ride, you ended up on a large basin and, like the turd that won't flush after salisbury steak night, you circled the drain until you went in and through another dark and curving pipe to end up popping out at a sudden drop and dropping 15 or so feet in to the final pool. It was not uncommon to have riders fall, or jump, out of the rafts and slide the rest of the way Staff really did not care about the safety of the rides or riders doing unsafe things, but would clean up and bandage any injuries with care and attention. It was not uncommon for many of the staff to be volunteer fire fighters and EMT's in the local community. (That area did not have any paid fire departments at the time.) I guess working at the park did help keep the skills sharp for those late night car wrecks and other trauma calls. During the winter the park was a ski resort, of sorts. Not great trail conditions, short runs, and lousy grooming, but it was cheap. I think an annual pass was about the same price as a weekend pass to Whistler, Vail, or Breckenridge. And the annual pass was good for the whole year at both VV and GG parks.

I rode an alpine sled track in Colorado & it had the same exact problems. If you went too fast, you'd simply fly off the track. My young brother did exactly that. He tore up his skin due to sliding on the concrete, flew off the track & needed stitches.

My sister and i rode down one of those several times and had a blast... then we went down for the 4th time. I was ahead, sis went next. There was a small rock on the track and with horrific luck, it got jammed under sisters brake lever. She couldnt slow down. She was hurtling down crazy fast and when she reached the bottom, her sled SLAMMED into mine... but it still had too much momentum, so it flipped violently into the air. Think about the shape of the carts. When it flipped overhead, it was spinning forward... so the brake handle SMASHED into her tailbone. It wasnt broken (thank goodness. That much speed, weight, and force...) but the bone was REALLY badly bruised. She couldnt sit down or lie on her back until it healed. Im not sure how it went over me without hitting me too, but my poor sister. Badly bruised coccyx and minor concussion, plus a solid whack to the guy ahead of mes arm. The worst bit was that we were on our way home after a holiday, and that meant many hours of sitting in the car.

Our folks took me and my friend I grew up with to action park all the time! It really had a feeling that the rides were designed by kids our age (about 11). I remember the rope swing over the lake with no safety padding where you stood on a platform about 30 feet above a lake shore, held on to a trapeze handle and jumped. There were no straps or harnesses and when you started your jump you were over the ground. Then (my favorite) the bumper boats where people from age 10 to 70 all got into individual innertube boats in a little pond and smashed into each other, boat engines racing and smoking. Then of course the giant water slides which this video touches on. Things were different back in the 80s. I still miss it!

Speaking of sore, I sometimes get a sore back end from biking for long periods of time. Say maybe 1-2 hours at a time. I've hilariously dubbed it as "biker's butt", easily treated with a relaxing, steaming hot Epsom salt bath. At least, that's what I did whenever the issue arose, and within the hour, I felt a lot better. No more pain, sitting on my rear end, LOL! Thank goodness for Epsom salt, eh?

Back in the 60s, we rode the world's tallest roller-coaster in Crystal Beach, Ontario Canada. It was fabulous by Lake Erie and it seemed as if we were riding over the Lake. Speeding through the air,it was thrilling and magical. Sadly due to safety reasons, the roller-coaster was reduced in size Shortly thereafter, the race ro have the highest coaster began in earnest with loopholes around the safety, many theme parks built one after one after one.. I also has a neighbour who was horribly injured at one of Disney's water slides. He fortunately had insurance because Disney tried to cover it up.That's a story or another time if you want. Have a lovely day.

My oldest two kids rode Verruckt the weekend before the fatal crash. My middle son weighed 120 lbs and he commented how insane the ride was. His restraint didn't secure him to the ride and the whole decent he was airborne. He 'crashed' back down into his seat just before the ride started the uphill portion. Said he would have never rode it if he knew it was that scary.

Males could literally have their testicles damaged in a situation like that. I've heard about it happening to BMX Bike racers from bouncing up and down on the seat on rough terrain. I can't believe the people that invent these thrill rides don't worry more about lawsuits. They must figure they're going to make so much money off them, they figure they can afford it. I don't assume something is safe just because they say it is, people still need to use good judgement, and if it looks humanly impossible, it just might be. Maybe a lot of folks are just getting lucky that they don't get hurt.

Me and my wife went on Twin Dragons in 2012 when it was part of PotterLand. There was hardly any queue so we went on both dragons one after another. Got to say that it was one of the best cosaters I have ever been on and the only one I have been on with two intertwining tracks. Shame it's gone. I also went on Smiler just after it re-opened after the terrible accident happened. Again it was an amazing coaster and does indeed leave you with a big grin on your face. Long ride too, lasted ages.

In launch would have been a more spectacular accident but right there on the ground snapping cables can take your head off your shoulders. So many people have been decapitated attempting to hook spring cables on garage doors, others have lost limbs and the tension on those cables is nothing in comparison to the ones on that ride. If that cables had snapped when he was getting in the ride and struck him, it would have killed him instantly right there in front of his parents.

I was working at Cedar Point in 1990 when the Iron Dragon didn't stop swinging before it pulled into the depot and ran into the wall. An older gentleman was with his son or grandson if I remember correctly. The kids was banged up, but the man had some significant leg injuries. Roller coasters getting hit by lightning is also scary as hell! The Corkscrew got hit one day as a storm was rolling in, and shut down every ride in the park for a while. We rode in the second seat of the first car the next day, and at the top of the big initial drop, the car just stopped as we were hanging over the top of the hill. We sat up there for about 10 minutes. My friend and I who worked there were telling the two girls ahead of us stories about the park, when we mentioned that lightening hit that very spot the day before. One girl said, "Wait, WHAT??" No kidding, at that moment the ride started again and we dropped. I've never heard two girls scream so loud during the entire coaster. Good times. 🤣

The attendant girl was going to every person making sure all seat belts were buckled, she would pull on it & when she got to my daughter she pulled on it & it opened right up! My heart felt like it dropped into my stomach. I was so shocked because I thought I had snapped it closed. The young lady buckled it & If I remember correctly she then pulled down the bar over her. Shortly after that the ride took off. Afterwards, I was still so shocked by that, I never took them on a roller coaster again. Even to this day I have not been on a roller coaster. Thank God they had an attendant going to each person making sure that they were properly buckled in.

A lot of rides will pop right back open if you do it yourself. . Attendants are trained to check every single one themselves for that reason, it’s to make sure 100% it is secured the way it is supposed to and by who it is supposed too. Still extremely scary to think of you get that one attendant that doesn’t double check and it’s not secure the right way it could be devastating.

I went the other week but didnt manage to go on it due to bad weather there. They’ve done loads of testing on it and they do many tests during the day to maintain safety. I was pissed, but as the ride came higher. When it was about to go down, it suddenly stopped. That person looked like he saw his life flashing trought his eyes. So I went to a different ride, a car ride. When I came back, everyone were still on the ride. Luckily, no one was injured. Execpt of worrying, I laugh, since I love dramatic/horrible things and since I laugh loudly when people get hurts. My mom didn't like me laughing because people were scared for there lives😅

I live in Orlando and rode that coaster at Universal several times. Ice was a bit more chill while Fire was more intense. Both were incredible though, and at the speeds they travelled, that loop seemed like you would were really about to die. It was awesome!

I had the chance to serve as an EMT at a local Six Flags and was appalled at (a) the overall lack of training, (b) the insanity of some of the rides - I mean, really, a ride that is basically a huge bungee cord that flings you up and down, back and forth? Yeah - like we'll do anything for you at the end of THAT arc should it break.... and (c) the overall lack of safety in some of the rides. Needless to say when I had the chance to get out, I did and would never serve at one again. Like the original poster, our "training" was basically following people around who had been there longer and listening to them tell us what to do if something went wrong. No thanks.

All in all I did have one of the best times of my life as a child then. Shout out to my big brother Paul W…Thank You- Go Bills!!!

I went to action park in 88 I think. I was seven and at that age I was well aware that it wasn’t safe. Nobody in my family got hurt but I did have several classmates who returned from vacation battered and bruised. There were a few times I was legitimately terrified for my life.

I’ve been to ACTION PARK when I was younger. Most of their “rides” were dangerous, but the one I got hurt on was a ride that has carts you sat in, and were basically on a cement luge riding down a mountain. The pull brake never worked and twice around a twist I was thrown off, onto rocks. Bad scrapes and cuts. I went to the first aid tent and they sprayed this red shit on my wounds that hurt worse than the cuts themselves. Man that place was fun, but dangerous. I have many stories from there.

I have a story even though it’s not rides, it’s something else. Me and my friend wanted to go to the trampoline park that just opened and my mother and brothers were coming too we were bouncing around and I did a flip and then 5 minutes later I felt dizzy my head hurt and 1 and a half hours later we went home and I was violently throwing up all over the place so my mum took me to the hospital and I found out I had a concussion. Worse things happened there but no deaths. Someone broke their leg and their bone was sticking out.

heres a story about me almost geting really injured on a ride i dont know all the details but it was a 2 set but the lap bar was not separate so when me and my dad got on first i was ok and secure but then the ups and downs and fast turns the bar got loss and i almost kept falls out the only reason I'm alive right now is because my dad held me tight and i started geting my feet up and i had one down and one up pushing my self from the other side so i had grip but one turn i sliped out and my dad grabs my legs so they wont get hit by the railings and i slide my way back up at the end the operators asked if i was okay i said "I'm fine but the safety on the ride is horrible i could have died thanks to YOU" and my word got out so they shut the ride down and now its a 2 seater but the lap bar is separate and the rides back up :)

I did not call Action Park the name you said. I called it "TRACTION PARK". It seemed that everyday someone was hauled away in and ambulance with injuries ranging from head injuries to broken bones to being electrocuted (Yes it say's electrocuted). That last one makes a water ride way more thrilling. The park had so many people transported by ambulance that the park owner bought several ambulances so the local town had enough ambulances if needed. I loved this place. Went there two or three times a year.

About 30 yrs ago me and my two yr old son went to a fair and rode a “kiddie ride”.This supposed childs ride spun us around so fast that he actually was flung from his restraint and I had to hold on to my son with every ounce of my strength to keep him from being slung out of the ride.I have no idea how I was able to hold on to him so tight for the entire time of the ride but I was terrified.I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even exit the ride alone when it finally stopped.

Before you got on this "kiddie ride", and you were standing in line, did you not watch what It was like and what was involved? At the intensity you described, why would you ever take a two year old on something like that where they are being whipped around? It seems like that would be an easy call to make for a toddler since their neck muscles and tiny developing body are so fragile. Two years old is just WAY too young for a majority of rides anywhere. Seems like the only ride that would be safe for a child so young would be something like a slow train ride or maybe a ferris wheel. I'm sorry, but your story is just really shocking since it involved a 2 year old and doesn't paint your own decision-making in the best of light.
